Person with a Channel except I wouldn’t call deaf people “deafs” in my experience deaf people prefer being referred to as either deaf, hearing impaired or hard of hearing (not trying to sound preachy, just thought I’d mention it :)
I know! I mean, you can see if someone's blind because they might be feeling around or they might have a cane or a guide dog (like my dad 😕) but how da hell are you meant to see that someone is deaf at first glance when their implants are hidden?
Don't you think they could mean that deaf people can't hear sirens and other cars giving them signals (honking etc.) and might be concerned about that🤔 that's just a guess obviously and I bet there are people that just say things without thinking about it. As for me it comes from a respectfull and serious question since I wondered about that too
Hearing is very important when you drive. There is a blind spot in the mirrors and most times you realise there is a motorbike or another car by sound. While i get the need to drive, i don't know how responsible it is to do so without hearing.
I was at the shops with my deaf friend and this lady came up to her and went “excuse me...don’t your hands get tired of all that pointless movement? Like wouldn’t it be easier to just speak?” Now, I think she knew she was deaf because it was clear she was doing sign language because she was trying to talk to me (I learnt sign language so we could communicate better) I got really annoyed. I said something like “I think it is clear that she is deaf and this is her way of communicating and if you didn’t know or couldn’t pick up on it..I’m sorry that I’m being so forward but honestly..some respect would be nice..” and she just looked at me and went “why are you even friends? It’s not like she can even speak to you” she then stared at me as I signed to my friend what we should do next and we decided to be petty so we just started signing swearwords to her as she continuously asked us what we were saying...just...everyone deserves respect and you should never tell a deaf person to “just speak” because...that’s not how things work
Ya same i saw a couple i think doing it in English and it looked amazing. So far i know how to sign the alphabet in English sign language and some words
The people staring is quite funny! I am hearing but I'm a sign language student and I can even hear people saying 'look! They're signing!' From behind me when I'm signing on the bus to a friend!!!
livslovelylife OMG I’m hearing and I’ve been learning sign language since I was two (I’m 14 now) ( im honestly not sure if sign of English was my first language lol) but my grandmother is deaf and so when we go out and I sign to her and people call us out it’s really annoying.🙄🙄 I’ll normally sigh to my grandma that people are talking about us signing and she’ll sign to me “ omg look they’re talking wow” and we’ll just laugh and laugh about it
The last one about 'oh i know sign language too' is so frustrating and I'm not deaf.. I'm hearing and I decided to learn sign to help communicate with more people and people always say 'oh hey i know sign language too' and the most they know is a few alphabet letters...
With me it was always 'I know Sign Language too' followed by swearing, most of which wasn't even Sign Language. It used to rile me, and that's as a Hearing signer too.
I can get around basic signs like "hi, whats your name?" & "my name is (and fingerspell)", i can also ask how they are/tell them how i am but that's as far as i can go so they continue to sign and i get confused so i should i stop communicating with them or what? just absolutely not speak to them because i only know the basics?
That was funny. I love it when your mum is in the video. You both look like you have a fun time together making this one! I am actually learning sign language since my hearing is going and my dad is also losing his hearing. I can see how those questions and statements can annoy you when people are ignorant of what deaf people can actually do, just because they are deaf, doesn't exclude them from enjoying the things that hearing people enjoy! The statement, "You don't look like a deaf person" made me laugh. Yeah, how is a deaf person supposed to look? LOL
It’s depends on deaf people. Like me, I’m deaf and use CI. I can hear, speak and use ASL. Ofc I can hear music but couldn’t understand some words from songs.
auditoryneuroscience.com/prosthetics/noise-vocoded-speech & auditoryneuroscience.com/prosthetics/music simulate what you hear when using cochlea implants. It's really difficult to understand speech because they hear way less frequencies than hearing people do.
My sis can hear but cannot speak, often people assume she is deaf when she is using sign. And sometimes say things that they wouldn't havw said if they knew she could hear. Just because someone cannot speak or has a speech disorder doesn't always mean they are deaf. My family and I are fluent in sign and so is my sister, though that is not her Main source of assistance. She often uses a tablet with special software called a talker. But it's nice to know when her talker is dead she can still comunicate. Also she is a swimmer and really good one too but in the water you cannot have a talker .
What puzzled me what deaf people supposed to look like? Some people will go a little deaf later in life. I would not know if they are deaf unless they tell or sign to me. Have a great day.
Im glad I found your channel I love it. I’m interested in learning Spanish, French, Russian and now even sign language. I feel like all these languages lead to more communication among different types of people and opens up so many more people you can communicate with. You’re so cute. Your signing is sooooooo beautiful!!!!! I love watching this video because I’m (actually 😂) learning ASL and this was REALLY helpful on what not to say! Thank you so much!
Ahaha so relatable!! I also get soooo many silly questions when I'm working on tills !! I have cochlear implants and I have to have my hair up due to work uniform policies, so they could see that I'm deaf (if they notice anyway!) and I get a lot of questions like "Oh, you have cochlear implants, so can you hear then?" "Oh, I have hearing aids! Are yours better than hearing aids?" "Wow, your work must be really nice to give you this job!" (I can understand why they'd ask but it's like saying that we as deaf people can't work because we're 'too' deaf... Ah well! Love your mum's participation, she is hilarious! I see where you get your lovely personality from, and it even tempts me to become a RUclipsr too :)
I'm not too sure, but from what I understand there's a wire going through her cochlear and that replaces the slime thing that's in there. That's what my dad explained to me when my brother got one
i have cros aids. cochlear implants do around the same thing. it picks up noises from the side you can’t hear on a crosses it over to the side you can hear on. it’s confusing, hopefully i explained it good enough.
The sound processor on her ear picks up sound, transforms it into a digital code and gives it to a sending device. This device sends the code to the implant, which is under the skin (notice the thin wire running to her hair, that's where the implant is). This device under her hair is connected to her cochlea, and stimulates the hearing nerve, which sends signal to her brain.
You should make a longer video explaining each of these things and why they are rude. I would say the majority of the hearing world probably doesn’t understand why, great opportunity to educate! Loved this video 💕
I used to stare(not alot but I would sometimes) but because I was so interested in the language however I do understand how it must feel if you are speaking to someone and someone just stares. Its always good to learn from the other perspective :)

