Absolutely brilliant idea and a very handsome little axe. Word of warning, this is a UK illegal carry - I think? Anyway, would make a fantastic Christmas present (hope my wife sees this) All the best to you 👍
Ian Robson instead of writing that, I would suggest contacting Ben and asking him. He is a highly responsible uk maker with many years experience, and I expect he has researched that question before going into production.
@@nigelwylie01 I REALLY don't want to upset Ben, or you for that matter, but this falls into the category of fixed blade, and it does not matter how small the blade is, if you get caught, you are in trouble! BTW, I don't agree with it!
@@BeercanBushcraft it's an axe not a fixed blade knife so as long as you have lawful authority or reasonable excuse it is legal, eg. I'm going to work where I have some blunt pencils so need my tiny razor sharp axe or if you were the Queen's chief box opener. Just don't put bright green tape on the handle because it would then become a zombie axe and I think you'd get the death penalty.
@@nigelwylie01 Here's the relevant law section (criminal justice act 1988, section 139): "139 Offence of having article with blade or point in public place. (1)Subject to subsections (4) and (5) below, any person who has an article to which this section applies with him in a public place shall be guilty of an offence. (2)Subject to subsection (3) below, this section applies to any article which has a blade or is sharply pointed except a folding pocketknife. (3)This section applies to a folding pocketknife if the cutting edge of its blade exceeds 3 inches." Subsections (4) and (5) just talk about it being the responsibility of the person found with the article to prove that the item is carried for work, religious purposes, or whatever. Subsections (2) and (3) state only certain folding pocket knives are exempt, so the ATOM axe would be considered illegal if carried without a good excuse, since it's clearly not a folding pocket knife. link: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/33/section/139#commentary-c12795441 Edit: That all being said, the Ben's website doesn't claim that the ATOM is legal carry and talks about home and kitchen use and, in legal terms, it's obviously always going to be the responsibility of the person actually carrying the bladed article to make sure they're within the law.
thanks a lot, really appreciate the kind words! sure I have been trying to get a little fitter so I can get up the Fells without being too puffed out! many thanks, cheers Ben
Thanks a lot, I am trying 👍 these go for £75 in the Uk outside the EU we can tax off our taxes for you. Drop me a line and I can work it out for you. Many thanks cheers Ben
Ben Orford thanks Ben I’m in Shropshire so no worries about postage I’ve just shown the video to the other half she’s been asking what i want for Christmas 😁
John Waddington it’s not a Uk legal carry like any fixed blade unfortunately. Also the cost is a low as we can make it with materials, time, running cost and taxes. We do this full time so this is our business rather than a hobby. Thanks for the input. cheers Ben
Cool wee axe :-)
I like the idea of a pocket axe rather than a pocket knife.
It's £75!!!!!
