Anyone else struggle with an addiction to sugar and sweets? Some studies have shown that sugar can be as addictive as recreational drugs like cocaine (bit.ly/2qw8KSM). Consuming excessive sugar became toxic for me and the best course of action is an elimination diet (everyone is different and this is not necessarily the best course of action for everyone!). In today's video I will discuss foods I am currently eating and some healthy daily habits I am trying to practice. If you have any questions or would like me to film additional videos on this journey of mine, please let me know below! ❤️
itsblitzzz I've been striving to stay away from sugar as well. I'll occasionally have soda or some candy if the opportunity comes up.
I quit sugar 10 days ago and feel so much better! I was having trouble losing baby weight after number 2 and my sugar cravings were out of control! Im down 3lbs and dont feel bloated anymore!
i completely relate with the "cravings" you mentioned. like if i have one candy IMMA GET ANOTHER ONE AT LEAST! lol so ye i trying to stop
itsblitzzz I was really hoping you’d make a “sugar free” video! This is where I struggle the most. I quit soda about seven years ago, but I can’t get rid of sweets 😩
its a true addiction, i'm struggling a lot :((
Thank you for including your irritable mood from earlier in the day! RUclips can sometimes be an overwhelming bombardment of perfect lives, props to being real and honest with your audience about day to day mood hassles!
👽❤️
Yeah hard out, was super refreshing and relateable
I think you have one of the healthiest and most relatable relationships with food that I've seen on RUclips. I know some RUclipsrs hate doing "what I eat in a day videos", but I hope you keep it up. I find they really inspire me to better my diet. I've been a little keto-curious but I don't think it would work for me. I'm vegetarian, too much dairy breaks me out, and I love fruit. The way you're eating right now seems like a good compromise for me!
Thank you for the support!! Keep up the good work! :)
Keto is horrible! Fats makes us fat, carbs are good ❤ i mean good carbs like fruit and veggies ❤ and btw, even chicken breast is fat, all animal products are fat that burden our poor liver. i follow medical medium s advice and my health has been improving. Celery juice is a blessing ❤🙏
My inner hobbit is rejoicing at the thought of second breakfast.
I love that you put the clip in of you snapping at Nick because it was a genuine human moment. We all have times where we snap/behave negatively and it was cool to see you acknowledge that!
Your videos satisfies my aesthetic. I watch your videos not only for content but also for filming style. So much respect for what you’re doing 🦋
Higher protein (veggie) diet has really helped with my sugar intake, I can eat a cookie or piece of chocolate now without eating the box. Also you look amazing, you're glowing!
you should make your own jam! i make it all the time its super easy i just add whatever berries/fruit i want to a pan and cook it down with a little bit of water until it turns to mush then i add chia seeds to it!
Great idea! I have made jam a lot in the past but never without added sugar. I have also never tried with chia seeds but that sounds awesome. We have a peach tree with ripe peaches in our yard and I think I will try it today. Thank you!
itsblitzzz please let us know how it went!
I found out I was pre-diabetic about 3 months ago. I have since been on a keto diet, and I have lowered my blood sugar significantly, completely eliminating carbs and sugar. I feel great! It's scary and life-changing when you get diagnosed as pre-diabetic. It really brings into perspective what you consume on a daily basis.
Julia! Thank you so much. I have literally been struggling with the same issue and have felt especially down about it this very day. I watched your video not thinking I would feel any relief about it, or hear you mention this, but you did! So many people out there give such canned-answers to this problem but I don’t think I have ever heard a more genuine and useful piece of knowledge. I literally felt like you were talking to me and it made me feel a million times better than anything anyone else has said. How are you so genuine?!! I just love the no BS anwers and encouragment. I hope you find a doctor out there as dedicated to the truth as you are!!
Grains, fruit, starchy veggies are all processed as sugar in the body. I was diagnosed type 2, I lowered my A1C back to normal levels. I do meat and low carb veggies.
Although these products certainly contain sugars the way they are processed in the body very differently compared to processed sugars.
Yes lot of things are processed as sugar in our body! Alcohol as well. There are a lot of factors that determine the effect a particular food will have on blood sugar, however, like the fiber content and what other foods are consumed at the same time. Happy to hear you were able to reverse your high blood sugar! Mine is back to the high side of normal as well, several years later.
@@itsblitzzz alcohol is comparable to sugar as it can be derived from it but is mostly metabolized in the brain which is not the case with sugar.
