    Another note about tutoring: keep in mind that every hour of face-to-face work with a student might take 45 mins-1 hour of prep (this decreases with time). Factor this in to your hourly rate.

    As a college student, I asked some of the professors on campus if they need help. I was able to gather relevant articles and resources for their upcoming fall courses AND my college paid me. Now that the semester is over, I am working on a fellowship virtually with the same professor. Highly recommend reaching out to any of your teachers/professors as a student.

      the professors only hired people from their community or those with the highest gpa. also nepotism was rampant. many ta couldn't even speak english properly but were able to land high pay low hour jobs in research, text marking, assignment evaluation, etc. but only the inner circle could get hired. many professors used research money to elevate lifestyle.

    Just a heads up: I tried to do rev and it was so bad, like 5$ for 12 mins of audio but it would take like an hour because the audio was muffled and they were talking so fast, and you have to have a really high % accuracy too keep the job. Would look into other places first - also when I did it you could also only cash out after earning a certain amount of money. This was a few years ago, so things might have changed but def look into other things first.

    • @michelley1621

      Thank you for this!! I applied for Rev while I was furloughed from my job. I was on a waitlist forever, but just recently got approved to start. I haven't logged in yet to start looking at jobs, but now I might not even bother.... $2-$3 an hour is not worth my time!

    • @lalalai6444
      @lalalai6444 4 года назад +10

      I think Rev is great for other countries, like here in the Philippines, a dollar is equivalent to fifty philippine pesos so we actually earn more because of the currency.

    • @wolfferoni
      @wolfferoni 4 года назад +6

      @@lalalai6444 You make a really good point. It's usually cheaper to hire workers in countries where the currency is lower but that kind of reminds me exploiting workers

    • @wolfferoni
      @wolfferoni 4 года назад +4

      I tried Rev a few years ago and had the same experience. It's not as simple as just transcribing because you have to sync the subtitles with the audio and there's a whole style guide for how to do it properly. It's a pain when there are multiple people speaking. It starts really low, at about 50 cents per minute of audio to transcribe. You'd be surprised at how long it takes to transcribe things and do a good job. The easier jobs are taken extremely quickly so you're often left with ones you can't really transcribe without the risk of being given a bad grade and at risk for losing the job entirely. It's really not worth it.

      Yea, I have it too. The typist stuff, esp if real time I could never do. At least the tutoring can be done without it (any other subject) and babysitting. Data entry too I think in most cases is done just within a time frame so you can use whatever you normally do to double check things-- most data entry isn't too tricky someone is just outsourcing tedium they don't want to deal with. And tbf I've definitely known people who are personal assistants who struggle with language. Depending on who you're assisting and what with, it can be nbd. *Most* just want someone who can organize, reach out to other humans, and help them keep track of things.

      yeah, language (especially written) helps, though maybe you've found things you're good at that other people don't find as easy as they find written language? i keep remembering a test-taking tip i got a while back: When you're given a choice between two (or more) essay questions, pick the one you find easiest to answer. You don't get extra points for doing something that's harder for you instead of something that's not so hard for you, when it's supposedly the same difficulty in general.

    I've done tons of research on virtual assistance as a freelancing job and even mainstream job. With regards to VA jobs posted by employers, it's not easy to be a part time (or as needed) VA if you have a full time job with set hours. Many times companies need you available during certain hours (ex: 8-5pm in their time zone if you can work remotely). Doing it as your own business has tons of challenges as well to become profitable. If you are doing employer VA work full time AND have the needed skills, it may be a good choice. Depending on income and benefits.

    250$/h for tutoring?!? NYC prices are really wild!! I make 20€/h in Milan and that's on the upper end of things...

      Yeah it likely depends on your area. I’m a professor now, but I did a lot of tutoring and nannying work (up until last year) and because of the middle class towns I’ve lived in, tutoring and babysitting never offered more than $13/hour, but, most of the time, pay was between minimum wage and $10/hr.

    I thought Upwork was the crappiest website for freelancers/VA's? Did something happen in their upper management that it's good to bid jobs in there now?

    Those weird survey things are sketchy af but google ad rewards is a legit one. It takes a while but I’ve made like 25 bucks in a month and a good way to justify dumb purchases and it takes like a minute to answer surveys.

    I’ve opened a few checking accounts that offer bonus money for opening an account. Wells Fargo gave me $400 and Suntrust gave me $200! It took about 2 months to receive it but I’m ok with that. I actually don’t mind balancing to accounts, it’s fun for me. I just received a $300 coupon for Bank of America.

    First things first, as always great video... but not realistic in one sense. I use to purchase services on 2 of the 4 major freelance sites and I can say one thing. The competition and the rates have drop extremely. If you are an entrepreneur or look to "buy" a service great, but if you offer your service ...and live in a western country (North America, Europe, ect) its totally NOT viable. Amazing skillful Asians do 3 times the work as accurate with 25% of the price... I know it because I use them. No way an American can make an income worth the time invested.

    While FlexJobs.com IS a paid service, it is an excellent resource for finding part time, freelance and work from home jobs. I found my medical coding job there in 2017. Most jobs are for someone who already has a specific skill set requiring a certificate, license or degree, but they do have some entry level position such as online ordering for food service and such.

    Why does this video have a 3 week turnaround time? 3 weeks to edit a 13 minute video?

    • @teamene9034
      @teamene9034 4 года назад +10

      With multiple videos a week and the necessary lead time to make sure content planning is covered a few weeks ahead (e.g. something happens and they can't film videos for 2 weeks, they don't have to miss an upload) 2-4 weeks turnaround time is pretty standard for youtube

    • @daisyalicia4038
      @daisyalicia4038 3 года назад

      Absolutely. Cutting extraneous bits of a video to keep it concise, adding graphics, choosing a thumbnail, a thirteen minute video can sometimes be over an hour of filming, etc.

    oh god please no. Copywriting is a hard skill, takes years and is a science in its own right, Please please dfo fo not make people think that applying en masse its ok. It's taking away from people who have spent their life working and perfecting their craft and results in bad writing and horrible company copy. NOPE.

      Magda Wolak if you’re that talented as a copywriter, people at the entry level are not competition unless you’re still taking very basic jobs. I’m a freelance editor but do specialist work in academic publishing, so if a bunch of people want to get into copy editing that’s fine by me, they need more specialised skills before they start competing with me.

    Voice teachers have been hit hard, please do not hire minimum wage babysitters to teach music lessons. We are highly specialized and trained to teach singing in a healthy way that does not damage a child’s voice. Please search NATS if you’d like to find a credible singing teacher.
