Really, it depends on the vicinity exposure and the habits of using the language consistently can impact on how a person can use it casually. Although it's a good thing to learn different languages in the early age but if it's not consistently taught until adulthood, it would easily be forgotten. Depends on the person.

Ang kuya ko at asawa niya, Inggles ang unang itinuro sa apat na anak kaya hirap na hirap ang mga bata sa asignaturang Filipino sa eskwela. Galing ako sa isang simpleng pamilya. Hindi kami mayaman pero mayaman ang bahay namin sa mga libro. Mga magulang ko ay edukado at bihasa din sa Inggles pero hindi nila ako pinilit ni minsan na kabisahin una ang Inggles. Kapampangan ang gamit namin na lenggwahe sa bahay. Pero bata pa lang ako ay mahilig na akong magbasa kaya mas naging mabilis ang pagkabihasa ko sa Inggles lalo na noong ako'y pumapasok na sa eskwela dahil magagaling ang mga maestra namin sa Inggles. At kahit na nangunguna ako lagi sa asignaturang Inggles sa eskwela, nangunguna din ako sa asignaturang Filipino mula elementarya hanggang kolehiyo. Sa ngayon, masasabing bihasa din ako sa dalawa pang banyagang lenggwahe bukod sa Inggles. Kaya sa mga magulang dito o tumatayong gabay ng isang bata, sana ay turuan muna natin silang maging bihasa sa sarili nating wika. Kung hindi, baka lalong mapadali ang pagkawala nito ayon sa mga eksperto. Isa pa, lalo na kung dito sa Pilipinas nakatira, dapat lang na unahin alamin at kabisahin ang sariling wika. Para sa akin, mas napadali ako matuto ng Inggles o ano pang wikang banyaga dahil kabisa ko ang sarili kong wika. Iyong mga accents, natututunan at nadedevelop din naman iyan over time. Ang natural na accent ko ay may pagka-British. Basta na lang na naging ganito, wala ako ginaya, mga maestra ko sa eskwela ang nakapansin. Mas nahasa ang accent na ito noong ako'y nagtrabaho sa Inglaterra. At masasabi din na may general US accent ako dahil nalagi din ako ng madaming taon sa Estados Unidos. Heto pala ang aking mga suhestyon base sa aking mga naging karanasan kung paano mahasa o maging fluent sa Inggles: (i) passion o matinding pagnanasa na matuto (noong bata ako, may mga kalaro akong mga banyagang bata kaya pinilit ko mag-Inggles kahit bali-bali para makahiram ako ng mga laruan nila); (ii) seryosohin ang asignaturang Inggles sa eskwela; (iii) isapuso at isaisip ang mga pundamental na panuto sa balarilang Inggles/English grammar lalo na iyong mga panuto sa subject-verb agreement; (iv) magbasa ng panitikang Inggles lagi lalo na yun mga klasikong nobela (by: Jane Austen; Charles Dickens; Bronte sisters; Dostoyevsky; Conrad; Dumas; Hugo; Shelley; Woolf; Buck; et al.). (v) ilista ang mga salita o parirala o pangungusap na interesante o matalinghaga; (vi) gamitin agad sa pangungusap ang mga natutunang banyagang salita o parirala (vii) makipagusap lagi sa taong marunong sa banyagang wika; at ang last resort---(viii) manirahan sa banyagang bansa kung saan ginagamit ang wikang ito dahil mapipilitan ka talagang maging bihasa sa wikang banyaga sa sitwasyong ito.
May apo ako sa pamangkin hindi tinuturuan kasi parents never speak english sa bahay nila. Nalaman ko sa panonood ng tv. Yong accent pagkakamalan mo ng foreigner....kaso nahihirapan niya yong Filipino pero unti2 niyang natutunan na. Though it's important din na we learn English for us to gain more opportunities in the real world pero it's also important to give emphasis sa ating sariling wika. We must make sure that we preserve our language because it's part of our identity as Filipinos. Hopefully we also encourage other foreign people to get to learn Filipino, kaya I find it amazing kapag may mga foreign nationals who really make an effort na aralin ang sarili natin wika. I also discovered many foreigners who study Tagalog songs. Amazing! At dun mo makikita na maganda lahat ng lengguahe. Walang mas nakaka-angat. Every language is beautiful.
I agree. We live abroad but we teach our kids our native dialect. Kaya nagulat ako nung umuwi kmi last time, when I saw my cousins kids speaks English rather than the local dialect. Nakakalungkot lng minsan mas alam pa nila ang English kaysa sariling wika natin.
@@christinemanejero8923 Wow that's good to know po. I also heard na many Filipinos pa nga abroad tend to "forget" the language kahit na nasa early teens na sila nag-migrate. Kindda sad po. Colonial mentality is still prevalent unfortunately. It doesn't mean we speak English doesn't mean we don't love our language. Actually we have an advantage kasi we can share our language to other people. Like with my Korean students before, kahit na 3 months lang sila dito, somehow they learn some Filipino expressions kasi I share it with them. Nakakatuwa kasi very interested sila. Syempre like us, it's added skill if we speak another language.
I'm from Este/Eastern Samar. I'm from Borongan and balangkayan is just an hours away. Majority of kids here can speak English. Even in the Barangays and I'm really happy that they're being appreciated❤️ kids here can speak Waray-waray, English and Tagalog.
I'm also from Samar! I agree with you. Most of us here speak English, which we learned both in school and through daily conversations. It's incredible that despite having different dialects like Cebuano, Waray, Tagalog, Ilonggo, Kinaray-a, etc., we can communicate with each other. I mention this to emphasize the diverse linguistic abilities of Samar kids. That's why, starting from elementary school, we've been taught and encouraged to practice English through regular class conversations. I'm not saying that the majority can speak, but I can say that almost all kids at school, whether public or private, are proficient in English.

