I broke one of those spring shackle bolts on my '79 K20 once. I was hauling a tractor home in the dark. Pulled up to a stop sign and heard a pop. Got out and looked with a flashlight but couldn't find anything in the dark. Drove the rest of the way home (10 miles) very gently. Pulled in the yard and shut her down. Came out the next morning and looked again but still missed that broken bolt. The spring was still in it's proper position with both broken pieces of bolt in place so that camouflaged the problem. Had to lock the front end in to get the trailer parked and the front axle tried to walk out from under the truck. I knew what was broke then. Ever since I keep an extra bolt in the toolbox. The joys of driving 40+ year old trucks.
If you could have backed up and gotten the front of the truck close to the large tree next to the Jeep holding the wrecker you might have been able to use the winch to lift the front of the wrecker.
Looks to be time for anti tramp bars on the front. If it has broken the U bolts twice and done a spring eye bolt it is bound to pull the ends off the main leaves.
