we gotta start somewhere. you are right in what we should aim for but I see a magnet on my truck is better than nothing at all because people will think you are a family member or relative just helping out
I've had the opposite outcome with door hangers, I usually get a call for every 25-30 I put out, but I'm in Louisiana. I'm looking into the truck lettering now, I think you sold me on it. Great info!
Kind of like my old boss telling me he didn’t want a website because it would make the phone ring too much and we would always have to be answering it! True story.
Local marketing. If you do not know what that is it is when people search-search engines like google, bing and yahoo. You also need to know how to how to rank which you can research how to, or hire someone to do it for you. I know how but not so much experience. Can be expensive with needing a website but it can lead you to a lot of money. It is the major way for people trying to find a service they need
Thanks for sharing your marketing ideas. I think flyers are a lazy way of advertising, once I tried it and got more calls from kids wanting a job. When I have an hour between customers, I find a resident close by with a nice car in the driveway and long grass and offer to cut their lawn for free with the expectation that if the job is satisfactory they will call me for weekly cuts. It is a very successful method if I needed more customers.
as far as flyers = lazy goes, obviously you have never put them out before have you ? cause if you had you would never have said that. THERE A BITCH PERIOD ! and we're very successful at it.
When I first started in lawn care, the first five was college students and it started good. Then around mid season I guess they ran out of money because they drop the service. So this season coming up I will only have one and it's because it's in their lease that they hire a lawn care service or they cut the lawn and they work a lot. Now I'm not saying all college students are that way but when are running a new lawn care you need dependable customers.
Hey man. Thanks for the video. It was excellent and very helpful. I just bought my first mower yesterday and I'm ready to go. I got a couple lawns lined-up and getting ready to schedule them for the season. Any tips on creating that schedule?
I'm 17 and I've been doing lawn care for 4 years now. I have a 2013 f150 and a 2013 18ft liberty trailer. I'm only mowing about 10 yards and I want next season to really put me to the next level. I need advise on getting my name out. what could I do with a $1000 budget that will get my name out to as much people as possible? I do have a Facebook page but that's all. no website, no signs, no lettering on truck. I need advise!!
Great video. I'm. Definitely taking your advice on passing out business cards to the neighbors of clients yard I am working at. Also I have heard that knocking on doors is not a good way to advertise. In your experience what do you suggest?
# 1 is your website (bar none ) the most important marketing medium you could use. #2 for me is door hangers/ 4x6 postcards. Knocking on doors also works good. Remember, if you don't have a good web presence , your competition will crush you. If you need one, i can help. send me your info at george@familylawnandlandscape.com and i'll hook you up with my personal guy.
Hello I’m 16 and started my lawn care company in August of last year, I’ve made 2000 dollars so far and I want to acquire some customers this summer how can you get costumers to due repeat lawns.
I cant afford a nice truck right now, but i do have an older chevy that runs just fine but it has some rust on it. I plan to polish it up best i can without using alot of money until i can get enough clients to afford a newer vehicle. Whats your opinion on using what you have if you cant go out and get a nice polished truck for startup?
+ViiV Creations then you do what you gotta do. here's my first suggestion, if it looks bad then park around the other side of the house so they won't see it until it's to late. 2nd you better polish up your salesmanship so that when you talk to them, they fall in love with you. good luck !
ViiV Creations my first truck was trash. It really doesn’t matter. Throw some spray paint and vinyl on it. Make sure you, your team and work make up for it
Lettering on the truck invites local Gestapo to pull you over and ask you for your commercial license, and when you can't produce one you get a ticket to the court room Shuffle!!!!, thats my experience on " lettering on your truck",,,,
I'm pretty much just starting out. I have business cards and post on Craigslist and on fb. most of my jobs, which are few, have been through word of mouth. I also enjoy going door to door. I'm also limited on equipment and money. any suggestions to help me out? would greatly appreciate it and I'm interested in the having own website. thank you.
just google vehicle wraps in your area and you will find several, but shop around for a good price, as well as good quality.make sure they use the sun protection over the wrap, or your ink will fade quickly.
+priceless toxic if only your neighborhood, then i would suggest having 4x6 post cards made from Lady printing. and walking door to door with them. they are cheaper than door hangers .
I love your videos. Thank you for the time and effort you put into them. I have invested several hours of research into my marketing plan for 2017. This year I will spend $1700 on EDDM, and $300 on door hangers. I have determined my target customer, and have found them in my area using public demographic information. 5,000 EDDM Postcards, and 1,000 Door hangers. I am hoping for a 1% return for a 60 customer gain. im projecting to recieve a .75% return on the EDDM and 1.25% on door hangers. Do you think this return is realistic for the lawn care industry? If it works, I'll spend $2000 for an increase in revenue over the 32 week season of $86,400(averaging 45 per weekly lawn account). what do you think my friend?
Eddm worked pretty decent for me - I only got 18 calls for 7,500 flyers, but luckily I landed 2 powerhouse accounts and 4 fertilization accounts. I'm sure I will get 5 - 10 more calls before the season starts
thanks nice video we lose a lot of money advertising iv got most of my customers from one on one talking, and just being on the job doing the best work we can do.
oh man you've got to email me through my website ! Kenneth, i can help you out tremendously.Leave me your phone number and i'll call ! i mean it, i can help take the time and do it, you won't regret it. I PROMISE
I just left ValleyCrest Landscape Maintainence and TruGreen Landcare at $9.00 an hour as a gardener in hopes to begin working for myself as a 1 man, 1 truck operation. I am 23 years old with 2 years commercial landscape experience in the Sacramento area of California. My business name is Moraga Landscape Maintenance and I believe working residential landscape maintenance can make much more than what I have been doing especially as a career, plus the Northern California climate allows for a year round operation with no snow to worry about. Can't make a career out of $9.00 an hour or even $13.00 an hour (Crew Leader's pay rate), especially where I live in the Sacramento area, I see more opportunity working for myself and could use my knowledge/experience to allow my business to grow. A few questions on starting in the industry... 1. A. Advertising -I am going to print out my business cards and fliers, and keep the fliers door to door to a few very nearby neighborhoods including my own, would advertising through the newspaper/newspaper's website (Sacramento Bee) or Craigslist be another great idea? 2. A. How to get I get paid for the job done since the pay method isn't the same as a large commercial landscape company through the regular weekly paychecks? 3. A. I don't have a lot of experience with the mechanics of repairing equipment, would it be best of I took as small motor mechanics class or take the equipment somewhere for repairs? -Cody Moraga
1. The best way to advertise your service is by using the internet. You need a good website and great seo for your site or no one will see it . I can help you with that. I could put you in touch with my personal web guy. I know he is a lot cheaper than most and I know he does really good work.email me and I'll hook you up. 2. news paper ads suck for the most part. 3. You get paid 1/2 down and the other 1/2 after you complete the work. Make sure you have a contract for this work ! 4. your not going to have time to take any classes if you go into biz. for your self. You will have to learn as you go. RUclips videos may help you ?
I think I just got a little discouraged. I have to start out small, $1500 dollar budget w/ no equipment. I have a cargo van full size in great shape...
Thank you for the info sir. I appreciate it. Very helpful. I started my company up this January and looking at getting my first couple of customers. So this video helps a lot. Check out my latest and first lawn care video when you can, I'm also throwing a contest on there for the lawn care community.
G Packard wasn’t trying to be rude. In some areas it works great. What works in the Chicago suburbs might not work in Wisconsin. Even if you just decorate the 16 houses close to an existing customer

