Half the time "do this, not that" stuff just makes me want to go out of my way to do "that" and make it work, as most of them are just preference and personal style, and don't actually reflect what works for everyone OR what we see in people irl. Ramen bowl eyes on all the women? Big round eyes on all the manly men? I could see that being a completely natural thing for certain styles. The inspiration from pure defiance is why I watch a lot of videos titled in the "ABSOLUTELY DRAW LIKE THIS" way, lol. Keeps me spitefully exploring new things and experimenting.

I LOVE YOUR TUTORIALS it helps me so much!!
I feel as though this is somthing that is very suggestive, simply for the fact of prefrence. An example would be, say I want a soft and shy young boy, I would give him rounder eyes to further his personality, not harsh, edgey eyes. I am not saying that anything is wrong with this method, simply that other methods should have been taken into consideration and have been explained as to why you use this specific method in more detail.
It's mainly because as a younger artist I personally had much confusion in the area of style(prefrence) verses actual anatomical facts.
Just a thought.
Yep, I think it's just more of shape language rather than actual anatomy difference between male and female. It's interchangable, also, there are more than only round and sharp eyes. Not saying the drawings here are bad, they're very pretty and I love them. It's just that I think it's too rigid because eye shapes are just too broad. Maybe it's better to learn many shapes of eyes without limiting it to a certain sex and look up references for different eye shapes irl.
This video is coming from a really weeb-ish, k-pop fangirl-ish perspective on gender dimorphism.
Male eyes typically appear smaller and more deepset due to male skulls being larger, wider and more protruding forwards. That's it, the rest is either stereotypes or only partially true. Her claiming aegyo-sal is a female trait sure made me chuckle.

@@buddy.ymotard aegyo-sal is a female trait? Like yes on beauty and considered as feminine standards, but I don't really think its gender because I do see males having it. Example; male idols that are known as the visual of their group have aegyo-sal like Kim Seokjin and Jungkook too has very round doe eyed and soft kind of eyes, and yes, i do think maybe its just the artist preference since mostly she reads webtoons and the characters on it has surely this kind of eye styles. 💜💕😊

To me, it depends more on personality and emotion than gender. It has never once occurred to me to attribute genders to eyes. Maybe I’m biased because I’m non-binary though.
Nah you're based because you're nonbinary. People who gender eyes or use things best used to indicate personality or character to indicate something as arbitrary as gender are always going to be weaker with the actual creativity of their design by holding themselves back for the sole purpose of adhering to a social prejudice when making their characters

Not only is this blatantly wrong, but it ignores the fact that many other eye shapes exist. This is how you get artist who can only draw the same thing and crack when put under pressure to draw something new
You may have missed the fact that this is vERY OBVIOUSLY a tutorial for a very particular stylisation.

What's funny about the 'female eyelashes are longer' thing is that they're literally not. Men tend to actually have longer eyelashes.

No no….masculine and feminine. Why? Because these traits can be put on any gender. For me its all in the personality the eye. If the art has an eye thats gonna be the main focus one one of them always. Even if its not visible. Your viewers are always gonna look into the eyes just like they would for a person. And like with anything in art the eye is an amazing place to add personality. Say if its a angry looking guy thats actually a softie. Five light eyes to tell the viewer about that important trait. Hope this helped a bit

i like the tutorial but there is absolutely no difference between female or male eyes, just as there is no difference between a female or male brain, liver, kidneys, ears, heart, bones, teeth etc. etc. Apart from the cones and receptors in the retinas
Actually, girls do in fact have smaller bones than males genetically speaking, but yeah we're pretty much the same
Boys and girls do have different brain structures. One reason why people are trans by the way is because their brains are structured in a way that matches more with what they identify as. There's also bone differences, like cis women and trans men have different structured hip bones compared to cis men and trans women.
Other than that I agree. I think when talking about anatomy, people should stick to the terms "masculine" and "feminine" instead of female and male.

Anyways there is absolutely no actual proof that male and female brains are structured any differently LMAO. Yes s//xual dimorphism does exist in humans but its like. In bone density, hair production, fat distribution, pelvic and skull structure, muscle density, etc.. and even then its not ALWAYS the case, some AFAB people are taller, have more testosterone than average, have narrower pelvises, etc.. everyone is built a little differently and nothing is 100% true all the time in anatomy and biology. yes, organs in males are usually larger because it relates to body mass which males are TYPICALLY larger on average but the organs (aside from the s//xual dimorphic ones, like reproductive organs and what hormones the pituitary gland produces) still serve the exact same purpose. They arent changing shape because of s//x… please do actual research before typing complete fiction lol

Can big artists PLEASE stop teaching the new generations this shit, and start teaching about characterisation without words or about conveying identity through appearance in an actually useful way? The indication with these eyes is not gender - that's total BS - what you may actually infer here is that both characters are somewhat hollow (sorry), but the "male" one is more nihilistic, or scornful, and the "female" example has more of a simple numbness. Tying gender (not even gender PRESENTATION, which at least says something about the person) to eye shape, body shape, stance etc is such a horrific bastardisation of everything character design entails.
Hide behind it being "just a tutorial" all you want but OP is doing nothing good here. Hell, they're actively making things worse when it comes to what the people watching them are picking up.
@@anum1951 Bad advice is bad advice, and to a young or budding artist can fuck with the learning process, counteracting actual good technique and practice. She's not talking about her art, she's framed her whole channel around advice and being an example - THE example, even.
There's saying "I personally draw my girls eyes this way, and guys that way, because I enjoy splitting features of my characters down gender lines and I think it gives my art X feel, or adds Y to my character designs.", and then there's saying "male eyes are like this, female eyes are like this. draw them this way." to an audience of primarily artists who won't know any better.
