I waited all day to watch this (wanted to make sure I could watch the whole thing) and boy am I glad I did! For me, the sage takes it to another level of goodness! The "video treatment" is the best thing that ever happened to that roast lol. I would pay top dollar for that at a restaurant. Excellent work, Ry! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Ry; nice music in the background and a beautiful rib roast. Your family is in for a treat. I learn so much from these awesome videos. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. After trying a choice prime rib I decided to go all out this time with a usda prime 17 pounder on the GMG with hickory and then sear it on my grill grates with a Weber kettle. Came out delicious. I didn’t think I’d like the end pieces since they are more done, but those “burnt ends” had all the seasoning and crust from the searing and since it was a prime and tender, it was super delicious.
Ry you have a other home run with that killer looking PR!! Man that turned out BEE-U-TIFUL!! Awesome job my friend. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. May the New Year bring you good health, happiness, love and lots of fun times cookin on your grills.😊💗
Oh that looked absolutely perfect and it is absolutely awesome that you did half with salt half without because not a lot of people think about that when it comes to people they can't have as much salt or no salt hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas
@@CookingWithRy ty all of your videos are absolutely awesome but this one here I do believe so far is my favorite video the middle of that prime rib was the perfect medium rare and the best I have seen so far on RUclips you had just rocked this out
My oven failed with a fault code. I got a 16 pound in the refrigerator. Thanks to this video I will still be able to serve this to the family tomorrow. Thanks for all of the tips and details.
Another great video. Thanks for posting all the videos. I've been bbq'ing for some time but keep learning as I watch videos and experiment at home and at the cottage. I love all my various bbq's and my new smoker (newest addition this fall). I always look forward to trying something new. I've never done that big a roast before but will definitely do it in the new year.
Man oh man that looked amazing! My sister and I are doing a prime rib roast this christmas, so Im hoping it turns out just as good as it has in the past.
Like you said about my collards, this is what I wanted to see. We are not that crazy about smoke on a steak or prime rib. I was considering which way to go on a 5-6 pounder. Oven, smoker, grill, and I did think about the gasser just like this. Your cook helped me make up my mind. The PR looked awesome. I know the dinner was great. Thanks for the confirmation and great info. MERRY CHRISTMAS
T’was the cook before Christmas and up on the grill was a tower of prime rib for bellies to fill. The rib racks were hung in the barrel with care, over coals and some hickory baby back and spare. ETC... Merry Christmas RY and all the meatheads out there!
hey rye great prime rib buddy! love your videos. Ive been tasked with cooking a 14 lb prime rib for Easter for my family. I was wondering you said it only took you 5ish hours to cook it on the gas grill would i expect the same amound of time with a slow cook 225 to 250ish on my weber?
Perfect! Just perfect! I only use my gasgrill as a griddle really, but this actually was a great use for one. For me and Helena 16lbs will be on the big side hehe, but for a summer dinner when all the kids come by ...:) Merry Christmas to you and your family Ry!
This looks amazing! Does it matter at all to start the prime rib at room temperature or can it just go on straight out of the refrigerator? Thank you! Cant wait to try this!
You can use a smoker box designed for gas grills. I have also seen people use a foil pouch filled with wood chips and holes punched in it that is placed on a burner, though I've never tried that :)
Any cook is great with Prime Rib! Tasty :) and those ribs can go somewhere else, like my dinner plate - fat and all. I love them... The Fat is where it's at!