Love this!!! #smashthestereotypes. Love you Jazzy, and when I first started watching you, I had a hard time processing your speech with sign, I couldn't keep up with understanding what you were saying and watching you sign as well. Captions help!!! I am learning ASL, but I'm not very good at it yet. The more videos I watch of yours, the easier it gets!!
Well to be devils Advocate , hearing people (outside of a school setting) will not normally see deaf people that often, so there will be some suprise and even in school hearing and deaf study seperate. So not understanding the music or driving aspect is normal. Driving is a rather auditory thing for some people who live in big cities where honking is very very very prevelant . Also a lot of hearing people may not have the same sensitivity to sound as deaf ppl do . I could play a song on max volume with earplugs in and very well may not be able to tell u what I'm listening to. Y'all are superhuman like that. In regards to how deaf ppl look, for the deaf that speak (verbally) while signing or for those that can read lips and respond verbally, you hold your tounge in a way that most deaf do and that's a tell. You also observe and walk a different way that can be hard to explain. So I could totally pick a deaf person out of a crowd if they did certain actions , other than signing. So while annoying just try to remeber you may be the first deaf person a hearing person has come into contact with and they will ask you questions that are actually pretty basic in the hearing world, but you all hear them alot because you are a hearing persons first time encounter. They probably aren't trying to be rude but just understand. What my family always taught me was "always awnser the dumb simple questions, because if you don't, people will make up their own awnsers, and that could be worse
Not knowing doesnt make it ok... i think what is a good take away is think thoughtfully before asking. Its not abt you should just know abt deaf culture its abt being mindful when talking to people. Just think abt it a little before asking if shes clearly enjoying the music and in the car abt to drive its clear its something she can do.
You are so inspirational I really like how you don’t care what people say about your voice I really love that you talk in almost all your video ✌️keep it up
I was born with hearing loss, and my parents worked hard on my speech so I can talk well. I have a cochlear implant and a hearing aid. I had two hearing aids but I lost more hearing in an ear so I had to upgrade. Love you videos keep going 💛 ( I also want to learn sign language so this is helping a bit)
Thank you for this video. I've encountered almost all of those situations. I'm saving this video for future use for people who are not deaf but are ignorate about it. I grew up around it as it runs in my family so I try to be patient. I actually had a medical professional cover his mouth on purpose, after being told I read lips, & I was told he asked me if I could hear him now. I'm latent legally deaf so my speech is clear. I still hear some sounds. Because of this I'm called a fake or liar a lot. I really appreciate this video & how tastefully it was done.
I have a grand daughter aged 2 deaf I've been learning for 6 months now and just as all the learning videos start getting a bit daunting and all a bit the same this one pops up and gave me hope knowing I'll learn more. I like how your mum signs while speeks I could learn alot quicker this way. ;=)

