Great video, Michael. I'm someone who uses my S-pen constantly; for me it's an indispensable tool for productive functionality. I use it most with Evernote. Would love to see pocketnow produce a video that is N4/Evernote focused. Two powerful tools that work so well together.
When I finally took the plunge and decided to exchange my galaxy S4 for a Note 3 and I didn't look back. I used the phone normally for around a month, then I rooted and installed cyanogenmod on my Note 3 because I thought that the s-pen wasn't a necessity nor the other Samsung features that I never used on the S4. Amazingly I found myself missing the multi window and S-Notes. I switched back to Samsung's Touchwiz and have been using the S-Pen ever since. From Notes to doodles to using multi windows. I now own a Note 4 and picked it over every other phone because of the s-pen.
Agree, it's the pen that makes this unique. Until other manufacturer's adopt the pen, only Samsung devs work on spen apps. Got to admit they are doing a good job adding to what it can do. Just waiting to see how the Note Edge adds to this device.
Yeah i just got the note 4 a few days ago and love the spen. I had the note 2 before this phone and write stuff down all the time with that. This does even more stuff already love this phone.
That's great how you love and use the s-pen. I like it too but after using the oneplus one I have to say I'd take cyanogenmod over the s-pen myself. I would love to have a close to pure lollipop with on screen buttons UI on the note 4 hardware.
I've always said the S-Pen is what makes the Note line the -best- only device in it's class. Other phones with large displays are just that - phones with large displays. TouchWiz is still a mess if you ask me, but if you're looking for a flagship Samsung device (phone or tablet), it might as well be a Galaxy Note .
TW on Note 4 is way different, its faster. Upgraded from N2 and the difference is huge. Spen is a plus specially on a big screen..makes u do alot more.
Its weird when people say its only for a week. Bro, I cannot go with another brand of phone because I NEED THIS PEN. The pen is mightier than the iphone
Edward_Arzadon /Games/Vlogs/Reviews/ Note 4 isn't a pen, it's a phone. And it doesn't just have a stylus, it has an S Pen which has tons of features. Idiots.
since the note 1 all the way to note3 and that's it.. after that all Samsung have the nsa code in them and want to start saving our data by taking away sd card feature on some devices, Apple iPhone etc has always been stealing data that's why they never ever had sd card features, their sd was iTunes that saves all your data to the cloud you cannot access then updates your device back with a snapshot of your original data. they obviously want the data because it must be interesting to spy on those who want to belong ever so much to society and seem rich even when they are not, these types of users would maybe cut off their arm for an gold or platinum iphone 8 that ain't even out yet rotfl
One thing this video misses is the pen's precision/accuracy. That's really what sets the S-Pen (which is just a rebranded Wacom pen) apart and why a regular passive stylus can never replace it, even if you don't use the hover feature, Samsung apps, or even the pressure sensitivity. Try it for yourself. Buy a cheap $5 stylus and see if you can write small text with it. Spend $50 on a fine-tip stylus and see if there's any improvement. Even a $100 stylus like the Jot Script doesn't work very well. That's because the standard capacitive touchscreen isn't very precise--it doesn't register touch inputs frequently enough to really recognize something like small text. If your handwriting sucks or you can't write small in the first place, you probably won't notice the difference, but if writing quickly and legibly is important to you, it'll make all the difference in the world.
Just got my first Note. I was worried about the size because I'm a pocket, not purse, phone carrier. Yes, it's bigger and a little heavier, but I am pleasantly surprise to report that it fits in all the same pockets that I was using to carry my S4. I bought it because I need the power of a tablet, but in the palm of my hand. The S pen was the feature that sold me this phone, but when I got it home I found that I really had no clue what the S pen can do. THIS video was 7 minutes of GREAT info to get me going! Well worth your time if you're new to Note 4.
He actually left out a lot of stuff surprisingly. There is another tips and tricks vid by some Indian guy and I was in shock of all the stuff he could do that no one else seems to do in their videos.