Ako nga matagal na ako rito sa America kinamatis pa rin ang English ko pero hanga pa rin ang mga ka coworkers ko na Americano kasi sabi nila magaling ako mag salita nang English.Natutuwa talaga ako sa mga batang Pinoy na magaling mag salita nang English, di ba cute pakinggan. Ang exposure sa iba ibang culture helps, English is my first language, then tagalog, conversational Japanese and proud to say flawless ako mag aklanon. Just blessed that I am half japanese, pinoy ang tatay was born in Japan with exposure to Americans where my father used to work for the military US base and I attended school in the Philippines. I am very proud of my Aklanon dialect skill which I use to include in my resume and it becomes a part of the interview :)
I'm proud to say that me and my brother are fluent in English even if we were not brought up to speak as such. This is the reason why I do not believe that bringing up my kids that way could help develop their intellect. It would always depend on how you nurture and support them. Also there is always a risk for them to learn and appreciate their mother tongue as they grow up which could give the difficulty of them being able to interact with children of their age.
It is said that the more languages you learn and speak in your early age other than your mother tongue language, the more your brain gets rewired and think clearer on logical aspects because it rearranges every time you speak to that language with different rules of writing or speaking. No wonder linguistics is one of the major types of intelligences

I feel like we should normalize hearing people speak english in our country. I grew up the same way and I always had people saying mean things just beacuse of it. Teach your children how to speak more than one language and they will thank you someday.
While i think its great to teach kids english i still find it important to at least develop fluency of their native language. My tagalog is fluent but its still a bit wonky bc i grew up speaking english and I empathize w those in similar situations bc making friends / filipino subjects can get hard.
As a kid, I used to speak English like this. I was even the announcer for my school's events for many years. In my own house, I was speaking mostly english, but outside the house, people did not like it. People thought I was a pompous rich brat. They ridiculed me because I spoke english. I could speak my native language very well but I just preferred using english during that time. Gradually, I learned to not use english when speaking to other people in public. It affected me mentally to the point where I would get unreasonably mad when I hear a cebuano child speak english in public. I get mad because; 1.they sound like rich pompous brats. 2. I wasn't allowed to do that, so why are THEY allowed? Is it ok to do that now? Sorry for the rant, but it's been bottled up inside me for 17 years.
STOP THE MINDSET na pag ang pilipino nag english kinakalimutan na nila yung language, kinakahiya or kinakalimutan nila yung nation nila. English is important that we should normalize in Philippines and to pilipinos. It is important to the point that we might need it someday to express our point or to understand something. English is for everybody. You don’t have to be rich, educated, or foreign just to have the right to speak in English. 💯