Well done Ry. 👍 The video not the meat.😂 I’m cooking mine on the road this year so it will be done in my gas Big Easy. Hopefully it will turn out as good as yours. BTW if I was doing your video that 16 pound roast would have been a 14 pound roast by the time it got to you’re guest. Pit Master Privilege as they say.🐄
Post your au ju method. I've seen some different takes. Also, I'm cooking a 9lb prime rib on Christmas day in the smoker. Can I use the same method with the short side pan? Great cook vid... now I have to get a new gas grill to keep up! 😁
Congrats on the new grill! You can definitely use a shorter sided pan. You may just need to capture some of the juice that accumulates so it doesn't just spill over and get lost. The au jus was made by my bro-in-law so I'll have to ask him for the recipe :)
Often the butcher will cut the bones away to make for easy slicing after cooking, but retie them on the roast to give the beef a base to rest on while cooking.
Hi Ry....i don't understand why u all north Americans use those sticky things (honey, brown sugar, red sauces)on meat instead using only salt &Pepper and rubs...the meat loses its natural taste (notin this video)... i wonder if these prim rib are aged ...Merry Christmas!
Some people enjoy the sweetness added, and I've never found the addition of some brown sugar to detract from the great flavor of the meat. Sometimes salt and pepper is enough, and other times it's nice to toss a couple other flavors into the mix :) And a Merry Christmas to you!
"All North Americans.." Really? You don't know how every American fixes prime rib, just your projected stereotype. Have done prime rib for about 30 years. Use a mix of butter, garlic powder, pepper, grains of paradise, and fresh rosemary.

Used this recipe for Christmas this year and it was fantastic!
That is an absolute gorgeous prime rib 16 pound prime rib that’s what I call fruit of labor well done brother
I used this recipe last year. My family absolutely loved it. As the holidays approach, they have asked for this again.

Yeah the crusty parts are usually a big hit with all that flavor :)
I can say first hand this was AWESOME. Thanks for the leftover bones. We mad a nice beef broth that we have already used for stew.

Yes if the temp will be the same, it should track the time. But plan a little extra to be safe.

I find that it’s mostly on the surface 😊

Personally I usually go straight from the fridge.
Love the video.
Ry Ry season them bones them bones them rib bones. Those are prime rib bones some of the best to eat. Just saying. Loved the video.
Oh, those were going to a nice home, I promise you :)
Lol at the forgotten glove! We all have done it!! Massive piece of meat!!
Haha! I had to leave that in :)
Ry great video, if you wanted to ad a little smoke how would you do it on the gas grill........Merry Christmas!!!!
You can use a smoker box designed for gas grills. I have also seen people use a foil pouch filled with wood chips and holes punched in it that is placed on a burner, though I've never tried that :)
Thank so much, I will give it a try.........
How long was your cook time for the prime rib to reach 130F?
Sorry i just saw the total cook time 5.5 hours. Thanks! Will try this method this Saturday chief!
Wow, looks awesome! Out of curiosity/ignorance, does the gas grill give it a different taste compared to an oven cook?
I really don’t think so without the addition of smoke :)
So hungry watching this, going to fire up the BBQ soon and attempt!
Any cook is great with Prime Rib! Tasty :) and those ribs can go somewhere else, like my dinner plate - fat and all. I love them... The Fat is where it's at!
Yeah, those were spoken for by my brother in law who was going to do something delicious with them :)
When the meat separated from the bone...I heard angels sing.
Unfortunately, my microphone didn't pick that up :)
I have a 3 burner grill how do you recommend me cooking
I’d try one burner on high with the other 2 off and adjust the flame as necessary
I wanted to see how you made the au jus
Do u have the video for the oju sauce anywhere?
I don’t.
Great video, We’re doing a 5lb roast on the grill following your rub/salt. Wish I luck 🤞

How did you prepare the onion+celery+carrots+chives after the Prime Rib was done?
I believe we used the vegetables and the broth to make an au jus for the Prime Rib :)
Thank you. Suggest a video continuation on the au jus =)
Next time toast your seasonings in the oven it changes the flavors from going just from a container to the meat and cooking just a idea..
I've done that before, and it sure does open up those flavors :)
What is the grill heated at. Low, medium, high?
I was aiming for 225-250 on the grill, so your burner settings will need to be adjusted for that :)
@@CookingWithRy thank you!
how can the seasoning penetrate all the way into the center of such a thick cut of meat? is it bland in the middle?
The center had great flavor :)
In the fridge covered, or no?
Uncovered :)
Why the string around it?
Often the butcher will cut the bones away to make for easy slicing after cooking, but retie them on the roast to give the beef a base to rest on while cooking.
How long was the cook time I'm trying to do a 20 ib
If I didn't say it in the video I didn't track it since I was cooking to a desired temperature, not time.
How many pounds is that mean?
Using a gas grill...that's like committing a sin..just joking. looks tasty.
Have to show the gas grill some love occasionally :)
