Riccarton road is something else but it’s such a great part of Christchurch, glad you checked it out. If you go further down past the mall there’s 700 more motels btw 😂.
After the Feb 22 quake, Riccarton became the default city centre, so there has been a pile-on. And those Metro 'shops' are infact glorified bus shelters.
You missed the other side where the food court is and the cinema There's still lots of shops upstairs. Other than that thanks for showing around our beautiful City
I live in Christchurch, been in Dunedin all my life 18-20yrs, moved to Ashburton in 2021, i was there for 10 months then moved to Christchurch 2022 and i absoutely love it here 😊
I have never been to that part of the South Island but Riccarton and the surrounding Christchurch area just seems so peaceful, clean, well organised, compared the shiz stain that is my hometown, Auckland. The petrol prices are shocking. When I used to work in New Zealand, back in 2004, the price of fuel was $1.299/ltr. Here in Adelaide, where I live now, its $1.919/ltr. Just crazy. I better start saving for my electric car. Thanks for the walking tour, Curls. Keep up the good work.
Metro is the bus transportation service, that big metro building you saw was a waiting lounge bascially. Really loving the videos. How long you in chch for? 😊❤
Agree Bargee used to be a place I think, that used to make the most amazing kebabs, like fish and banana, or chicken and banana. After going many years, through the earthquake it closed down after going through Covid I think. Every time we went to Christchurch it was our first port of call. Can anyone tell me what it was called? I still miss that place and the food.
It's not on the outskirts though 😂 it borders the central city. Omg Toms Emporium is great, i go there for haberdashery- they have stuff that the Australian Lincraft and Spotlight stores don't stock, because NZ is the poor cousin of the actual Aussie stores, stock wise. Inspirations is great for crystals, incense and beautiful stuff- its the younger brother of Hetties rock shop. Westfield is avoidable 🤮
I'm sure you must have grown up next to Jeremy Clarkson, because you sound just like him! I find it interesting, how you seem to have embraced NZ fully, yet you come from the UK, which is the most enviable place on earth to live just behind the USA. Unfortunately, I only have a Great Great Grandmother that came from England to Wellington in 1842, so can't even get there on a citizen by descent visa. I am working on a woman in SE London though, that has a nice house there :))
Kia ora. Chtistchurch is the 3rd biggest city in NZ, so I am not too surprised about the number of motels. I wonder if many were used to get people into accommodation down there? I don't feel there is truly everything where you walked. I didn't feel the presence of Maori or Pacific influence where you walked. I don't know if you say any rangatahi, or "kia ora Bro's, tooting or people vibes. I really enjoyed the Pacifika kinds of places you went to where you were greeted warmly. I wonder if going north would change things, or if there are places near there with a bit more spirit from the people. Just wondering. But most of all, I love all the guided tours you do.
@@samarcher6632 Oh ok. I thought Wellington was 2nd. I really like Christchurch. But I have got used to a lot of young fellas calling out to Curls further north.
Absolutely love your enthusiasm Curls. " omg there is a petrol station!" " look at those bricks!" " LUBE!" 😂😂 All jokes aside, life would be such a better place if everyone had this out view on life.
You are cleverly funny Curls. Love your tongue-in-cheek, slightly piss-take of NZ. All done with kindness and charm. 🥰

That’s right. Riccarton was the new “city centre”. It’s still vibrant and busy which is great.
My home town lets go Crusaders Red and Black all day baby

You're still there, I'm back on the North Island now. In Palmerston North. I can't believe I was just 3 blocks from you last week in Christchurch.
night and day is super overpriced, just go to a local dairy or jack's, that'll have everything you need for half the price
Everything you need in Riccarton thanks Curls really enjoyed the tour you crack me up with your conversations 😂
The food courts are at the other end of the mall, there is lots more shops on the upper level as well 😃
Metro is the bus transportation service, that big metro building you saw was a waiting lounge bascially. Really loving the videos. How long you in chch for? 😊❤
If I was to move to chch that's were I would live I like it there that Thai restaurant is excellent and the weekend market is excellent too
Curls, you've done a nice walk in Lower Riccarton, did you go all the way to Upper Riccarton?

You missed so much, the heritage buildings and the river, the University, Drexels
Wouldn't say Riccarton is amazing, bit rough in some aspects. The mall is OK but don't go there on a rainy weekend. like being back in UK lol rammed!
Thanks for the tour it was fascinating and thanks for sharing this video!👍
Hey Curls just wondering if you can please Visit Stewart Island soon.
riccarton road is basically just motels and 2 malls, you only got half way, but it is a 50 minute walk from one end to the other
It's not on the outskirts though 😂 it borders the central city.