@@uituituituituituit Alcohol is processed MOSTLY by the liver but you are correct that it is also processed by other organs including the brain, pancreas, etc.
I wasn't expecting the kitty ASMR but you know what, here for it. What a precious little cutie ❤
We've been blessed with two videos in two days!! ❤
I really love that you've been talking about your sugar free journey the past month or so because I've been trying go low sugar low carb for my skin and digestive system in particular. I just moved back home after college and found myself over indulging in things I didn't always have access to at school like bagels every morning and ice cream every other night (there's a really great local creamery near me and it's hard to resist especially in the summer). I've found it's actually a lot easier than you'd think to cut back on those things once you become aware of it and focus on finding better alternatives to include in your diet.
I love using cauliflower as a substitute to rice! Thanks for the recipes!
This is such a struggle for me. I am a sugar addict. I have eaten sugar packets when I didn't have some kind of pastry available. I have gotten up at 2:00 in the morning, driven to the store, and gotten some cake or sugar thing to satisfy my craving. Now I am diabetic. When I was diagnosed, my blood glucose was 484 and my A1C was 14.7. I now have to take insulin 4 times each day. Quitting sugar now is a must to save my life. This video is great. Please do a video on the process and what you went through. People do not understand the depths of this addiction and how sugar is in EVERYTHING! Thanks for doing this.
you are my favorite channel everything is so satisfying to watch
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 11 and I have had it for almost 5 years now. It completely changed my life and made me totally change my diet and what I consume on a daily basis. I am really concentrating on totally eliminating processed sugars from my diet at this point because every time I try to have a "small amount" or just a little taste of a dessert I am back in that mindset of constantly craving sugar. I was raised eating very healthy foods, which I am very grateful for, but when I became old enough to make my own food choices I immediately gravitated toward sugar and became addicted to sweets. Eliminating processed sugar for me entirely seems like the only viable solution
*watches this while sitting in bed eating a bag of snickers*
I feel your pain Julia, one day I’ll get to where you are you queen 👑
Quitting sugar is one of the hardest things I have ever done! I have been sugar free now for almost 3 years now and I don't miss it one bit. I totally agree with you on the tastebuds thing like wow
I’m not overweight or diabetic and with the exception of Raw Manuka Honey and fruits i quit processed sugar nine years ago. I know it’s hard, good luck
I could watch you cut vegetables all day lol..
I didn't know how to cut a pineapple, so thank you!
Always so informative, I love this video!! I have always had a sweet tooth and struggled with sugar 😓 It has been better as of late but still a long way to go! Definitely inspiring to take care and really think about what we put into our bodies! ❤️
I'm the same like you with sugar. I'm on a candida diet currently - having started my 5th week now. I'm so happy to have done this. Good luck with your change!
I used to eat sugar like CRAZY, like I would get sugar rushes and even love that feeling, but now if I eat something too sweet I feel sick and it reminds me that I don’t like that much sugar anymore. Diabetes also runs in my family so I’m glad that I have trained myself to avoid sugar. I haven’t cut sugar completely out of my life, but I would be open to try it!
You undoubtedly won’t see this because it’s an older video....I can’t thank you enough for posting about hair loss. I’m 44 and I’ve struggled so severely with hair thinning and receding hair loss in the last few years from polycstic ovarian syndrome and whatever else. Nothing has helped and it’s just devastating since I’ve always had thick and long hair. I also have always had a horrific addiction with sugar. So there’s that. It has come to a close second to a long battle with drugs and alcohol which thankfully are over. Thank you for always addressing what’s important. ❤️
I have a spider in one of my windows, too! It got a fly the other day and I was so proud. I should name it! Love everything pickuplimes posts, she is insta-calming.
If you're looking for something sort of sweet that is low in sugar, even natural sugars, chia pudding is a great way to go! Sweeten with vanilla, cinnamon, liquid stevia, Lily's chocolate, toasted pecans, unsweetened coconut and some berries. Very little sugar that won't spike your insulin but feels like a sweet treat!
great idea and I love chia pudding, will definitely try this! thank you!
@@itsblitzzz I love chia with a can of full fat coconut milk. It's so creamy and the fat gives lots of flavor without needing the help of sugar. I've tried it with almond milk and it's just not as good!
The breakfast seems like a snack! small portion
Sugar and salt cravings are real.
Do you think one day you could do a video on healthy snacks to eat during the day? I work a lot and am always moving around at work. Just curious if you have any recipe ideas :)
yes!!
I can watch your videos all day. You low key snapped on Nick, I said nooooo not my peeps🤣😂😂 love the normalcy of your videos.
