    Thanks for video. Just want to share my experience with adjusting spring tension. I did as instructed, I raised the right side of the sash so I could begin to take it out. When I did that, the plastic block released and the right side guide mechanism sprung up. When I investigated further, the blue pivoting insert popped out of the plastic block and was still attached to the pin on the sash. Getting the blue circular pivot insert back into the sliding plastic block was no easy feat. I spent 45 minutes trying get the pivoting insert back into the sliding block. So for me the better method was to bring the sash down to horizontal and use the spring tool without removing the sash. So I would suggest that you try releasing the spring without removing the sash first. If that works great. If it doesn’t then go ahead and remove the sash as the video instructs.

    If you plan to do this yourself, note that spiral balance applies to different window types and requires different tools. If you don't have Kohltech windows, do your homework first.

      The base of the tool is spinning clockwise, that's what we use for rotation. Hope that helps!

      @Kohltech Windows & Entrance Systems I still don't follow as far as I can tell the base of the tool is also spinning counter clockwise

    how do I buy the spiral balance tool and any replacement balances?

  • @litedesign82
    @litedesign82 2 года назад

    My springs just spin and spin, there's no tension whatsoever. Can the springs be repaired, or do they need to be replaced entirely? Just moved into an old house, and I've got about a dozen windows that won't stay open.

    What do you do if the tool slips out and the spring gets released?

    • @Kohltech
      @Kohltech  5 лет назад +10

      Just start from scratch and I wind it up about 7 turns and try it to see how it works if it’s still dropping put a few more turns on it and try it again . It depends on what he size but 7 is the magic number I find .

    Can you purchase replacement spiral balances?

  • @Skirk84

    Thats absolutely not how windows work around here. You cant tilt 90 degrees haha. You have to remove the frame to get the window out. Not only that but the sash springs are screwed into the bottom of the window that needs to be removed.

      Sounds as if you have some older (1950s-1970s) wood-sash windows. I've seen the kind with regular coil springs which use the friction of the aluminum tracks to make up for the varying force of the springs. When I was a kid, we had a different style that had the spring on the inside of the worm gear (spiral), and you could adjust them by turning a screw at the top of each side of the sash one click at a time. Those needed periodic lubrication or they'd bind up and break. They usually needed spring adjustment each time they were oiled.

    Why taking out the cover?

    • @Kohltech
      @Kohltech  2 года назад

      If you do not remove the balance cover, when you release the spring, it could retract and cause trouble for you
