Algorithm helps forecast frequency of extreme weather

  • By combining machine learning with dynamical systems theory, a team at MIT have now developed a method to "correct" the predictions from coarse climate models. The team’s approach “nudges” a climate model’s simulations into more realistic patterns over large scales. (Learn more: news.mit.edu/2...)
    This animation shows the evolution of storms around the northern hemisphere, as a result of a high-resolution storm model, combined with the MIT team’s corrected global climate model. The simulation improves the modeling of extreme values for wind, temperature, and humidity, which typically have significant errors in coarse scale models.

    The planet isn't suffering from "extreme weather", as a matter of fact, just the opposite is true. The Earth is in its calmest state of weather patterns that it has ever been in since its formation. Which includes plate tectonics, volcanism, cosmic and solar radiation, and meteoric bombardment. No, the weather is actually pretty darn good.

      @@CuetGoal-wd9te The planet doesn't give a damn about its little humans and their "Wars" or "Bombs". It will go on and on with its on processes for billions of years to come no matter what minor disturbances humans inflict.