It's truly beneficial for children at a very young age to develop speaking skills and love for learning. To have early grasp of speaking abilities, that is to introduce them to such environment (at home) where 2 languages beside their mother tongue (Pilipino, Chinese or or any dialect) is spoken. Acc. to research, a child's brain is wired even as a toddler (then say, 3-5 yrs.old) can learn 2-3 languages. In some Asian culture, I met a Singaporean family (parents of Chinese descent) whose 4-yr. child can communicate fairly well in Chinese (Mandarin), English and Malay (due to his baby-sitter who speaks Malay) as well as his own mother who is Chinese-Malay. The kid's parents mostly converse in Mandarin (plus their relatives). Parents also talk to their young kid in English since he already goes to an international nursery school. Aside from learning other languages or dialects, they easily adapts to English language from watching English educational/interactive videos or cartoons and thru reading English children's books.

We always say love your mother tongue but the fact is having good command of the English language always gives you an advantage especially in school and in the corporate world. Pwera na lang kung artista ka, mas preferred pa rin ng tao yung nagta Tagalog.
Don't TEACH. Talk to them like it's part of daily conversation. Just tell them what it means. My 4 year old nephew every now and then inserts Tagalog words while talking to us. He knows what they mean. You cannot actually let them hear "ADULT WORDS" because they HEAR and REPEAT

@@YYC403NOYP I do speak to them in Bisaya since they were born so they both can understand Bisaya pretty well, the problem is they don’t speak it, thus the teaching part. I think even the “adult” words, so that’s why we have to speak in Tagalog if we don’t want them to understand LOL

Very good! Exposing children with English language would be their advantage in future. I am working in an English speaking country and it was hard when I started. Now, I feel bad for new migrant workers who stutter when speaking in English because locals could be impatient at times. Please expose them in English. Tagalog is brilliant but English would be a great tool for international relations.

Lalo pa sila nag improve dahil sa foreign kids sila pina upo sa classroom para daw may translator and/or maka participate ang foreign kids sa ibang kids rin. Nosebleed si nanay/mommy although business management graduate at exposed sa sales with foreign boss and clients. Taglish si mommy, daddy sanay at mga kids fluent with english (British/US accents). Hindi tinuruan ng magulang, at wala pang titser sa family namin. Matataas ang grade sa school maliban sa Pilipino subject but they speak taglish at home and with playmates.

This is good language learning for the kids. Just take note it is just a language. Student's still need to have good reading comprehension, math skills, science skills and other skills they can learn from other important subjects.
Math is really important to be honest. You can speak but when it comes to solving math problems you need to use analytical skills in order to get the solutions.
Wala naman masamang mag-ingles as long as na may matutunan ng mga bata, pero hwag sanang kalimutan ang wikang Pilipino dahil nakakasira ang ating pagbigkas ng wikang Pilipino, at tandaan natin na iisa lang ang ating wika dito sa bansa. Mag-iingles o kahit anong linguwahe lang mga tao kung may kinausap na dayuhan o kahit na ano as long as may Pilipinong interpreter(translator) para magkaintindihan tayo.

Growing up, it's either we speak in Cebuano or English so Tagalog is really challenging for me. I can understand some words but when someone asks in Tagalog, automatically I'd reply in English and people would give me that look. Maybe they're thinking I look very Filipino, I live in the Phils but can't speak or have a hard time understanding Tagalog? I dunno lol
@@lasttime500 I can quickly glance at an english sentence and understand it in no time at all, while with Tagalog, I really need to focus on each word in a sentence. Reading tagalog/filipino is exhausting for me haha.

They're so adorable & smart kids. I learned English Lanugauge at the Elementary in the place weren't using Tagalog Language in Mindanao way back in 70's. Cebuhano is the dialect but only English allowed at the classroom except when it comes to Filipino subject. There's a time when I was at third grade our teacher every time she goes for the teachers meeting she always put me in charge at the classroom, so I stated making a prpgram inside. The School it was in Baligian School in Mindanao.
@@paulemboy6066 Well, that was back then in 70's all of Filipino were spoken Cebuhano outside except inside the classroom prohibited, I didn't know afterwards because my parents travel far away in Nothern Samar when I was 13 yrs old, then it's a Waray dialect only for a short time over there. Internationally Cebuhano isn't listed as a Language, but Spanish yes it's a Language. Me habla spanish poketo. I've been to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, another trip in Guadalajara Mexico last 1993.

