I could probably make more videos on him. He has a fair bit of character to him.

I mean to say "He doesn't have a special power to get him out of troubles" isn't really true. His whole affinity for "seeing the line" more than other thiefs shows that despite his own take, on himself being just ordinary, that he's not. Yes all thieves can see the line. But it's pretty strongly suggested that most thieves almost never do. Like once or twice in a career. Haru sees it extraordinarily often. Even Barbara a mentor in the guild hints that she's only seen it a few times. Other characters have commented on Haru's unique skill set plenty even beyond seeing the line. Merry has had POV chapters where she's thought back to when she first joined. And how when the party was a mess he still stood out in his ability to observe be patient and use his decisive attacks. That he's more skilled with backstab than much more experienced adventurers. And that he was already growing as a leader. In Haru's head sure he's an every man. But others note constantly his well above average abilities as a leader and his observational skills and tactical awareness are also superb. Also Haru's first big feet in combat was way earlier than you are attributing. It was killing Death Spot. And after death spot while it wasn't a 1 v 1 type of feat his situational awareness and leadership was why anyone survived the battle of DeadHead Watching Keep. Haru stops being looked down upon at that point by pretty much everyone. It's pretty clear he has the respect of other party leaders like Rock and Akira. Him being recruited into Daybreakers wasn't because of pity.

but he stops seeing the line commonly in later volumes. I dont even think hes seen it for the last 7 volumes i believe.

@@mouselord4167 He was struggling with it for a bit yeah. It's implied that it requires a balance of physical and mental attributes and for awhile his mental state was out of whack so he wasn't seeing it. But when he had his mental reset he began seeing it just as frequently again. Then when he regained his memories it was gone again. Reinforcing what I said. He's well above average it's just inside of his own head that he's weak.

So far, the majority of English complaints I've seen concerning Grimgar has to do with Haruhiro's "weakness" as well as the party losing. They kept complaining about how there's no "progress", while ignoring the party's growth in their ability to handle life circumstances. While I do think Haruhiro's monologues are at times too repetitive, his thoughts are evolving quite a lot. This is especially true when we see him talk about Ranta. There are also some really impactful lines in volume 18 too. I am certain that people are simply not used to the subtle developments that the author loves to write about. Shihoru's characterisation slowly drip fed in various events, Ranta's overall demeanour explained and of course Haruhiro's cautious behaviour.

The problem with Grimgar is that while it has a guild system, it uses real life physics, meaning you have to manually learn the skills. In most modern Isekai ( looking at you SAO) use videogame mechanics and skill gathering skills. And no Haruhiro is not some born badass. He is a legitimate loser. To start with.

Characters in grimgar are relatable. Even there situation is relatable by about 90% of all people on earth. For me grimgar is a hidden gem.

Videos like this make me really excited to read this series! I recently bought a few volumes during the last Christmas sale on Book Walker and though I haven't watched the anime, I have heard so many good things about this series and I am glad it's as good as I heard. Seriously, great character development and weak characters growing improving via trials and hardship?! I love this stuff! I mean, I enjoy the OP and special archetypes too but something about an underdog becoming strong via merit and hardwork is so appealing.

Grimgar really is the best isekai out there. I almost feel like we don't deserve such a well written story and cast given all the generic ones we settle for.

Shiroe's skill in log Horizon isn't actually unique to him. Just like Haruhiro, it's a skill a lot of characters of his type have. The thing that makes Shiroe special is the shear scale at which he can do it, the vat majority of people can keep track of maybe 4 players at once, whereas shiroe is capable of keeping track of an entire raid teams health and mp. Theres also his out of the box thinking that allows him to come up with strategies and figure our things other people wouldn't. That's exactly why he's respected and why people look to him to lead.
