Any fellow engineers who are Taylor Swift fans?? 🙋🏻♀️
You need to seriously reconsider your understanding of engineering, the only aspect TS has down is studio
@@griefweaver8432 It was a joke about the bridge of the song
I love the way she says "meetings in parking lots" with such subtle disgust, her tone in this song is amazing
Illicit Affairs seems like an extended version of the line, "you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath" to me.
underrated comment fr
YESSSSSS
Exactlyyyyyyy
Yesssss
Hmhmph, yup. Definitely that. I'm telling you this relationship with her ex Jake Gyllenhaal sure made her write the best find of her career like total master pieces. He was her perfect muse and partner... so sad
This song gets better everytime I come back. Her lyricism is stunning
this song is so underrated by the fandom, it's one of the best
She must be America's premiere poet.
how is lyricism different from lyrics?
@@ShoSho-cq7ct Lyricism is the quality of tunefulness or melody that a piece of music has. And lyrics the words. I guess, I looked it up in the dictionary
Her lyrical master skills r beyond genius. I'd love to see what song she would write for Celine and her duet. Between the lyrical genius and her the best female singer.....that would be insane. Calling it now.
"You know damn well, for you I would ruin myself a million little times."
The cycle of every toxic relationship summarized into one beautiful sentence.
I’m literally crying !!
😩
It also gives this song a real ancient feel or at least a tie to all women who have been told loving someone passionately without marriage will lead to their ruin but not the man’s ruin.
@@TheAquamarine4 Exactly. It reminds me of the novel Anna Karenina too.
Folklore is the pinnacle of her songwriting.
You're absolutely right on that, the album is so poetic and well-written
illicit affairs and tolerate it have the same melancholy story of being a martyr. illicit affairs is a person trapped inside a forbidden relationship, while tolerate it represents what it feels like to be staying in a one sided relationship. both songs are evidently different in story, but it has this presentation of what it feels like to be in a loop of repetitive pain.
🥺🥺
Loop of repetitive pain- Right where you left me!
Illicit affairs has the best bridge in the album. Makes me feel a million feelings
ME TOO
Same but August's bridge got chills too
It’s one of the best. I like the bridge in august a little more tho.
best chorus for me. August, Exile, Cardigan, My Tears Ricochet have the best bridge for me.
I know it’s intense
ivy, august, and illicit affairs are the Trinity of blissful infidelity
blissful? there's really nothing blissful about this song and hardly anything blissful about august
@I Jones I hope so.... that literally is disgusting if they meant it as intended
@@atsuyak768 it's just songs & fiction, chill please
It's funny that you mention that as my top two suggested for this video are ivy and august rn
It's OK for a fictional narrative to say that an affair is bliss... It's fiction.
I love reading all the comments and theories, but one thing that people seem not to notice is that an illicit affair doesn't necesarily have to be between a married couple or related to infidelity. It can be between two unmarried lovers between rival sides, families, religions, between a teacher and a student, a priest and a woman and many more. It's just beautiful how she completely ignored mentioning a third party, leaving us to apply this to any such context. Gosh, this makes me so sad.
😭😭😭😭😭
🥺🥺
This is how I interpreted it too. I actually based one of my fics on Illicit Affairs.

the line “you taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else” reminded me of what céline sciamma once said in a interview: “a relationship is about creating your own language. you’ve got the jokes, you’ve got the songs, you have this anecdote that’s going to make you laugh three years later. it’s this language that you build. that’s what you mourn for when you’re losing someone you love. this language you’re not going to speak with anybody else” and i think that’s beautiful 🥺
I feel this
This is beautiful. I’m mourning the loss of my first true relationship and this is a perfect description.
omg girl what you've just said is so beautiful

1:04
the way she says "a million little times" is similar to how she says "cause you weren't mine to lose" in august
in mad woman she sings '' woman'' as the way she made ''lover'' in ''lover''
interesting!
And both songs are from the perspectives of the girl a guy is cheating with
Idk if because the songs are connected or because taylor loves those types of melodies
oh yea... I didn't notice...
*the key change to the bridge version she did on the Eras Tour will forever live rent free in my head! she sang with utmost passion!*
Illicit affairs: a beautiful song that shows the circumstances of having a secret relationship with someone and how it feels to be in one, where you can't be open. And sometimes how that relationship makes your tired and toxic
'You showed me colors you know I can't see with anyone else"
is one of the best metaphors I've heard

As a straight woman who somehow fall in love with a closeted gay man, this song resonates the night when I realized I was falling deep for him. I still don't know if he lied to me when he said he wanted future with me. He acted like he all passed his last gay relationship and left everything in the past. Made a point that he wanted to fall in love and have a girlfriend. He went planning everything for our future together. I never agree or disagree. He left eventually. And here I am trying to heal from situationship that I never wanted to involve in. If I can choose, I don't want to want him, to fall for him.
one of her best bridges in terms of the emotions it convey. The choir in the background...