I was the same way after iPhone 3GS, when iPhone used to make some damn good, innovative smart phones. After I made a switch to Galaxy phones, I've never looked back
I was stuck with an iPod 5 for about 6 months because my phone was complete shit. When I got the Note 4 last weekend, I knew I wouldn't need a new phone for a long time.
I love the s pen on the note 4. The note 4 is actually my first samsung device, previously I only used iOS. I switch primarily for the s pen and milti-window features. Great video on demoing what the pen is capable of!
I just got my Galaxy Note 4 recently and I'm really liking the s pen. I'm only just beginning to discover it's features and its making me more satisfied with my new phone. My favorite use of it is with the swype keyboard. I use it most of the time now instead of my thumbs to type esp when I'm not in a hurry.
This comment might come as a surprise to some, but do you know what makes cigarettes* so attractive to human beings even though everyone knows how hazardous they are to our health? I personally believe it's the fact that they can be held so elegantly in our fingers like a tool and specifically like a pen. There is a tactile pleasure to using a pen. Mankind's fingers are excellent for using slender tools such as writing instruments. The fact that I can use the S-pen to write notes, highlight information, copy it, cut it, paste it, move it around, not to mention to doodle with the pen, make the S-pen the Galaxy Note's most attractive feature to me AND it makes me favour it over other phones. *By the way, please do not misunderstand my comment as a praise of any kind to smoking. I'm categorically against smoking and I'm always baffled when I see supposedly intelligent people smoke.
After a year of owning note 4 , I have decided to learn how to use the s pen! Great video, going to try make a homemade kids book (to practise reading key words) using the s note and s pen. S note app seems better than most other apps out there for story book pdf making so needed to learn how to use the s pen to illustrate!
Love your video on the S pen. I just got my Note 4 and your video was real educational and I found out few hidden advanced features. Again thank you. Keep them coming.
The reason why a lot people don't use the pen after a week or so is because it's not practical to use (since it's not like pen and paper as mentioned in the video) and it's just as fast to open up a notes app and type what you need. This is the second video I've seen that shows off the s-pen and to me it's still a cool gimmick over a must have feature after trying these things out myself. This is one of those things that look way cooler and intuitive on video but not as natural in person. If I could draw I'd probably use it for that but for me the most useful function for the s-pen is playing ds games lol.
I did not think I would use the s-pen very much prior to getting the Note 3. After having the device for over a year, I use the s-pen everyday action memo and general browsing are a pleasure with the s-pen.
Interestingly enough you don't need to worry about that strange, dragging sensation when you use the S Pen. In upgrading from my Note 3 I realized that you can change the Wacom pen nibs that are included, 3 of which are the regular rubber tips while the others are actually a nylon material making for more fluid strokes with less drag much like the variety provided with a regular Wacom art tablet. I wish I had realized this sooner seeing as how I didn't use my Note 3 S pen as much because I hated the feeling of the pen on my screen protector. The nylon nibs are much nicer to use and I will forever make sure I change to them in the future as well.
I actually use the S-Pen quite a bit. I'm constantly having to jot down notes and phone numbers, so it actually saves me a lot of time instead of having to keep a pen on me.
I just bought a used Note 4, like new condition. I don't use the S Pen but with your video I am going to try it out. The Note 4 is an awesome smartphone, but I really should try that S Pen. I have been using it to take screen shots, which it does very well. I pull out the S Pen then use the "Screen Write" to page capture. Thanks for the tips.
thank you much i am a user of the note 2... and frankly I cannot live without the SPen. giving that review on the note 4 made me want to upgrade to it. sad though abt the Note 7... but I'm pretty much sure that Samsung can pull it back up. thanks again.
RED redstar do the upgrade I just went from the note 2 to the note 4 it's a whole world of difference the s pen even works on the soft keys. loved my note 2 that's why I hung onto it for so long but for my own or obvious reasons didn't want the note 5 and the 7 went down in history so I picked up a used note 4 for $260 Australian on ebay the cheapest phone I have ever brought and by far the best. If Samsung stop making notes with expandable memory and changeable batteries then I'll stop using Samsung so at this point I see the note4 as the best possible phone for me and I guess a lot of other people.