I appreciate your authenticity so much.
K Lo👌
watched this at 2am last night barely keeping my eyes open, just to have some motivation to try to quit sugar. you discussing this made me also realise a lot more how unhealthy my current relationship with sugar is. I feel like I have been struggling with food all my life, hence I've never been given a correct image of what a proper diet and eating habits look like. My mom has been bulimic in the past and I feel like she definitely fits Binge eating disorder, Ive always denied having BED (don't want to self diagnose) but lately ive been realising how much negative thoughts and habits I form around food. Thank you for always inspiring and motivating not just me but tons of people to take care of themselves. I love you!
The pitcher plant babies were awesome !
me too! I’ve been only eating natural sugars from fruit & a little bit of honey. excited to see the difference :) also I love how the end of the video showing your last meal is low key asmr
Honey enters the bloodstream at a slower rate than processed sugar. So don't worry so much about naturally occurring sugars its just the processed stuff.
Sugar is definitely an addiction!
Woah. I’ve never been this early to a video before. Amazing work lady! You’re killin it!
This may have been stated previously but you may want to make the distinction of "refined sugars" in the title. Fruits and veggies have natural sugars in them. Good luck on your journey.
I feel this, I can’t just have some sugar once a week, bc I will binge. So I’m trying to eliminate it entirely
I have always struggled with a "sweet tooth" as well. I definitely binge eat carbs when I'm stressed or worried.
I too was diagnosed with prediabetes a few years ago. I am around your age and have always eaten very healthy and exercised regularly. My husband is even thinner than me and has no family history of it and he is also prediabetic... It's so frustrating lol
Amazing video Julia... everything is so real!
Juliaaaa! I’m still so desperately curious about your vegan Caesar recipe! I hope that’s still a part of your diet!
Caitlin Nelson hey! If you are talking about the fancy caesar I have posted on IG a lot in the past, it is still one of my favorite things! I am taking a break from eating it because I make it with candied pecans (cooked with cane sugar), but I am not abstaining from it forever. It is not vegan or even vegetarian because I use Parmesan and it would be difficult to make it quite as tasty with a substitute but it could be done. ❤️
@@itsblitzzz oooh thank you so much for responding! Do you know how far back the post is? I will scour! Cheers to you luv

Since you like doctors and since you are looking to heal your body of a pre-diabetic situation, you may be interested in the book by Dr. Steven Gundry, a renowned cardiac surgeon, called "The Plant Paradox". Since starting his program I went from having a blood glucose reading of 110 to 78.... I hope this will help you in your search for amazing health...
btw - some good plant based substitutes for sugar are inulin and erythritol... If you feel like you would like a yummy lo-carb ice-cream sweetened with erythritol, try Enlightened. It comes in dairy or dairy-free versions...my favorite is the chocolate peanut butter, although peanuts are high lectin and not healthy...If you would like some inulin based chocolates, try Slim Fasts's Caramel Nut Cluster Fat Bombs... delicious! But again, peanuts are not healthy..Julie
Also, Vitamin B12 is just poop... so you can get it easily by eating your garden veggies unwashed... you can get plenty of iron by taking alfalfa powder capsules...I use Dr. Christophers since all of his products come in veggie caps...
And you won't need probiotics if you eat plenty of pre-biotics to feed the healthy gut bugs (probiotics) that are already in your gut... Pre-biotics are fiber found in fibrous veggies and in inulin and erythritol..
Unfortunately, all of the meals you are eating in this video will keep you in a pre-diabetic state... Please read, "The Plant Paradox" to no longer have these health issues...this message is sent to bless your life with great health :)
You are absolutely right! You do know more than doctors regarding your own health...You will be inspired as how to heal yourself, as you well know being Jewish... "Physician, heal thyself"... Personally, I don't ever visit a doctor since I know better than they do about my own body...but I will go once a year to have blood work drawn to get blood tests to verify what I already know... It never hurts to have science confirm that you are on the right track...but never have doctors try to fix you... they don't have more than one nutrition class in med-school so you know how to heal yourself with foods/nutrition better than they do...just let them do the tests...then you fix it...if need be...
Hey Julia . Congratulations for cutting processed sugar, it's a real struggle as it is absolutely everywhere. I'm also a sweet tooth and totally relate to the binge eating. That being said, you should also try to stay away from the rice cakes as they're not actually good you. They have a really high glycemic index, they provoke a high amount of sugar in your blood when digested.
reaaally into investigative music vibes at 3:10
Time to make dinner 😂 This made me hungry girl!! Yum! Everything looks so healthy and yummy
Sugar is absolutely addictive! I kicked it about four months ago and have never felt better.
