Sandy great video, just be careful with how much K&N oil you put on the filter. Put just the bare minimum to cover it. ( I have found the K&N oil spray bottle works easier) If you put too much oil on the filter it will get sucked into the intake and gum up and ruin you MAP sensor and the air sensor. Look it up online if you don’t believe me. There are plenty of posts on this problem happening.

That's a problem that's been magnified by the M8s, the crankcase ventilation system isn't able to keep up with the added compression and displacement that the M8s produce. I would recommend keeping your breathers connected to a vacuum source as most vehicles on the road do(pcv system), the added benefit to a vacuum source is it helps evacuate crankcase pressure(vacuum in a crankcase can add HP & mileage). I would also recommend the Trask vented trans cover(helps the overworked stock vents), in addition adding the Feuling short sump plug, it can help the oil scavenging by opening up the space where the oil pump has the ability to suck out more oil. These remedies won't 100% cure the oil in the air cleaner but it will help tremendously. Back in the old days the shovels and pans would just puke out a little oil onto the ground via a vent hose(marking it's territory) so the EPA made Harley come up with a more "environmentally friendly" system. Hope this helps. God bless

Sandy said that he has the crankcase ventilation through the Trask cover, and no, you do not need a vacuum source connected to the PCV system. The Positive Crankcase Ventilation system does not need a vacuum because the umbrella valve opens up only if there is positive pressure inside the head not matter if there is a vacuum source or atmosphere pressure at the other end. Sandy has done it right.

Here’s my problem with this mod, I haven’t had any breather mods done yet but will do trask cover soon. The trask cover has a check valve built in, this stops air being sucked into the engine when cooling down. The oem breather system sucks air back into the engine when cooling but it passes through the air filter usually oiled. All air has a certain amount of water in it depending upon the day. With a direct breather to atmosphere, you will get more direct airflow with moisture back into the engine. This is where I see so many people looking at the catch can or pipe work to say “look at all this goop that I saved from my piston getting”. When in fact by this mod you allow more air out during running the engine and more air/water back in when cooling. I sincerely am not a mechanic just over thinking the whole mod. I have seen some people place a check valve into the air filter breather mod which I think is better.

There’s a one way valve in the actual breathers on each cylinder head.

I run the Trask breather, fueling breathers in the heads, fueling air cleaner and cam chest. Works perfect! (Not cheap!). Synthetic oil does not burn! It causes massive carbon buildup on the pistons. Cars and trucks have the same problem. The Trask trans cover vent is by far the best solution. My buddy made his own by drilling the stock cover. It works fine for a lot less money.

The Feuling vented dipstick or Trask transmission vent does help a lot with oil going into the filter. My Street Glide had 1800 miles then I installed the Dipstick and external breather for air cleaner and had a lot of oil inside the intake manifold and oil filter. My brothers Street Bob we installed the Feuling vented dipstick as soon as we bought it and very little oil in the air cleaner and throttle body after 2500 miles. About to install the external breather for it too.

Sandy check out Green filters I’m pretty sure they have black oil for your filter and if you want more air to get in to the motor check there filters. I’m looking at doing the same thing but I ordered banjo style bolts so my hoses will hook up behind my intake housing

*You should really get a DK Customs outlaw air cleaner system, with the external breather system, or at least call them, to ask what you need, for just the catch can. They have a lot of good products. I have one of their air cleaner systems, and I noticed the difference. Another thing that you might want to check into is footboard extensions.*

great video, I put a camera down through the spark plug holes and the pistons where covered with gum and oil , know I vent into the atmosphere, pistons tops have cleaned up.

I bought a 2015 103 Dyna Fatbob, a few months in which was basically enough time for the cleaned breather system to re create its path to the intake the bike started having problems.
High revs coming down gears clutch pulled, slow speed cut outs, re starts and re cut outs, eventually clearing. Lumpy starts.
Removal of air filter showed oily residue fouling the IAT sensor, being in the fuel tract it could clean itself but it still caused issues.
Harleys fix £80 clean and a few months later the problem re occurs.
Fitted a DK Customs Catch Can sitting just below the heavy breather between the push rods slightly above the timing chest. Blocked the pathways from the head breathers with fuel resistant silicon sealant. No more problems. Should the sealant be sucked into the intake which I highly doubt would happen, the engine would just spit the soft compund out rhe exhaust port.
Your cure looks un sexy as do most of the basic rubber hoses exiting air filters.
I used black anodised end fittings though had to modify these to accept stainless quality jubilee clips and black braided hose with black painted brass fittings. Check it out end of video ruclips.net/video/NXqZBmcgKSQ/видео.htmlsi=cNnV5LmAc8XMo9-S Also show cased on the DK Customs website under pictures.
Intend to fit a similar device on my M8 though being as we're back to a single cam and now have a ride by wire module in the way will route the breather over the heads and down below the coil. Should look sweet if done right. System will still vent high as ran simlar setups on X1 buells using forcewinder air filters which routed up and over.

Hi 👋, Sandy and Family and Friends, I hope you all had a great Christmas 🤶, and wishing you all a Happy New Year 🥳,
strange, how laws have changed about emissions, some I don’t think are for the good, I have used K&N air breather kits, on all my vehicles from back around the 70s, Doesn’t matter whether it is my bike or my car or my van, After watching your territorial pouring oil onto your filter, I had a quick look on Google and even went down to the basement to look in my fluid cabinet , and I have still got my K&N oil , which is an aerosol, and yes, I said aerosol not arsehole 😂. I believe the aerosol gives you a more even coating ., of oil over the filter, Ride Safe,
Happy New Year to everybody hope you all have a great one , 🎉🍷🍾. Phil from the moulin France .

The Trask tranny vented cover is the trick... it works fantastic. I get zero snot out of my head breathers. I also run the head breathers to a DK Customs catch can, which I installed inside the breather box. Dirty air does discolor the filter where the catch can is placed. However, it is minimal. I change my stock filter every 1000 miles. I only ride 2000 miles each year. I see people over oiling their K&N filters. They require just enough oil to cover the entire element. The best approach when oiling is to lightly spray the filter and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. This allows the oil to spread and penetrate. If there are white spots, reapply just enough in those areas. Repeat the cycle as needed. Also, if you over fill your crankcase with oil, you will get an oily mess on your filter. Never add oil to an M8 unless the stick reads at fill line or below. I use the cold check method. When I return from a ride, I keep the bike upright and let it idle for two minutes and then shut it off. When the bike cools down, check the level. It should be at the halfway mark. If it is, you are good to go. I have found that using the hot check is inconsistent. My two cents. Best of luck :-)

Yeah take your throttle body off and look in that intake manifold and see how much oil is in there. It will blow your mind. I just upgraded my intake manifold to a hpi ported and polished with new injectors. After seeing how much oil was in the stock one I wasn’t going to start the bike before I did the breather mod.

John, (AKA Blockhead on RUclips) and his mechanic did something simular a year or two ago. Those screws that you use didn`t exist then so they used three zerc fittings, two where the blow buy comes out, then rubber hose to the T then more rubber hose to the last zerc fitting in a drilled then tapped hole in the oil resovar top.

On a level surface, a cold oil check. The oil level on the stick should be dead center. Any more than that, that's when the problems start. How do I know? Been there done that.