Spot on Michael, I have been guilty of neglecting my Note 2 stylus but resolve to make much more use of the Wacom stylus on my Note 4. Good tip-thanks.
I love the note 4 I had a note three and iPhone 6 plus I also had the s6 edge which was a nice phone but major battery issues . I have to say the note 4 for me is the phone to have even over the note 5 because of the sd card in the note 4 and the removable battery also it has the same screen as the 5 . best phone I have used so far .
I used to carry around a notebook to write things down, now I use my note 4 and it works just as well if not better because with S note connected to Evernote I have a copy I can look at on any device without having to move it to another spot. I use my S pen at least 5 times a day. It's what's stopped me from getting any other phone, I'm waiting for the note 6...
Great video. I have the note 4 since Friday, by far the best phone ever made. + the camera is absolutely fantastic. I made some awesome pictures yesterday, also during night time.
Fifty-something... non-techie here... and I splurged for the Note 4 because of the S-Pen! Love it! Was using the Samsung Galaxy S4 before. LOVE the new Note 4 with that S-Pen! Can you tell I really love the S-Pen. :-)) LOL
For the note 5 I hope samsung will add an extra button on the s pen, so when you highlighting or hovering over items you can just select them without making contact with the pen on the screen..
The Note 4 is so tempting. I've never owned a big phone before. Largest was the One M7. Now I'm back on iPhone. Playing with the Note 4 at work though I'm kinda disappointed in its performance. It's not as snappy as I thought it'd be with that 805 chip.
this is what my LG G3 is missing. my perfect smartphone would be, G3 sleek thin bezel body design with the integrated s pen features on the note 4. i always hate it when I have to look for a pen and paper to take a quick important note when on the phone talking to someone
ChrisB10 I'm definitely getting the Note 5 when it releases, I made a mistake of getting the M8.... I like my phone but.... mainly the camera on this phone is noticeably worse comparing it to my cousin's Note 4
The S-Pen is the only reason I am using the Note 3 and considering the Note Pro as a tablet. I have the iPad Air, and I love it. But there isn't a pen on the iOS devices that feels and writes like the Samsung Note S-Pen. If Apple had the S-Pen features, it would make a breaking news, live changing moments kind of press releases and publicity. And the world would be smitten and awed by Apple genius.
With my current Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I use the S Pen the most for taking screenshots - with or without annotation, and sometimes with cropping, too. ;)
FYI: At 6:24 you don't have to squiggle to erase. All you have to do is draw a line through it. Most of it will erase automatically and then you just do a stroke through whatever lines got missed. I've found that the 'undo' button is more tedious than using the eraser, once I understood how the eraser works. It removes lines that are not connected. It takes me all of 2 seconds to remove a ton of stuff.
I'm either going to get the Note 4 or the Note 10.1. I want the 4 because the screen quality looks to be phenomenal and the phone also looks fantastic. However I'm not so sure its smaller screen would be useful taking actual notes. The 10.1 would be more practical but the screen PPI is HALF the 4's!
As a new owner of this little gem, coming from an old outdated HTC Sensation (Pacer car) to a (Rollsroyce) I have to say I am hella Happy! and I appreciate your video and the time you took to make it. #note4bliss Angel from the Bay
Wah, akhirnya saya membeli second handphone ini, dan ternyata masih sangat berguna di tahun 2022 ini, untuk di jadikan handphone ketiga saya, menonton, menulis dengan layar yg sudah Amoled. Thx Note 4.
My Note II S-PEN gets used a lot, but never to draw. I browse the Internet on Web pages set to desktop mode & the phone in landscape. With the little pinpoint stylus, the phone has more tablet versatility, but without the stylus it's just a big phone. I have big hands, so even using the keyboards are easier with the s-pen (imagine being able to SEE the button you're pressing!) My big thing is pulling out the pen to jot notes down during business calls. I don't save them to S-NOTE as I find it awkward retrieving them from there - I just do a quick screen save with the S-PEN, and the notes are in my gallery.
Like he said the Note 4 is more of a pocket computer than a smartphone. I have no intention of getting a Note 4 as it wouldn't fit my needs but goddamn what an incredible device it is. I always thought the S pen was some retarded stylus. The functionality is incredible. I wish other OEM's would experiment with something like this.
