@@SD-Plumbing-Heating yeah, and you can over do it too. Ask me how I know. lol. It's how I started for sure. I just over time kept moving the ball back farther trying to get the crisp ball first connections I was missing because I was swaying. And the farther back I moved the ball the more it turned. 30 yard wide draws with the driver. Sand wedges were turning 20 feet in the air. There were holes I couldn't play because trees lined the right too close and I couldn't hit it any other way. So yeah, it can go too far. But, I fixed that and if you end up needing to later, you will too.
This is GOLD. I was a chronic slicer. I thought for years I had to move the ball forward to give me time to close the face. It just made things worse. A few years ago I moved the ball back, drop my hands to come from the inside, and started hitting beautiful shots. The ball position felt wierd at first but just trust it. It works.
I'm so pleased my golf mate, when we were playing yesterday recommended I visit your channel. I'm so pleased he did. Great first lesson for me on here.
I'm taking this to the range ASAP! My last round was just soul crushing because I could NOT get the face closed and I lost many, many balls in the woods on the right. Thanks for the tip!
I've sliced the ball since the beginning of my game - I'm really hoping that this drill will help. Would you combine this drill with the stronger grip (that is, hands rotated towards the back foot) that I've been using for a while, or is it better to go with the squared grip for this drill?
The easiest way. What Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm have in common? Yerp, crooked left wrist. Go see their swing. It immediately correct my slice. IMMEDIATELY.
I have to bring the ball position back for my driver and woods as my left leg is shorter than my right but should i do the same with my irons as i cant take divots and if i do its 2 little pieces, thanks alex.
We have a real short par 4 that I can reach with my 5 wood for a first hole on the home course. My favorite shot is putting the ball just behind center stance and hitting a big draw to that hole. There's an evergreen of some sort that stands 50 foot tall about halfway there that I wrap the ball around the top of. It's so satisfying when I get it right.
I am a chronic slicer of the driver. Actually, I call it a power fade cause it will go dead straight for 150-170 yards then make a hard right turn. Usually ending up on the next fairway or rough. This has frustrated me to no end. I’m going to start using your tips at the range and see if I can muster the courage to get back out on the course.
I completely stopped my slice by changing my swing. Just started playing golf and was swinging my driver like my irons. Didn't realize there are two different swings. Plus I turn my wrists over just a tad at contact, which I now hit a nice fade almost every time.
2 things that helped me the most is not playing into my slice and ball position just as you said, still not fully releasing the club for a draw but now hitting power fades, with my swing speed of 109mph im getting about 280 every drive
Hang on here. You hit the ball in the back position and loved it. So why change to the more forward position? Why can't you hit it from the back position??
Hi, i find i get more control over the club this way. I have an in depth guide on ball position going up tonight at 8pm uk time which should help explain ball position further. I will also be featuring your question as it is a great question, thanks!
Does this apply with fairway woods too? Can you help me not slice my fairway woods? I feel my driver has been fixed with these tips but struggle with fariway woods.
good tips. I discovered for me some grip changes that makes me hit hook, after some changes in the stance i am able to hit 245m (carry+roll) dead straight. I started golf 6 month ago...
Alex my miss is a low left hit especially with a driver and with hybrid and irons sometimes. Need help can you do a video to help me correct this frustration?
Whenever I hit the ball, my club is open which creates that nasty slice. All I did was close the face on my grip. I had to get used to it, but that actually fixed my slice. It was crazy. Happened in one shot.
I listened to the whole video I'm still not exactly sure I'm going to try it can you make a few more videos on slicing good stuff today thank you very much
This video works in reverse and explains why i've started to have a little fade on my driver again after consistantly hitting a draw for a long time. I recently moved the ball just slightly more forward in my stance to try and get under it more and now am hitting a nice fade when i need one. I had wondered why i had started being able to fade the ball again. With this info i should now be able to learn where in my stance the ball needs to be for both fade and draw.
A slice is caused by and out to in swing path? Not necessarily so. The root cause of a slice is an open face to the swing path, regardless of what that swing path is.
I know this is probably going to annoy some of the life-long slicers out there, but I've never had that problem and despite not being a very good golfer, I don't think it's very hard at all to correct a slice. My father, who is 79 years of age sliced about 1/2 of his drives and I was able to explain to him why it was happening and get him to fix it in about 10 minutes lol. Once he understood that it was his club head that was imparting the side spin on the ball because of his swing path, he could visualize the difference between my hits and his (mine are square on the face and dead straight). I think most people who slice the ball and can't fix it, are simply swinging too hard and that's why they can't stop because doing something at full speed makes it much harder to fine tune things.
This is exactly correct everytime I would swing to hard I would crush it but a horrible slice when I slowed my swing I would crush it straight 😮I feel like my forearms would not rotate with how fast I would swing so my face was open
The driver is all about geometry. My coach who is a biomechanical swing specialist fixed my slices in about 20 minutes. All he did was changing my position. According to his teachings most youtube golfers do not stand properly tho, including this one.
Clubface manipulation is the reason people slice , the clubface should close naturally and you should let it , if i want a fade i hold it open a bit if i want a hook then i do whats being described , turning slicers into hookers isnt the answer . Im an ex slicer that progressed to hooker and it can be traumatic hitting all over the show . Ideally find a swing thats repeatable and a way of gripping that closes the face through the ball at the same point naturally and without any manipulation . This is what should be getting taught not some fix . Slicers try to hit down the target line and thus hold the face open , its not an over the top the problem its manipulation or thinking you must . Put the ball anywhere and a slicer will slice ( or pull eventually) Lets have some honest teaching . Find a swing thats fluid and repeatable. Find a grip that suits it and eliminates the need to manipulate the face ( impossible to repeat ). Hit balls , have fun .
Idk what's even going on here. If I don't setup with my driver on the inside of that towel I'll be lucky to catch the heel of my club. I've got bigger issues. Lol
You need to make up your mind buddy. First you want us to set up like Jon rahm and then you want us to move the ball back in our stance so that we are hitting the ball in line with our right thigh. I would say you're probably the top 50 golf coaches if you measured them on the basis of how much they could confuse😂 if I put the ball that far back in my stance I would cup my left wrist more trying to make contact with the ball instead of having bowed or flat wrist at impact. A ball that far back in their stands for someone that comes in over the top is just going to cause an even worse attacking angle. Congratulations to you for being able to hit the ball well from all of these weird positions🎉
I think he is just showing different ways to accomplish the similar results. We all have different swings for our body types so there is no one way (Rahm) to do this. I can't do the Rahm thing but this works for me. Maybe you could not be such a douche about it? Probably not...
It’s literally a drill to get a feel for an in to out swing path.. once you have that feel, you put the ball back in normal position. Comprehension is key.

Used to have a horrible slice (2 fairways over slice) and all I did to fix it was a stronger grip. Now I'm drawing or hitting them dead straight
Made my grip stronger and still slice like mad
I applied the towel drill you showed a couple weeks ago, and it made a huge difference on my clubface.

May I ask….if the ball is farther back, do you not need, what we call in tennis, ‘fast hands’ to release the club head so (relatively) quickly?
Club moves straight back. Helped me fix my slice instantly.

I'm so confused. Am I supposed to tee up two balls when I hit? Or am I supposed to imagine hitting the first ball and but really hit the second ball?
wont you then be hitting down rather than an upward strike ?
How can I keep my left arm straight in the back swing?
What happens if you hit the back ball but open up your stance a little?