The point is Cebuhano is mix with Spanish words from Cebu to Butuan City even to where Lake Maint area but not to go to Surigao because it will be a Suriganon. I guess if it all Spanish words no mix Cebuhano or another dialect etc then maybe it's concedering Spanish language for sure. But you know it's country it has a language on its own. In that country is Tagalog. I may right? For example you go to Japan then the language is Japanese that's thier language, then In Vietnam is Vetnamise language there are only example. Really, it depends on the vicinity exposure and the habits of using the language consistently can impact on how a person can use it casually. Although it's a good thing to learn different languages in the early age but if it's not consistently taught until adulthood, it would easily be forgotten. Depends on the person.

Napakacute at charming ng mga bata. Napanood namin ito ng 7 y/o ko noong Linggo. Sana ay matupad lahat ng pangarap nila sa paglaki nila. At talaga naman na magagamit ang Inggles sa maraming bagay at ako mismo ay mapapatunayan yan. Pero sana sariling inang wika ang atin muna unahin mahalin at kabisahin. Ang kuya ko at asawa niya, Inggles ang unang itinuro sa apat na anak kaya hirap na hirap ang mga bata sa asignaturang Filipino sa eskwela. Galing ako sa isang simpleng pamilya. Hindi kami mayaman pero mayaman ang bahay namin sa mga libro. Mga magulang ko ay edukado at bihasa din sa Inggles pero hindi nila ako pinilit ni minsan na kabisahin una ang Inggles. Kapampangan ang gamit namin na lenggwahe sa bahay. Pero bata pa lang ako ay mahilig na akong magbasa kaya mas naging mabilis ang pagkabihasa ko sa Inggles lalo na noong ako'y pumapasok na sa eskwela dahil magagaling ang mga maestra namin sa Inggles. At kahit na nangunguna ako lagi sa asignaturang Inggles sa eskwela, nangunguna din ako sa asignaturang Filipino mula elementarya hanggang kolehiyo. Sa ngayon, masasabing bihasa din ako sa dalawa pang banyagang lenggwahe bukod sa Inggles. Kaya sa mga magulang dito o tumatayong gabay ng isang bata, sana ay turuan muna natin silang maging bihasa sa sarili nating wika. Kung hindi, baka lalong mapadali ang pagkawala nito ayon sa mga eksperto. Isa pa, lalo na kung dito sa Pilipinas nakatira, dapat lang na unahin alamin at kabisahin ang sariling wika. Para sa akin, mas napadali ako matuto ng Inggles o ano pang wikang banyaga dahil kabisa ko ang sarili kong wika. Iyong mga accents, natututunan at nadedevelop din naman iyan over time. Ang natural na accent ko ay may pagka-British. Basta na lang na naging ganito, wala ako ginaya, mga maestra ko sa eskwela ang nakapansin. Mas nahasa ang accent na ito noong ako'y nagtrabaho sa Inglaterra. At masasabi din na may general US accent ako dahil nalagi din ako ng madaming taon sa Estados Unidos. Heto pala ang aking mga suhestyon base sa aking mga naging karanasan kung paano mahasa o maging fluent sa Inggles: (i) passion o matinding pagnanasa na matuto (noong bata ako, may mga kalaro akong mga banyagang bata kaya pinilit ko mag-Inggles kahit bali-bali para makahiram ako ng mga laruan nila); (ii) seryosohin ang asignaturang Inggles sa eskwela; (iii) isapuso at isaisip ang mga pundamental na panuto sa balarilang Inggles/English grammar lalo na iyong mga panuto sa subject-verb agreement; (iv) magbasa ng panitikang Inggles lagi lalo na yun mga klasikong nobela (by: Jane Austen; Charles Dickens; Bronte sisters; Dostoyevsky; Conrad; Dumas; Hugo; Shelley; Woolf; Buck; et al.). (v) ilista ang mga salita o parirala o pangungusap na interesante o matalinghaga; (vi) gamitin agad sa pangungusap ang mga natutunang banyagang salita o parirala (vii) makipagusap lagi sa taong marunong sa banyagang wika; at ang last resort---(viii) manirahan sa banyagang bansa kung saan ginagamit ang wikang ito dahil mapipilitan ka talagang maging bihasa sa wikang banyaga sa sitwasyong ito.

