👍Two comments: 1) Simple metric to imperial ‘adapter coupling’ and you’re free to use imperial pipe or fittings 2) I agree with your staff that it’s easier to enjoy viewing straight-on view of tank without having to bend over. I have my reef centered to eye level...and small ladder for maintenance isn’t a big deal...tank dimensions shouldn’t be taller than 24” imo. Love you’re vids...keep em coming! Cheers
BRS and other companies sell metric adapters. That is a fixable issue. Short stands make it difficult to work in the sump. 32-34” is about the minimal stand height for a reef tank. 36-38” is where most people end up with a max height of about 42”. IMO 36-38” is a good workable height.
I have a Cade 1800 and love it. They offer it all but the difference is the stand is metal (non rust) and they have built in cable management on the right side (end door). You can plug in all of your equipment via 18 plugs inside the cabinat and have on/off switches on the control panel. When I was shopping around the price was about the same since they offered free shipping at the time.
Taller tanks are a pain to maintain and harder to reach inside, but IMO it does look better presentation wise, especially if you have a room with a high ceiling.
The trend is going toward more frag type of tanks with max 18-20 inch high. I prefer really a lagoon style like the IM 25 which was very popular, I wished they would make a 24 x 24 x16 or 36 x 24 x 14 tank. You get a wide area and an overview. Days of the 55 gallon type of high tank is over because of the negative scapes.
i have a reefer 250 and did custom plumbing, it was super easy. (not a plumber lol) just did 3/4 inch slip into the bottom of the over flow tube connectors.
Personally I like the height for viewing, a small step is not an issue for the one time a week I need hands-in maintenance. Plumbing is OK, only impacts Americans as the rest of the world went metric decades ago. After 12 months with my 200XL I've had no issue with hardware. I think this polarizing video is aimed at getting clicks and interactions to drive the algorithm lol.
The reason the reefers are tall is probably for the fish to be able to swim diagonally especially the tangs Edit: also fish like morish idols get hella tall so that may be another reason
people need to stop buying morush idols but I agree that empty space at the top of a scap also creates open swimming space for a lot of fish that like to move around my face dimension is 18x18 or 24x24 on the ends but depends on the length of the tank 18x18 really starts to look thin beyond 4ft
Height is often needed for skimmers and installing additional equipment, wear shoe lifts. As said by others metric fittings around the world and if one is competent enough to consider plumbing changes like manifolds, etc. finding is easy enough. Agree with overflows being all the same; would keep me from owning a smaller Reefer. After my custom tank had a under glass fitting leak, I was almost ready after 50 years of keeping marine life to call it a day, but then... the Reefer. Could not be more pleased with my choice and if I feel anything additional is needed, then I will either construct the item or have it made.
'It's in that weird European metric' Laughing out loud... The whole world uses Metric except USA, Myanmar and liberia...also the metric system makes so much more sense
Re: red sea’s door closers/magnetic latches ....perhaps instead of offering replacements you could offer “Blum soft closing hinges”...would be a major upgrade and ppl can get rid of those cheap oem closers/latches.
I dont know if the hinges are metric as well, but you could buy those hinges in any home improvement store. I know with mine the salt water rusts them out quite quickly unless you find a way to spray them with some kind of sealant or something to protect them.
Lol... The rest of the world is using the metric system. There's only 3 countries in the world who still uses the imperial system. The US, Liberia and Myanmar are the only ones using the ridiculous imperial system.
3 things I don’t like, 1 is the diaphragm valve it’s a ball ache compared too a gate valve, on the peninsula once your sump is in you cannot adjust the lower hinges on doors, lastly they are not vented enough in the cabinets and the amount of condensation you get inside is terrible, a major contender is water box in my opinion, but that said I love my redsea peninsula despite its flaws ;)
everything you hate sold me on it. I prefer metric because where I live isn't stuck in the dark ages with imperial. metric is the most used form of measurement in the world sorry not sorry. love the hight as it's better for viewing though it does suck working on a tall aquarium and the closers; it sucks that they break so often but could easily be upgraded to better quality closers. and even so is much better than my current cabinet the slams when the high gloss doors slip out of your wet hands. the thing I'd like to see though is a case style cabinet with access on the ends out built-in outlets. but yeah these things all sell it. I hate I'm imperial tank the parts have conversions that don't add up and I hate having to bend down or sit down to look at it and I hate that it doesn't have closers even cheap ones which I should add but I just know i won't ever add them as I'm now sold on this tank. keep up the great content
I looked at the red sea 900xxl. Ended up going with the CADE 1800 S2. Both beautifully built but the CADE just had the edge on class and style. But if I couldn't get CADE would I go RedSea. Most definitely.
@@Freedom69881 no. The rear magnets for my RedSea 45's suit in the ATO reservoir. I just keep my ato at about 80% full so they aren't in the water. Which to be honest shouldn't be an issue if they were because the are coated.
agree with the height being too tall and especially if youre enjoying your tank from the couch or a chair anyway and yes the plumbing is odd and kinda cheaply built too, you can break the plastic too easy if you tighten past tok many clicks on the fittings and then youre stuck ordering a replacement online cause you cant buy it in canada (despite adopting the metric system here, go figure) not a fan of their sump and baffle layouts either.
I like a tall tank love to walk up to it an look in i have back problems dont like bending over .I love your store an site iam in Tennessee in USA 🇺🇸 thanks again
Ah yes, the cheaply made parts that break or stop working. That’s because things are built to fail nowadays, so companies can make money off of replacement parts. Just about everyone does it anymore. I won’t say everyone does it though because I’m sure there are companies that want to be known for the reliability of their products, but for the most part, the more sales a company can make, the more money they end up getting out of the initial purchase. The height is something they probably could fix though, by offering your choice in height out of 2 different height stands. I don’t yet have a saltwater tank, so I don’t know if the plumbing or the overflow size would bother me at all though. Anyway... I love your videos! Keep them coming! Take care! Ps. Sorry for the extra long comment!

