I thought about that again today aswell but my conclusio was, it is not really bc an egg comes out either way, fertilised or not. I mean, the yolk is in fact the egg cell, so the ovum itself, but it comes out the same, whether it' fertilised or not. The fertilisation happens inside the hen, before the shell builds, and the hen's body doesn't distiguish the ejection depending on fertilisation status. Which is what happens in human menstruation, though. Only the infertilised eggs get ejected by removing the superficial endometrium layer and the menstruation is mainly this tissue and blood. The egg is only a very small part of it and you can't even make it out in your period slush... So I wouldn't call a chicken egg a menstruation. I mean, birds per definition can't have a menstruation bc they don't have a uterus, but that aside, I am not even sure I'd call it an equivalent. If anything, I'd say laying an egg is like the birthing process, only it doesn't need to be a viable, fertilised egg. It is like the birthing of an egg cell. If yall wanna think of something weird though, remember that each yolk is a single ovum :) so one cell.
