I broke one of those spring shackle bolts on my '79 K20 once. I was hauling a tractor home in the dark. Pulled up to a stop sign and heard a pop. Got out and looked with a flashlight but couldn't find anything in the dark. Drove the rest of the way home (10 miles) very gently. Pulled in the yard and shut her down. Came out the next morning and looked again but still missed that broken bolt. The spring was still in it's proper position with both broken pieces of bolt in place so that camouflaged the problem. Had to lock the front end in to get the trailer parked and the front axle tried to walk out from under the truck. I knew what was broke then. Ever since I keep an extra bolt in the toolbox. The joys of driving 40+ year old trucks.

"Be safe out there!"???? How about you being safe around that Hi Lift jack?! Those things can kill in an instant! I grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota with one of those. It was the Handyman brand. Going down it would sometimes self ratchet down and sling the handle out. If jacking at an angle like you were doing, it would often slip and whatever we had jacked up would crash down. Usually it was the last click that did it. Dad taught me a healthy respect for that jack! "Never get under anything without blocking it up! NEVER trust that jack!"