Though it's important din na we learn English for us to gain more opportunities in the real world pero it's also important to give emphasis sa ating sariling wika. We must make sure that we preserve our language because it's part of our identity as Filipinos. Hopefully we also encourage other foreign people to get to learn Filipino, kaya I find it amazing kapag may mga foreign nationals who really make an effort na aralin ang sarili natin wika.

Colonial mentality is still prevalent unfortunately. It doesn't mean we speak English doesn't mean we don't love our language. Actually we have an advantage kasi we can share our language to other people. I'm from Este/Eastern Samar. I'm from Borongan and balangkayan is just an hours away. Majority of kids here can speak English. Even in the Barangays and I'm really happy that they're being appreciated❤️ kids here can speak Waray-waray, English and Tagalog.

I'm also from Samar! I agree with you. Most of us here speak English, which we learned both in school and through daily conversations. It's incredible that despite having different dialects like Cebuano, Waray, Tagalog, Ilonggo, Kinaray-a, etc., we can communicate with each other. I mention this to emphasize the diverse linguistic abilities of Samar kids. That's why, starting from elementary school, we've been taught and encouraged to practice English through regular class conversations. I'm not saying that the majority can speak, but I can say that almost all kids at school, whether public or private, are proficient in English.

Ang exposure sa iba ibang culture helps, English is my first language, then tagalog, conversational Japanese and proud to say flawless ako mag aklanon. Just blessed that I am half japanese, pinoy ang tatay was born in Japan with exposure to Americans where my father used to work for the military US base and I attended school in the Philippines. I am very proud of my Aklanon dialect skill which I use to include in my resume and it becomes a part of the interview :)

I'm proud to say that me and my brother are fluent in English even if we were not brought up to speak as such. This is the reason why I do not believe that bringing up my kids that way could help develop their intellect. It would always depend on how you nurture and support them. Also there is always a risk for them to learn and appreciate their mother tongue as they grow up which could give the difficulty of them being able to interact with children of their age.

I feel like we should normalize hearing people speak english in our country. I grew up the same way and I always had people saying mean things just beacuse of it. Teach your children how to speak more than one language and they will thank you someday.

While i think its great to teach kids english i still find it important to at least develop fluency of their native language. My tagalog is fluent but its still a bit wonky bc i grew up speaking english and I empathize w those in similar situations bc making friends / filipino subjects can get hard.
As a kid, I used to speak English like this. I was even the announcer for my school's events for many years. In my own house, I was speaking mostly english, but outside the house, people did not like it.
People thought I was a pompous rich brat. They ridiculed me because I spoke english. I could speak my native language very well but I just preferred using english during that time.
Gradually, I learned to not use english when speaking to other people in public. It affected me mentally to the point where I would get unreasonably mad when I hear a cebuano child speak english in public. I get mad because; 1.they sound like rich pompous brats.
2. I wasn't allowed to do that, so why are THEY allowed? Is it ok to do that now?
Sorry for the rant, but it's been bottled up inside me for 17 years.
STOP THE MINDSET na pag ang pilipino nag english kinakalimutan na nila yung language, kinakahiya or kinakalimutan nila yung nation nila. English is important that we should normalize in Philippines and to pilipinos. It is important to the point that we might need it someday to express our point or to understand something. It's truly beneficial for children at a very young age to develop speaking skills and love for learning. To have early grasp of speaking abilities, that is to introduce them to such environment (at home) where 2 languages beside their mother tongue (Pilipino, Chinese or or any dialect) is spoken. Acc. to research, a child's brain is wired even as a toddler (then say, 3-5 yrs.old) can learn 2-3 languages. In some Asian culture, I met a Singaporean family (parents of Chinese descent) whose 4-yr. child can communicate fairly well in Chinese (Mandarin), English and Malay (due to his baby-sitter who speaks Malay) as well as his own mother who is Chinese-Malay. The kid's parents mostly converse in Mandarin (plus their relatives). Parents also talk to their young kid in English since he already goes to an international nursery school. Aside from learning other languages or dialects, they easily adapts to English language from watching English educational/interactive videos or cartoons and thru reading English children's books.

