    Hey, my neighborhood! Saul's and Crepevine don't cause any problem for pedestrians but it's true that the parking spaces removed for their benefit during the pandemic would bring in a good chunk of cash at two dollars an hour. The place that takes up several parking spaces and whose customers tend to mindlessly block the pavement is The Cheese Board BTW. The city's offer to let the restaurants have the space for free if it's open to the public seems pretty generous. Not many people are going to sit at a restaurant table without ordering. Maybe they're worried that the homeless people evicted from People's Park will move into the "parklets."

    Well yeah - they have taken exclusive occupancy of a public space. The public should be compensated for that occupancy.

      not that easy. government forced businesses to occupy public space or shutdown and now forcing them to pay fines/fees without compensation. Businesses can make a case.

      @@DxModel219 Compensation … for fees? Wut? The city gave them something *free* to help them. It wasn’t supposed to be permanent.

      @@NathanielKrefman compensation for outdoor buildouts, furnitures. If you knew the cost of running businesses and not be ticks all day you would’ve already figured it out.

      @@DxModel219that’s like saying they should be compensated for furniture when their lease ends. This was a free lease.

      @@NathanielKrefman not the same. being forced to move outdoors due to a government mandate is different from a lease.

    Just another expense that will be passed on the patrons - it you can even afford to eat out anymore.

      @sneat2028 12 дней назад

      Nope! The expense has nothing to do with operations, they're not necessary.

    I rather see outdoor seating than cars.

    So...the city is penalizing small restaurants for profit?...This is pathetic. Let the restaurants keep their outdoor spaces, we have the weather and space for it.

    • @NathanielKrefman
      @NathanielKrefman 12 дней назад +1

      This isn’t “penalizing.” They got free access to public space to help them stay afloat because we were in a pandemic. The pandemic is over and the free benefit is sunsetting.
