  • A lecture on the life, work and influence of Aristotle. The penultimate lecture in the Ancients lecture series by Wesley Cecil PhD. presented at Peninsula College.
    Note: Actually that is a picture of Plato - Ha, Aristotle would hate that!

      No, he always keeps it to one hour and he gets as much as he can into that, while fooling you that you’re being entertained rather than educated.

      @@dominicberry5577 I don't think you should have made the argument that you did. You say "nah" but you agree with him in the last part of you writing. "Wes" is technically more. More than you can get from the typical college scene. And its free. And interesting all while very educational. You're not actually disagreeing with the claim wes is more. I don't think you understood it in the first place. And it's also just sort of a funny quip sort of joke slogan. No disrespect go with God namaste.

    Strange, I never heard about Aristotle going in a somewhat hedonistic morality. All one hears about him is his epistemology. Great lecture, thanks for the great introduction.

    • @DopeEgo
      @DopeEgo 5 лет назад +1

      His Ethics were fundamentally a Eudaimonia morality. Although I see where you see elements of hedonism but Epicurus was infact heavily influenced by Aristotle. Eudaimonia doesnt point towards pleasure but rather towards human flourishing well being and happiness with a rational compass. It is definitely one of the moral standard of todays age.

    How come some people same Mon-tain and others say Mon-taynya? Which is it? I usually go for the latter, but Alain De botton also,says it the latter. Can it be both?

    .....oh thank gawd a new lecture, I was begging to fear that our boy Wes had OD on coffee and ice cream or something. Check the statistics nothing kills intellectual professors in this nation quite like coffee and ice cream, they really should require a prescription for the stuff.....but then again I suppose the MS13s would then just simply illegally smuggle the stuff in oh what a world. Either way I’m always happy to get a new lecture.

    When in doubt, like is it a table or a box, _question the vocabulary_ and "tablox" perhaps comes to mind.
    Vocabulary is often a limiting factor as it forces us to categorize which may result in endless and perhaps useless arguments ;^)

    Saying Athens did not love him that much is like saying dogs are offended by cats. Ancient people generally were not concerned with or care for scholars or philosophers, just like today they don't. The legacy of greats like Aristotle have earned a residue of respect, but generally no, and certainly in our period horrible intellectuals who couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Aristotle have made the situation worse.

    Imagine Valentin is very rich, and Valentin tries to do something like pay someone a lot of money to "initiate" some business in Miami Florida, for example. I think I just heard that something like $600 would be enough for "good business." How do Valentin's opponents, that means our team, advertise Valentin's actions?? They should be fair, right?? Valentin still needs to show up in public, Valentin does not like to be booed.

    So Aristotle is contradicting himself? He says that the goal of civilization is to ensure that all people can express themselves to their fullest, than denies the people who would prefer to do that on their own?

      lol, Peterson is a self-help guru who makes money out of idiots. His knowledge of politics and philosophy is non-existent.

      But he's helped millions of people. What has philosophy done for you?

    • @skillful101
      @skillful101 6 лет назад +9

      lol he has helped people by as much as a self help guru can(hint:not much). Didnt know that saying clean your room was worthy of praise.(something parents have told their kids to do for ages). All Peterson does is say the same talking points conservatives have said, only he adds a bit of pseudo scientific language. He speaks in general maxims, refuses to talk anything concrete. If you oppose him, he will say oh I actually didnt say that, and he is right because he doesnt say anything. He talks in generals and lets individuals feel the void, often that void that people fill is dumb shit.Lets not even go about his knowledge of postmodernism and marxism which he has literally no idea what he is talking about. Also the idea of cultural marxism that he is promoting is Nazi propaganda used against jews. His knowledge is fucking conspiracy level propaganda. Also he praises Niche while promoting traditional christian values. He is either an idiot or dishonest when it comes to politics. And his cult following speaks about the level of education we are at.

      Khal Drogo very extreme, black and white conclusions you’ve drawn about him. While he’s no where close to perfect, I think you’re stuck in a left-brain trap of seeing the world as divided parts rather than it’s whole. However you want to categorize his metaphorical style of teaching, to ignore the positive impact he’s had in today’s political landscape is naive.

An idioms dictionary for the perusal of everyone working on this. I have established "fossil fuels" could mean something else, for example... I have established "car" can mean something else. I need to know what every single thing means :)))

    These are discussions that have been going on for over millenials and still missing it's main component to qualify it all to acquire True Knowledge of mankind's existence while referring to "The SOUL" as of marginal importance in the structure of existence. Can only be that "TRUE KNOWLEDGE" was never the goal, especially when ignoring the achievements of the reaches of the EGYPTIAN'S "Schools of Higher Learning" that now is known as a particular version of the "OCCULT" hardly EVER mentioned is casual references to the genre. This is more shuffling of profound superficiality to validate well structured ignorance that dominate today's "Academic" world. Much like manipulating the "Belief Systems" to solidify the ignorance about GOD and uplift GODLESSNESS, the goal of the nefarious reasons for the manipulations of the Belief Systems. Only the multiplicity and multiplications of "SINCERE TRUTH SEEKERS" we hope to awaken the minds to grasp the damages of the many millennials of purposeful misguidance.
    Note: "SINCERE TRUTH SEEKERS" are those that TRUSTED DIVINE GUIDANCE and now are introducing the UPDATED SPIRITUAL TEACHINGS (1844-1863), of no use to compromised minds.

    But do watch what I do, by all means, as this could also be a business proposal meant at myself... or others. This could become a very fruitful version of a Game Theoretical Censorship Strategy. It is not Marxism, not at all. It is Systems Design, dear sir. Closest thing I do know is there exist a Russian gentleman doing heavy research on Voting Policies at the University of Auckland, in the Math Department.