Most people will enjoy a tank while sitting as we spend more time on our asses then anything else.

It's ok if your short but don't make everybody else's back hurt.
What are your thoughts with the Waterbox tanks?
Taller tanks are a pain to maintain and harder to reach inside, but IMO it does look better presentation wise, especially if you have a room with a high ceiling.
And fish swimming up and down and not only side to side adds a different type of movement.
What tank is that?? the empty one that is next to your own pennisula with the white stand???
Do you sell Waterbox. They are similar to Red Sea but nicer in my opinion
Wish the stand on my 525xl was a couple inches taller!
Frankly I disagree with comment about metric. Most countries use metric instead of imperial
They sell the conversation for all RED SEA TANKS and CADE TANKS. Everywhere even BRS & Marine Depot I think the best are Cade & IM with 8060 Aluminum
This was something I was about to post. I know BRS carries adaptors for the different metric to imperial sizes.

tank height I agree 18 to 20inches is perfect unless you have some great shaping abilities. but I'd still make up the height with the cabinet
I'm the guy you sold the Red Sea XL200 and the valve was defective the next day I set it up....
i have a reefer 250 and did custom plumbing, it was super easy. (not a plumber lol) just did 3/4 inch slip into the bottom of the over flow tube connectors.
I fully agree, I think all the industry stands are way too tall. I end up cutting them down to modify them.
Any thoughts on waterbox kits
Thanks for the video!

That 170g tanks seem not to be level or is that just an illusion?

Talk tanks look better but short tanks can be easier to scape.

There is a reason why NASA use metric, it’s just better in every way 👌🏻

The width is kind of on the narrow. You can't add and depth to the width. As for the tank height it's perfect for bigger fish to swim in.

Actually the Nyos Opus 300 is way better! Perfect height and depth + the stand is made of solid wood with integrated steel.
They for sure are too tall, I don't know why you should need a ladder to access a tank.