Yeah, I think it’s much more difficult for people in North America to quit sugar than for us in Europe. Due to strict legislation EU countries make producers be so transparent about their products and regulate that content that it’s easy for the common consumer to make decisions about which product suits best their need by a simple glance at the nutrition table which is simple and easy to understand. And we don’t get the dreaded ”corn syrup” as ingredient which I understand is US’s tongue in cheek way to say ”let’s see how many figure out corn syrup is interchangeable with sugar?” I’ve quit ”sugar” (fizzy drinks, sweets, cakes etc.) cold turkey for about 14 years. I wasn’t that big of a fan of it anyway (though during high school when the school food sucked I’d eat instead two Mars bars and a can of Coke, but I usually disliked cakes). My sugar levels are ok because I eat fruits and vegetables, some bread and of course meat which all of them do contain some levels of sugar. Though there is a difference between sugar from fruits and vegetables and straight one from sugar plants. I do however drink soft drinks from time to time, but only if they are alcoholic. And while I dislike Coke now it goes down good with Jack Daniel’s or rum. So it’s a sort of acceptable compromise. Also ”diet/zero sugar” drinks are in the long run bad for you. Don’t try to fool your pancreas you’re giving it real sugar, otherwise it’ll turn against you.
Corn syrup is definitely poison! It's in a lot of things here. My current diet is not a zero sugar diet because I am eating fruit! Your organs process most sugars the same, even healthy ones from fresh produce, but they don't have the same negative effect on body & blood sugar because they also contain fiber and other nutrients.
I’ve been doing keto for 3 months now to treat/address the chronic headaches I’ve gotten since I was 17 (3-4 times a week, lasting for days sometimes) and I think the thing I miss the most is FRUIT! I can still eat small amount of mixed berries & strawberries but omg I miss watermelon soooo much. Whenever I have a “cheat meal” it’s usually just a bowl of fruit 😂
That is because we are frugivores. Earn about rawveganism and fruitarianism :)
This actually helped me so much so tysm for this wake up call of the diabetic topic
I'm really sorry but I'm eating a slice of peanut butter pie while watching this. YOU'RE STRONGER THAN ME!!!!
Omg I love the cotton candy grapes!
Also kale (cooked) is so yummy with eggs!!!😀🌹
This may not be something you want to share, which is totally fine. Is the prenatal taken because it has different or extra nutrients or for baby purposes?
nice video im in keto diet , i don't even eat fruit sugar..It's nice to see people eat less sugar...keep it up :)
Hi! I noticed your knives while you were prepping that pineapple fried rice (totally plan on trying it out btw!). I was just wondering if you knew the brand name of the knives, if they came in a set, and if you had any links to them! Love your ASMR videos btw, and I love how candid you were about your insulin resistance! I totally thought I was alone, but I'm glad to know I'm not! :D
The brown handled chef's knife is Takayuki and all of our other good kitchen knives are Japanese as well! Highly recommend, you will have them forever!
Babe i hesitated to say this but a lot of the problems/symptoms you have sounds like a disease called Breast Implant Illness that you can get from having implants. Im not sure if you have implants but in some videos it looks like it. I had my implants removed 6 weeks ago and i feel so much better. Some of the major symptoms of BII are hair loss and fatigue. I love your channel, please look into it
When you showed your skin when you had acne, it felt so relatable cause l thought you never had acne...your skin cleared up so nicely. Also, l just wanna mention that rice cakes may not be slow carbs? Because they are heavily processed and depleted of nutrients..
Hey! Yes I had very bad acne for many years. The rice cases aren't slow carbs but when you eat fast carbs with protein they don't spike blood sugar as much. I am not cutting out fast carbs entirely, just lowering them in most cases. Rice cakes are still pretty low carb (14g), 3 ingredients, and no sugar (theses ones anyways!). My trainer recommended them with protein for snacks on the go ❤️
@itsblitzzz if take fish oil every day that will help with the dry eyes
love this video you are a natural beauty.