knock on doors is the best way but make sure your speech is perfect don't hesitate and be firm on an offer. with the grand? cheap website. And a truck wrap so you advertise yourself 24/7
$1,000 isn't going to get you much. Flyers on the driveway work the best - don't listen to anybody telling you to use home advisor or Angie's list. I passed out 5,000 flyers my 3rd year and I landed 55 accounts in 2 weeks. I got lucky. 3000 flyers got me 23 accts my second yr. One season I passed out 300 flyers and got 2 customers who both spent 10,000 the first year combined. Door knocking takes too fucking long. Sell to your regular customers. Any great salesperson will tell you to sell to your existing base. You will have a much better chance at landing a job with with a regular customer then a new customer. Once you earn a regular customer's trust - you are set. They will hire you and refer you to their friends and family.
There are several tips to think about before you setup a cleaning business are you likely to get help from your family? Are you self-motivated? Will you stick to the plan? Do you have the money to begin? (I learned these and why they work from Quintrell Care Plan website )
I landed a job on advertising for a lawn care company. Thanks for the tips
your welcome bud. good luck with the job man.
Love what you said about flyers and the door hangers taking a lot of time. Like the truck lettering tip too.
Thank you! It took many years of experience to find out what works and don't work!
Yeah I can totally tell by how you talk about it. I took at lot of notes ;)
Some great stuff covered here and some things I had been thinking about. Love it.
awesome , if you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I'm glad your having such good luck with the hangers. cant go wrong with the truck lettering.
Kind of like my old boss telling me he didn’t want a website because it would make the phone ring too much and we would always have to be answering it! True story.
lol
Sounds like good advice. Thank you for sharing.
hey George, just watched a few of your videos, thanks for the helpful tips

Sir when handing out the flyers did your conpany target the houses with lawns front and or back or every single house?
all of them
Need a constant flow of new client to sustain.
Density is what you are after.
so true
Need a 2020 update!👍🏼
Lettering on the truck invites local Gestapo to pull you over and ask you for your commercial license, and when you can't produce one you get a ticket to the court room Shuffle!!!!, thats my experience on " lettering on your truck",,,,
you missed the point completely, so sad
great vid applicable to my teens coaching thx broth
Jamie Butt, glad you enjoyed the video, and yes it is applicable to more than just lawn care businesses.

my advice is to watch all my videos and take notes !
People care about prices and work...I know people with those beat up trucks but they good lawn keepers!
of course they do . but if you want to get ahead in life you need to make changes sometimes
what are the wraps you are talking about how do I find them?
Google wrap on truck, find an advertising business in your area or better Google vehicle wraps for your area.
thanks for the info
QMA CHITX your welcome
Switchrunner23 good advice
just google vehicle wraps in your area and you will find several, but shop around for a good price, as well as good quality.make sure they use the sun protection over the wrap, or your ink will fade quickly.

good for you bro

no problem. I think hangers work everywhere
Business owners demand additional advertising and marketing solutions. The marketplace is so saturated. Don't you think?
i do think it's saturated like, paper ads, newspaper, shoppers guide, t.v. , radio, ppc, you tube, door hangers, business cards, emails, facebook ect.
you saying you didn't start out with a rusty truck and used equipment long hair and dirty?
Cold calling is not the best way and percentage is not high.
THAT IS TRUE