That was my overall impression. I don't want a Note 4 because of the size and such. But WOW it's truly an amazing amazing device. Got to play my friends the other day. It's FANTASTIC. If I wanted a phone that size, I'd definitely get a Note.
Great review Michael . but I saw you could pin your note to the home screen , but I cant see I have this option?? on my n4 ?? that's really useful and I would like to do the same lol
The Wacom pen that came my resistive touchscreen HP TX2150 computer works with my Note Edge! Albeit having a slight delay in response but the writing and pressure sensitivity is better (pressing lightly, it is writes a lot less faint than the included S Pen) and my favorite is the TX Wacom pen is shaped like a pencil so it has an eraser on the opposite end (no more having the press undo just erase like you would do an actual pencil would) and works perfectly something the Samsung one doesnt have I am puzzled they havent integrated this feature this deep into the product's cycle, it would be an extra selling point.
When you walk into a room with a note 4, you're the top dog. ......it's one of the classiest phones on the market. ....the most advanced smartphone in the world! .......coming from an s5, this is the best smartphone experience of my life and the s pen is not just a stylus, it's true innovation. ......if u are using a galaxy note 4 you have truly stepped outside the box! Now true enough, apple innovated the smartphone. ....but Samsung has definitely elevated it to a standard that Apple has yet 2 meet. .........Team Sansung Note 4!
Well I had a note 1 and make a big jump to note 4 and I am probably one of the most S Pen user around, it is very useful for me when I need to drop note down in a meeting, recording a meeting and then make references to it. And with note 4 now, it is even more convenient and more efficient for me. Only one downside is that the note 4 apps does not come with windows applications, so it does not allow me to easily exchange files and works between computers offices applications and phone apps. You can get around it but I would prefer to use one applications for all. Another downside is that the minidiary in note 1 no longer exist and it is not downloadable, where my hundreds of diary entries I have in note 1 now just have to be in a archive instead of continue with it..... but overall, the note 4 is a gem and is way better smartphone around
Great video, Michael. I'm someone who uses my S-pen constantly; for me it's an indispensable tool for productive functionality. I use it most with Evernote. Would love to see pocketnow produce a video that is N4/Evernote focused. Two powerful tools that work so well together.
I use mine often too, this note series is in a league of its own.

Agree, it's the pen that makes this unique.
Until other manufacturer's adopt the pen, only Samsung devs work on spen apps.
Got to admit they are doing a good job adding to what it can do.
Just waiting to see how the Note Edge adds to this device.

And how is the iPhone so mighty?
+Bltch Erica Because people who use iPhones have never used the Note 4.
Duh the iphone is mightier than a pen cause it's just a stylus you can just buy a stylus
Edward_Arzadon /Games/Vlogs/Reviews/ Note 4 isn't a pen, it's a phone. And it doesn't just have a stylus, it has an S Pen which has tons of features. Idiots.

I love mine.

Found this today 31 Dec 2016 NZDST. Bought my note 4 in 2014 and still using the S pen.
I'm in love with the stylus!
Preety cool on how Samsung makes everything better
Wait till the Ipen comes out all the Isheep are gonna lose their shit about how innovative Crapple is -_-
LOL
How original...
Alex Wilson Yeah, just like Apple itself.
***** That's a third degree burn right there.
Exactly
The s pen is a beast wouldn't dare trade my new note I've been using this pen everyday pure productivity
I just traded in my iPhone for this Note 4 thing. Let me tell you something after a few days of use...bye, bye, Apple!!!

oxoConstantinEoxo S pen envy :)
Because You know you want one....
If u have it, u would have watching ur phone ady
IMAGINATION
Interestingly enough the S Pen supports scrolling via air view for the Note 3, unlike the Note 4 as you pointed out Michael.
Awesome video! Excited to get a Note 4!
Dang Michael. .thats some picture.. like a model
very impressive lesson for galaxy note users!
Why even consider the iPhone 6 Plus when you have this beast?