We always say love your mother tongue but the fact is having good command of the English language always gives you an advantage especially in school and in the corporate world. Pwera na lang kung artista ka, mas preferred pa rin ng tao yung nagta Tagalog.

Don't TEACH. Talk to them like it's part of daily conversation. Just tell them what it means. My 4 year old nephew every now and then inserts Tagalog words while talking to us. He knows what they mean. You cannot actually let them hear "ADULT WORDS" because they HEAR and REPEAT

Very good! Exposing children with English language would be their advantage in future. I am working in an English speaking country and it was hard when I started. Now, I feel bad for new migrant workers who stutter when speaking in English because locals could be impatient at times. Please expose them in English. Tagalog is brilliant but English would be a great tool for international relations.

Ganyan mga apo ko. Natuto sa childrens movies and cartoons with foreign accents from TV. My grandson and grand daughter speaks fluent english but different accents. Lalo pa sila nag improve dahil sa foreign kids sila pina upo sa classroom para daw may translator and/or maka participate ang foreign kids sa ibang kids rin.
Nosebleed si nanay/mommy although business management graduate at exposed sa sales with foreign boss and clients. Taglish si mommy, daddy sanay at mga kids fluent with english (British/US accents). Hindi tinuruan ng magulang, at wala pang titser sa family namin. Matataas ang grade sa school maliban sa Pilipino subject but they speak taglish at home and with playmates.

This is good language learning for the kids. Just take note it is just a language. Student's still need to have good reading comprehension, math skills, science skills and other skills they can learn from other important subjects.
Math is really important to be honest. You can speak but when it comes to solving math problems you need to use analytical skills in order to get the solutions.
Wala naman masamang mag-ingles as long as na may matutunan ng mga bata, pero hwag sanang kalimutan ang wikang Pilipino dahil nakakasira ang ating pagbigkas ng wikang Pilipino, at tandaan natin na iisa lang ang ating wika dito sa bansa. Growing up, it's either we speak in Cebuano or English so Tagalog is really challenging for me. I can understand some words but when someone asks in Tagalog, automatically I'd reply in English and people would give me that look. Maybe they're thinking I look very Filipino, I live in the Phils but can't speak or have a hard time understanding Tagalog? I dunno lol

@@lasttime500 I can quickly glance at an english sentence and understand it in no time at all, while with Tagalog, I really need to focus on each word in a sentence. Reading tagalog/filipino is exhausting for me haha.
Ayoko maging gnian ang anak ko. Kahit pa nsa ibang bnsa na ako. Mahihirapan sila makihalubilo sa ibang bata at posibleng iwasan. Kahit pa english speaking,. Dpat mapractice at matuto muna xa magsalita ng tagalog bago pa mag english dahil mas un ang gagamitin makipagcommunicate lalo pa at nsa pinas ang bata.
They're so adorable & smart kids. I learned English Lanugauge at the Elementary in the place weren't using Tagalog Language in Mindanao way back in 70's. Cebuhano is the dialect but only English allowed at the classroom except when it comes to Filipino subject. There's a time when I was at third grade our teacher every time she goes for the teachers meeting she always put me in charge at the classroom, so I stated making a prpgram inside. The School it was in Baligian School in Mindanao.
Yes that was the time of FEM when we were in elementary we speak English.

@@paulemboy6066 Well, that was back then in 70's all of Filipino were spoken Cebuhano outside except inside the classroom prohibited, I didn't know afterwards because my parents travel far away in Nothern Samar when I was 13 yrs old, then it's a Waray dialect only for a short time over there. Internationally Cebuhano isn't listed as a Language, but Spanish yes it's a Language. Me habla spanish poketo. I've been to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, another trip in Guadalajara Mexico last 1993.

@@paulemboy6066 For what I knew Philippines country the language is Tagalog. But even this Tagalog is a language but isn't listed in Community College to where I am. The point is Cebuhano is mix with Spanish words from Cebu to Butuan City even to where Lake Maint area but not to go to Surigao because it will be a Suriganon. I guess if it all Spanish words no mix Cebuhano or another dialect etc then maybe it's concedering Spanish language for sure. But you know it's country it has a language on its own. In that country is Tagalog. I may right? For example you go to Japan then the language is Japanese that's thier language, then In Vietnam is Vetnamise language there are only example.
