To express in words how much rage, anger, pain, and grief we collectively experienced that day is beyond my ability. These college-aged kids who are protesting Israel's response to the Hamas situation weren't alive for 9/11.
I watched women and men throw themselves from 100+ story windows to their deaths because, in their minds, was preferable to the impending fire and eventual collapse of the building.
I remember one woman who lept, and her last act of dignity was holding her dress down as she fell. To express in words how much rage, anger, pain, and grief we collectively experienced that day is beyond my ability.
I don't fully agree with how Israel is handling every aspect of their response, but I can sympathize with them because I know what it's like to want so bad retaliation against those who inflict pain and suffering on innocence.
Everyone wants to play a political angle on everything, but everyone picks and chooses when and where to start their personal narratives of events. Whether you agree with one side or another is predicated on how you choose to engage in a historical perspective, go back far enough, and every race, every nationality, and every group has been on the giving or receiving end of the atrocities of human conflict. All while trying to apply the same lense of their personal beliefs or biases of today.
They've stopped learning from the past and using it as a reminder of the sacrifices necessary to understand how we got here today, and instead seek to destroy it.
We will unquestionably poise ourselves to repeat those mistakes of the past if we continue to erase them from the collective conscience.
