@techburnsca I wonder how that looks compared to other TV news outlets? Those aren't great numbers, but I like the idea of a news source that isn't beholden to ratings or advertisers. There have been too many stories killed because it would cast a sponsor in a bad light. CBC can criticize the govt all they want, and its funding is still guaranteed.

The CBC is part of my heritage. I grew up with Radio Canada. The CBC safeguards our Canadian identity. I wish that the CBC would be fully funded, meaning no advertisements. It’s shocking how much junk food advertisements are targeting children. Canada, we can do better. Support the CBC.
While I was on accommodation I was sent home saying they will pay me from workers compensation fund They didn’t pay me nothing rather they terminated me wrongfully Even WSIB agreed with me

@firefly4f4 Hard agree. With local press all but gone, CBC is about as close to a free press as we have left. Having a news source that's funding is guaranteed regardless of journalistic pursuit is essential to free society.
Relying solely on corporate media gets us Monsanto stories hushed, and people thinking that buying insurance across state lines isn't so that insurance companies can relocate to low tax areas and bolster profits.

They're ignoring the fact that news being beholden to ratings generates a conflict of interest.
That’s a much better scenario than a conflict of interests with your government.
@GundamDakz It would be except much like the BBC their funding is guaranteed regardless of how critical they are of the govt. Plus, we have all the other sources to fall back on as well.
A few years back, a couple of journalists lost their jobs because they were following a lead on Monsanto that the affiliate tried to bury. Ideally, I think we need sources of news that are not beholden to advertisers or ratings.
IMHO, private interest should be out of govt (or elected officials should have to wear their affiliations like Nascar drivers), and the free press should have carte blance to keep both honest.
@GundamDakz Also I meant to add, are their figures about CBC as a whole or just news coverage. Because I'd be all for restructuring, but I could never get behind getting rid of the news division.
CURRENTLY, this CBC Corporation is working on a BINDING CONTRACT AGREEMENT which will ensure CONTINUOUS FUNDS from any federal government in power...

As an American who grew watching CBC in Detroit Windsor area, I have always been amazed how so many Canadians fail to realize that they get the majority of their news from a government channel.
It still baffles me. Not that American news is much better but at least there are options.

I stopped watching cbc and have been calling for their defunding, ever since they stopped allowing tax payers to respond to their content. Well over 10 years ago, starting with the comment sections of their website. As a tax payer, I find this 100% unacceptable. Imagine being forced to pay for a meal, being served alpo in a bowl, and then not being allowed to give feedback to the chefs. Infuriating.