The S-Pen is the only reason I am using the Note 3 and considering the Note Pro as a tablet. I have the iPad Air, and I love it. But there isn't a pen on the iOS devices that feels and writes like the Samsung Note S-Pen.
If Apple had the S-Pen features, it would make a breaking news, live changing moments kind of press releases and publicity. And the world would be smitten and awed by Apple genius.
With my current Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I use the S Pen the most for taking screenshots - with or without annotation, and sometimes with cropping, too. ;)
Apple still has nothing on Samsung.
Great video, wrote this with MY S pen
I'm on note 20 Ultra wanted to watch the forefathers of the note series shine! #respecttonote4
My Note 4 is amazing, I love it! Samsung really did an amazing job with it.
Good job, Michael.
I have big hands, so even using the keyboards are easier with the s-pen (imagine being able to SEE the button you're pressing!)
My big thing is pulling out the pen to jot notes down during business calls. I don't save them to S-NOTE as I find it awkward retrieving them from there - I just do a quick screen save with the S-PEN, and the notes are in my gallery.
* dreams of nexus 6 with s-pen *
So which would you like nexus 6 with pen or note 4 google play
nexus 6 with s-pen. looks better than the note 4, has a white version with all black front
if nexus had a S pen then it would be a note 4.
Next Chapter Investments well it wouldn't
Next Chapter Investments nexus 6 also need multi-window....
Yaaaay! This video is very important to me! Being that this is my first ever Note phone! :)
Really waiting for the After the buzz new episode for Note 4.
That's a WARP drive. Nice.
I like the improvement on the S Pen....here hoping that Samsung ports over those improvement to the Note 3
Great and informative video, thanks.
Thank you, finally got the Note 4 and needed this lesson. No help from the store I bought it from. :(
Amazing device and stylus!
Looking pretty good.
Is the note 4 still great to use in 2019?
Yes
It's 2020 and I love my note 4 works fine
Thanks gave some good hints
Like he said the Note 4 is more of a pocket computer than a smartphone. I have no intention of getting a Note 4 as it wouldn't fit my needs but goddamn what an incredible device it is. I always thought the S pen was some retarded stylus. The functionality is incredible. I wish other OEM's would experiment with something like this.
I had a note 3 switched to the LG g3 but will probably get the note 5 when it comes out
That was my overall impression. I don't want a Note 4 because of the size and such. But WOW it's truly an amazing amazing device. Got to play my friends the other day. It's FANTASTIC. If I wanted a phone that size, I'd definitely get a Note.
thereddog223 I also switch a note 3 to g3 but I regretted so I will now switch back to note 4
So, does this pretty much exhaust everything the S-pen can do?
Great vid.. luv my Note 4
Great review Michael . but I saw you could pin your note to the home screen , but I cant see I have this option?? on my n4 ?? that's really useful and I would like to do the same lol
I'm Making this Comment With S-pen
Star Trek kicks ass....Subscribed...
Spectacular...... I don't understand how could people even buy iPhone for the same money when you can get something so versatile like this...
Woop woop
typical samsung fanboy
I 4
I like your delivery and I love my note 4. Somehow I now have duplicates of my contacts. Is there a way to remove the duplicates all at once?
Nice video buddy
***** I am putting mine soon
Good job! The Great review
This makes me want to own a Note!
Michael sure loves Star Trek =P
Lol I didn't kno that my S-pen came with Xtra tips incase of wear down. Jus checked my box and YEP!! I HAV XTRA TIPS! THANX POCKETNOW! ☺😃
This was good for people that never used a phone like the note 4
why you are not reviewing budget phone like lumia 730/735??
still i want a review, because iphone 6 nothing much different than ios and body design.... so why not lumia 730???
And another thing I missed is the 5x4 display setting instead of now 4x4, is just easier to organise when you have a 5x4 display setting...
I bought a note 4 used for $141 and it has slight scratches, I think it's worth it, is it?
joe nodden yes
Very instructive! Did you know that nearly all that functionality is brought to Note 2? Unbelievable? Look out for Nemesis rom for N7100 :D
will they ever bring some of these features to the note 3?
ty Michael!
does no one like the black version? i always see the white version in reviews