I think more people are diabetic then they might think. I am also diabetic but all my other blood tests are great (cholesterol, blood pressure, triglycerides etc) and doctors are really confused as to why i am diabetic. Personally I think it is stress that causes a lot of people to have these high blood sugars, and people think they are probably not diabetic if they do not have obesity, which is, in my opinion, quite naive.
please tell me you are using the rest of the fruits you didn't cut off properly!!! stuff like that is the reason for my anxiety 😨
I always eat around the core and do so in parts of this video! There is not one way to cut or eat fruit xx
@@itsblitzzz i'm glad to hear that 😊
I love getting my blood drawn too!!! Hehe 😂

Not judging just curious, but like how is that enjoyable?
superliseida I’m not sure how to explain it. I’m a medical student and I know the technique you’re going for when drawing blood and my veins have always been so visible, and some very palpable. I don’t know but I really enjoy watching the process and then seeing my blood on the little tubes ready to be examined and knowing all that came from me idk. Plus it doesn’t hurt, I’m not sure why but I like the process 😂
Why you lower your grain intake? Whats with the grains?

Try Forcapil for hairloss!!! It’s magic in a product. In my country it’s a big big hype right now and it’s sold out everywhere and everyone has AMAZING results. I saw that you can find it on Amazon. Do your research about it and give it a try!

You can make a "jam" out of chia seeds and fruit. You saute the fruit (i.e. strawberries, blueberries) on low medium heat. You can add stevia or different sweetener if you like. You add the chia seeds and it gives it this jelly-like consistency. I make mine and put it in mason jars.
Whattt that sounds amazing!! Must try
I do this in my instant pot and it’s so good!
Wow, thanks for the recipe!
Ooh that sounds so good! I'll have to try adding chia seeds! I make mine with fresh or frozen mixed berries, a splash of fruit juice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a couple teaspoons of honey to sweeten (if you like). Simmer and mash the berries, cook until its thickened up a bit. It's so easy and really delicious :)
Also good for people like me who really can't handle raw fruit along carbs.
Can you do a video about scalp care ... natural shampoos, natural remedies, hair growth, essential oils for the scalp?
Saya I second that
maybe not the most obvious comment--but most folks are doing a good job of talking about everything else--so i wanted to say that i really appreciated the inclusion of your (very mild) snap at your boyfriend, and the resolution you undertook. that felt refreshingly real, and confirmation that there are other really kind, conscientious people out there who have less-than-100 moments with others, and then bounce back. :)
Sugar is addictive. Same as heroin. Parents use it as a reward for children. "eat all your vegetables and you get desert".

❤️
5:20 The reason you find honey to be all right is that even though it's very sweet it actually releases sugar slowly into your system. In other words it's a steady energy source and also has many healing properties.
thank god. although I’m trying to limit my sugar intake including honey i’m glad I’m eating something that is actually ok for my body
Oh girl, I’ve always struggled with sugar and processed carbs! 16 months I began a Keto diet to lose weight and STOP the insanity!! You are so strong and beautiful:I KNOW you can quit your sugar habit! You always have a great slow-and-steady approach to everything you do!

@@itsblitzzz for me the best tool against this addiction are IF with 2 meals in a day in a small window (3~4 hours aprox) this have to be an habit, if you want once or twice in a week you can make more than 2 meals. Always eat a lot of vegetables and healthy fats like advocado, Spanish extra virgin oil, etc. I'm not vegan but never eat meat, milk or eggs, only blue fish or shellfish sometimes. maybe you snapped at Nick because of your withdrawals from sugar? just wondering
Don't think so - just rushing, filming, and behind schedule! I stopped eating most processed sugar almost two months ago now, but I find that I do feel more irritable in the first week when the cravings are worse.

@@bridgettebeard7917 frequently having breakage is generally an indicator of other things. Yea it's definitely in so many processed foods! I have been hyperaware of it for years so it is a bit easier to cut out this time around. Thanks so much!
I stopped consuming sugar (fruit not included) about 3 yrs ago and I have to say it has benefited me so much. my skin, my health, my teeth, cravings and overall mood. I also stopped consuming caffeine about 2 yrs ago and I will never go back. my heart races in my chest with just a mouthful of any sugar or caffeine now. feels aweful.
I'm still working on eating healthy and going vegetarian.
If you intend to go vegetarian I suggest you to go vegan because dairy and eggs industries are as horrible as meat production, if not worst because after being abused all of their life, they die the exact same way animals created for meat industry die
There is a great documentary called “Fed Up” and it talks about the effect of sugar, how much of a negative impact faux sugar and real sugar can have, how the industry fools you into thinking low fat is better for you, but most dont know that low fat items are higher in sugar and sugar substitutes. It totally made me and my husband rethink how we approach food. It’s a great and eye opening documentary.
