Thank you for having a camera angle that really shows the puddle and how you're using the stick around and in it. Definitely helps me see it here in a video so I can try and look for something similar when I do my own welds. Fitting up pipe like this for a weld takes a while and it's hard sometimes to feel like you're getting enough welding in when you spend so much time cutting and grinding pipe.

I was having to pool cue my rod a lot on a job I was doing and started warping my glove fingers. Couldn't find anything but masking tape. Wrapped 2 fingers and it worked great! The rod isn't hot enough to burn the tape, and my glove stays straight. Now I have masking tape on 2 fingers of every left glove I have.

Why do you want to have a wider gap for uphill? Thanks for your videos, I'm a fan of all of them!
I have a request, if y'all made a video explaining why you choose certain gaps given different circumstances that would be the bees knees. Variables such as size of rod, uphill or downhill, process and other things that would affect the gap you choose. That would be really helpful to me and I'm sure many others.

Just tried to weld a 22mm pipe. Thick...damn thing blew a hole in it. Yesterday the settings werent enough to weld 10ga but in the part I NEED, and worked my ass off to recondition...this is the one it blows through.
My hands are shaking..(injury. I shouldnt be around machinery). I dont know of a trick to keep a 1/16 rod steady enough. After 1000 times of it sticking to the piece, I finally get my tacks...and then I begin my bead...and blow a 1/8 hole in the piece.

Put a heavier land since you don’t know how to weld tour moving slower,,,,since your moving slow a larger land will help you gather your thoughts at your pace when your start moving naturally and faster you won’t have an issue blowing through

Do a video for us old bastards on I can't see, It'll be fun! Maybe touch on some of the vison aids available that go in helmets. I simply have a pair of safety glasses with a bifocal element top and bottom just so I can see out of the helmet and weld in focus. Most of the time anyway!
Still enjoying the pipe series Bob. I never did a lot of pipe welding, but the techniques used are so handy in repair work, especially when you can only weld from one side. 5P "wonder rod" for roots and close up gaps ( Dare I say burn through dirt😀) and 7018 for fill and cap.