Sometimes people genuinely don’t know and you may be the first hard of hearing or deaf person they ever met. It’s sad that’s how people react though, what I’ve been told is to treat everyone, I mean everyone, just how you would a friend, or how you would like to be treated. Being very nice and welcoming is a start ❤️

She talks so cool though like it’s her own secret language!
mommymanda88 it’s sign language, a lot of deaf people use it

I love you so much!!!! You are so sweet and your channel is clean!!!!!! Your whole family is soooo sweet!!!!!!!!!!
"You don't look deaf????"
Deaf can't be seen.
Well... If you are dead, i guess you're kinda deaf too
Yes they can
Blind can’t see
No shit
It's like when people say
"You don't look autistic" to me.
Not all disabilities can be seen
If you don't know British sign language , you can always just turn on the subtitle! Like so everyone can see this!👇
gurl my b-day is in 1 of those days of deaf awareness week! and luv ur vids :3
It’s definitely interesting seeing the difference between ASL and BSL
Thank you for this video. I've encountered almost all of those situations. I'm saving this video for future use for people who are not deaf but are ignorate about it. I grew up around it as it runs in my family so I try to be patient. I actually had a medical professional cover his mouth on purpose, after being told I read lips, & I was told he asked me if I could hear him now. I'm latent legally deaf so my speech is clear. I still hear some sounds. Because of this I'm called a fake or liar a lot. I really appreciate this video & how tastefully it was done.
Your amazing no matter what❤️❤️
Lysm and I’m one of you’re biggest fans
I have a grand daughter aged 2 deaf I've been learning for 6 months now and just as all the learning videos start getting a bit daunting and all a bit the same this one pops up and gave me hope knowing I'll learn more. I like how your mum signs while speeks I could learn alot quicker this way. ;=)
I love this I can totally relate! People can be so rude sometimes!
I love how she attempts to speak knowing that she’s deaf. That’s so amazing. And it’s funny bc I have an aunt who is deaf and her name is also Jasmine.
Love ur videos, I always use captions but I really like ur videos
" oh, i didn't know deaf people could be funny AND smart" ;P
Loved your video! And your humor!
What I can’t stand is when someone tries to talk to me in my worse hearing ear knowing I have a hearing aid on the other side.
Your deaf speaking is SO ASMR! I love this video! 💞💞

M I A H Oh ok
Such an educational video this girl is so inspirational 💜
Sometimes people genuinely don’t know and you may be the first hard of hearing or deaf person they ever met. It’s sad that’s how people react though, what I’ve been told is to treat everyone, I mean everyone, just how you would a friend, or how you would like to be treated.
Being very nice and welcoming is a start ❤️
“You don’t look deaf”
You mean they don’t look like a person who can’t hear? Are you DUmB? 😂❤️