I feel like her song "safe and sound" belongs in this album
That’s what I thought too!
Me too
Totally!
thats what ive been thinking since the album came out...
Sameee!! I thought I was the only one thinking that
The goosebumps you feel with that bridge. We hear a woman screaming at her maddest.
I love to focus on the background vocals during the bridge. It’s as if she wanted to bring musicality to a haunting scream. To show the frustration of breaking oneself emotionally over and over again for one who will never truly be theirs.
I think it's the man's pov. (That you picked out just for him) . And ivy id the woman's pov(and drink my husband's wine)
@@anushkakhond3780 Imo ivy seems to be more set in older times. House of stone, clover bloom, plus the grand language is a lot like the poets of 19th century. It seems more to be about affair between two women, when it was deeply frowned upon, and one is engaged to a guy, whereas this is modern, perfume, parking lots, etc, and most probably between a man and woman. There're no cross references between these two songs. But ofc, we can't be sure and heyy same name!
@@anushkakhond3780 i think the whole song is the speaker (woman) talking to herself or looking at the mirror reminding every little detail to do in this affair she's having, i mean when you read the verses- theyre literally reminders or pointers to hide herself and their relationship.
the whole song gives those exact vibes but she’s calm. it’s so amazing.
"And you know damn well for you I would ruin myself" this genius woman
I still can't believe this iconic song is on the eras tour setlist
Taylor Swift has challenged the RUclips algorithm and blown it apart. She's trending on so many levels. This complete album release has everyone talking.
I know right hahaha
leokimvideo, my son has watched so many of your videos (which means I have too), I love that you are listening to Taylor Swift.
It's pretty hard not to when you literally have millions of fans. She doesn't deserve praise for "breaking", the algorithm. She's a popular singer. Of course she's trending
@@katenz100 Lover didn't get this level of clout when it was released though. Not everything can be achieved by fandom alone. Folklore did have a better reception from the general public.
kate her previous album lover hasn’t got a lot of praise and clout as much as folklore has despite being arguably the biggest star of this decade.
Did anyone notice that Taylor didn't repeat the chorus after the bridge in this song like she usually does? That's one of the reason this song is shorter than most other songs of her. Maybe suggesting that an illicit affair doesn't last long, no matter how beautiful it was once? It ends, suddenly. You saw it coming, you knew, but you still waited for the last chorus, until you realise the last chorus was never there. The closure was never there. It ends, abruptly. And you are left longing for more.
Edit - Y'ALL THE TOUR LIVE OF ILLICIT AFFAIRS OHMYGOD-

Thank you, Now listening to this will be more emotional.
wow
so that makes it not a bridge but an outro i-
@@delena4evertvd267 It still counts as bridge in my opinion. I have heard a song which structure is like this. Bridge does not necessarily have to be after a second chorus and sometimes Bridge can be an intro.
I have never gotten a chance to actually appreciate and acknowledge this song. So here I am. Amazed at Taylor's poetry. She's a rare gem. Words are totally her thing.
“You showed me colours i can’t see with anyone else” the reason that the alum folklore is in black ad white :/“You taught me secret language i can’t speak to anyone else” that’s y she is singing :/. This shows how connective the album is with each songs somehow relating to others
let’s be honest: we all needed this
Yess!!
Yes periodtt..
Yes!
yes omg
Idk this album is boring
“For you I would ruin myself a million little times” hits hard
I like how this song explores the feelings of a person involved in illicit affairs without justifying their actions. It’s definitely a lot more nuanced than songs like ‘Better Than Revenge’, for example. We can acknowledge that both cheating and getting involved with someone you know has a partner is wrong without demonizing anyone. Just because something is nuanced, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t wrong, and we can still enjoy art that explores those nuances without excusing the person’s behavior.
I’m speaking from the interpretation of this song being about cheating, of course. I know it can be interpreted in other ways.
“You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else” really hits me hard. I dated someone with whom I was learning and speaking Spanish and I know damn well I’ll never speak that language with anyone else

“You taught me a secret language I can’t speak with anyone else “ - when you are having an affair with someone you can’t tell about that person to anyone . For everyone that person is of no importance in your life but you know how much that person have impacted you . But you cannot share your feelings about this person to anyone else

nothing in this world is more alluring than the bridge of this heavenly song.
This one hits hard. It's so sad when you ruin yourself for someone else, knowing it's not right for you, but can't help it. Ugh, that feeling...
Yahh my heart is bleeding 😢
After a song like "better than revenge", where she blames the girl. Then to "girl at home", where she blames the guy. Now, Taylor has finally begun to see the other side of the story with more empathy in "babe", "august" and "illicit affairs". She now writes from the perspective of the other girl than just writing about her in the third perspective. This perspective shows how she has grown to understand the complications of relationships. This is not black and white anymore. It's gold!!
Why do ppl hate girl at home idgi? She cant warn a man that he has a gf and should not be flirting with her?

It's by far my favourite TS song but I rarely listen to it. When I first listened to this song I couldn't stop crying really hard because that was about half a year after my boyfriend left me. And our relationship began just like it's being told in the song. It all had to be secret and damn, I even had a perfume only for him. Each time after seeing him, I had to lie to other people where I had been. I also had to always check that no one would see us together. "What started in beautiful rooms ends with meetings in parking lots" - at first we used to go to clubs to be able to dance together and eventually we would secretly meet in corners of super markets just to be able to look in each others eyes and talk for a while. "Look at this godforsaken mess that you made me" hit extremely hard at that moment as I was still crying over him MONTHS after it ended. "You showed me colours I can't see with anyone else" - I wasn't able to fall in love with someone else even years later. "Look at this idiotic fool that you made me" - in the end, I did all of this hard work of hiding and keeping secrets for nothing but heartbreak... "For you I would ruin myself a million little times" I know if he asked me to see him now, I would say yes in an instance. It's ironic how much I love this song but still keep it as my little secret.
