My mom(Treva) worked their from the late 60's through the seventies.I went their as a child to c all the bands and dance on the huge dance floor I have alot of pictures and autographs of all the old country music stars who played their.Jack star used to go to the grand ole opry on a huge bus and my mom went w them.Great memories.
I enjoyed the video very much, but some facts involving Stompin Tomwere wrong. Stompin Tom Connors had the plank going long before his run at the Horseshoe. That was in fact started at the King George Hotel in Peterborough when he was receiving complaints about wrecking the floor. And his career did not take as a result of playing there, his break and his first big run came at the Maple Leaf in Timmins. It is true though he did have a very successful run at the Horseshoe that resulted in the Across This Land movie...the fist movie I ever saw as a child, and a live album.
I was a regular here between 2000-2004. What a bar! I spent HOURS holding down that pool table as people wrote their names on the blackboard to play next. Here's a story about the pool table for ya: One night, Chad Kroger came in, wrote his name on the board, waited his turn, paid his looney, I broke and ran the table on him - he didn't even get to touch a cue :D He walked out after and I was a "hero" for running the douche out of the bar.
In the mid 60's every long weekend, a group of regulars would gather for the long weekend bus trip to Nashville. Bea Martin would organize the whole thing, and we would be off on those Friday nights headed for Nashville and the Capitol Park Inn (Which is now a parking building). From there, we would head to The Ryman or more likely Tootsies. Tootsie knew most of us by name, and usually took Canadian dollars at par. Some of the best parties happened, and many of the country music stars would end up joining one of our parties, at the Capitol Park. After the bus trips got back to Toronto, everyone would head for "Club 402" which was just a apartment rented by David (Scotty) Greir(sp?) I met my wife of 55 years at one of those parties. Ahhh Good Times
My bandmates and I are honoured to have shared the stage with such legendary musicians... what a fantastic venue, with such a rich history. We performed here just this past May: /watch?v=nYKcD53iCzk
I was in Toronto in 1965 .I saw Bobby Bear and Jim ed Brown ,We were there every Saturdays night. We say a lot of singers ,Not like what you have now. There a lot of garbage now.YOU people that weren't at that time you misted a lot.
