Beautiful Mercury Montclair. My uncle bought a new 56 Montclair convertible. I remember the day that he brought it home from the dealership. I've always had a soft spot for the 56 Mercury.
1955-57 was a time in automotive history when almost every offering was beautiful. Whether a GM, Ford, or Mopar selection, you couldn't go wrong. As far as this Mercury, well it's a "Ken Car" which equates to a beautifully restored top-of-the-line example. I like the elegance of the green-blue against the black fabric top. This is when the world enjoyed beauty around them. Before we became banal about our surroundings.
Exactly, and these kids act like current cars are better than the invention of bread only because they can shove an unattractive digital touch manuel on it to decrease amount of time off of a digital screen, and increase chance of slaughtering the family
Power windows and power seat on a 56 Merc...extraordinary....always blows me away when I see this...Just so rare except for Caddys of the time....thanks for posting Lou......

@@loucostabile : Thanks for showcasing this Merc, a fine example of a very attractive and coherent model year. A great sign-off to 2020, a horrible year! Best in 2021.
An absolutely beautiful piece of American rolling art & design! It’s almost as if the designers were given carte blanc to do as they wished! Rolling art never ever to be repeated again in the automotive world. Thanks Lou & Ken for another fine example of automotive history!

I had many great times in the old 55 Merc. 292 , driving thousands of miles looking for trout streams, to fly fish. Hit a blind corner one time and rolled the car three times down a pretty steep cliff, the only thing that saved us , was a huge oak tree. We walked until we met a really nice farmer and told him what happened, he got his tractor some chains and pulled us up the cliff , we gave him $10 all we really had except for some gas money. The roof was dented in pretty good and we really couldn't drive it. So Ralf and myself put our backs to it , and managed to pop the roof almost to perfect position except a few small cresses, there was no damage to the sides at all. we checked the oil and anti freeze and it started right up then headed home some 300+ miles. My father just happened to be standing there and there was all kinds of vegetation Debry around the car and the cresses in the roof. He was a mean old sod, so I told him a tree fell on the roof, I think he knew but told me to be careful next time. Couldn't kill that car, it was full of life and treated me well.
@@freddyeltigre2327 great experience, glad no one got hurt. The 50's had great color schemes and it is greatly appreciated that cars like this are restored with the original interiors and in the colors they came in instead of so many greens restored as reds. I always wanted a 57 Bel Air but because of how nice the 55-56 Mercury's were I bought a 55 Mercury Montclair Sun Valley instead because of the style, uniqueness and rarity today of those cars. Had a lot of fun , beating cars that should have beat me, 13.8 in the Quarter at 96MPH. I never forgot those Mercs and wish I still had one. I'm 80 now, but still remember beating the Farmer's 65 stripped Chev 327 350 HP. got him by a fender in the quarter. Monarchs weren't supposed to do that. That's the reason I'm still a Ford man.

Those tri-5 Mercs always looked like the tri-5 Packard’s, or vice versa, the body lines and styling. And the Packard’s had a 352 bigblock in them too, although that Ford 312 Y block wasn’t any slouch, I believe that was originally a Tbird engine anyway.. But, beautiful car regardless there Lou!
The Big M in all its radiant glory! Surely the messenger of the gods delivered nothing but good news in this Montclair. Tired feet? Nope, he’s got the multi-luber to take care of his squeaking joints! Even the trunk liner is top of the line. But I pity the fool who ordered color combo 666 as he most likely lived in Hades.
The janitor at my elementary school in the 1950s drove a 1955 Mercury Medalist 2-door sedan in that dark green color. The cheap model. It looked like a military car.

The spare wheel in the trunk loos like it's out of a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile, which means it won't fit the Mercury. I hope the owner never has a flat and needs his spare. These cars always intrigued me as a kid, especially the eyebrows over the headlights. 55-56 Packards had a similar headlight treatment

Wow another one of Mr. Nagel's awesome cars. Such a nice person he is. I would love to go on one of his tours of his collection of things. That would be fun and informative on the automotive history. That ride along was fun. That car looked like it road nice and heavy and smooth. Loved the hood lines and hood ornament. Those colors were just beautiful as I love two toned cars. I have always loved the Mercury Lincoln Division of Ford Motor Company. All their models have I really liked. The color of this car was for a convertible very cool and refreshing inside and out. Just a outstanding piece of automotive history. Mr. Nagel really has fine and unique units. Thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Steve, High praise for this car :-) "The color of this car was for a convertible very cool and refreshing inside and out." well said. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
these old mercs are rarely seen anymore, but an awesome classic none the less. the color combinations are something never seen anymore like this, to me the vehicle color combos of today are dull, too repetitive, and boring compared to the 50's styling. thanx Lou!

@@loucostabile sure will my friend :) my dad was working on drilling rigs then in western Kansas and eastern Colorado, but lived here in northeast Texas, so that car got a lot of traveling between Garden City KS and TX :)
I had a 55 Monarch 292 which was indestructible ,I was young and beat the hell out of it, and it kept on ticking, traded it in for a 4 dr Monarch ( Canadian) which had a 312 Police interceptor which I turned into a drag car sleeper . 12.5 to 1 Pistons Howard Aluminum rods heads planed 40 thou and a 650 holly duel pumper 3.93 rear end.

Hi Charlie, Happy to read you love this "ART DECO DASH" :-) Happy New Year my Friend, Lou
I remember the Ed Sullivan show was sponsored by Mercury "the big M line"
Thank you for sharing Grant.
Hi Doug, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car, and thank you for sharing your thoughts, Lou
@@loucostabile - thank you Lou and you are mighty welcomed my friend!
Hi Dr Akbar, Enjoy reading the details you see :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou

Full instrumentation is nice. Most cars had gone to idiot lights by 1956, including Cadillac.

Mercs kept the full-instrumentation as late as the mid 60s.

Hi g bridgman, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Yup, 55 and 56 Packards sure do. 55 and 56 Plymouths also had hooded headlights, but they don't look anything like a Packard.
Lou....you must be too young! The kids in the advertising photos aren't playing hide & seek....they're looking at their 'distorted faces' in the contours of the chrome bumpers. I remember doing that in the early fifties as a 5 year old! Great video of an awesome car...thanks!!

I always liked the 55/56 Mercury's. Tho I like the 55/56 Clipper better. The rear end of the Clippers are better styled. Still, these two brands along wth the Packard line look like they were all built on the same production line.
