I went to Morocco last summer and I've got to say, the trains were better than in the UK. Yeah they were older and more crowded but the tickets were dirt cheap (for me at least, not sure about how expensive it is for locals) and were also electric, which is something the UK has actually regressed on since electric trains were invented. In the UK trains are so absurdly expensive that it's cheaper to fly to Scotland than get the train there, which is bollocks. And the Moroccan trains really weren't that bad on the inside, it was a squeeze but it wasn't that unpleasant though I did have to stand for a bit since an old woman was on my seat (same thing happens in England too). I wish Morocco all the best, shame they didn't win the world cup, I was rooting for them against the French every minute.
You went to Morocco last summer and not to "Africa"... While I know very well on which continent Morocco is located, I would not usually refer to Morocco as Africa.. By Africa we usually mean Sub-Saharan African countries. The same way you will not refer to Egyptian or Moroccan or Tunisian food as African food.
@@elladapetrosyan9610 The video is about Morocco though...
@@sonwig5186 I realise that. But the title is I took Africa's Ever HIGH SPEED TRAIN. I realise that that's where Morocco is. I can place all the 54 countries on a blank map of Africa. But I live in Kinshasa and was expecting to see a country like Kenya in a video with such a title. Likewise, will rarely refer to Egypt as Africa. Here in DRC we will almost never closely watch the progress and even compete with Morocco and Egypt, we will rather refer to development and progress made by Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana or Kenya or Tanzania, Zambia, Angola, etc. and even South Africa. Not that we hate Morocco etc. but bcs due to their geographic location and history these countries are developing very differently from the "black" Africa.
@@elladapetrosyan9610 Yeah, I also thought the video title was a little misleading. I hope that soon sub-saharan Africa can get trains like this too.
@@elladapetrosyan9610 Oh sorry for inconveniencing you . We will put Morocco on another continent ASAP . 😑

Most impressive. My only trip to Morocco was on Inter-Rail in 1986! It took about 5-6 hours for this journey. I got to Marrakech and got chatting to a friendly student who invited me to his house to sample some almond pastries, where his dad and friends were watching Serie A on TV. Appropriate timing for this video as Morocco become the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi finals. The stations and trains have changed out of all recognition. It was clearly sensible to buy tried and tested French TGV technology, and I wish the seats on our new UK Intercity trains were as comfortable as those shown here! All in all, a huge transformation of the country in the last 35 years, so kudos to Morocco.
Welcome back Ian .
Also in 1986 Morocco become the first African nation to reach the World Cup round of 16 lol
That's because since 1999 Morocco knew a nice economical development even without ressources like oil or gas they managed to diversify their economy, they went from mainly exporting food, cheap phosphate to having Cars as it's top export as the biggest car exporter in Africa with a very high integration rate with like 70% of all components made in Morocco, and now rivaling Romania and Hungary . ggz to them, they could've developed more exponancially if this economical crisis didn't happen, even these past 10 years it changed imensely, I'm always amazed by the change when i get the chance to go there, some places are as modern as western Europe and others sadly still lag behind, but they have the will, hope for a better future for Morocco.
@@Yanzdorloph Thanks, that's very interesting. I had wondered what was supporting Morocco's economy so that they could afford all the infrastructure - without even the aid of EU loans or grants! They seem to have done a lot better than some other countries which on paper have greater resources but have wasted them through inefficiency or corruption.
@@iankemp1131 I mean, the European Union kinda helps too in very big projects, for example this TGV thing, 50% of it was financed by a loan probably wth low interests from the EU(Morocco does these projects for a lot cheaper than the same stuff in Europe, this TGV thing was built from scratch for only 2billions Euros, can't even link 20km places with trains in the Uk for 2Billions). and so were the solar energy farm the biggest in the world, and so will the pipeline between Morocco and Nigeria, billions from the project will probably be financed by loans from the EU.
Such a beautiful country. Congrats on such amazing progress. Greetings from Pakistan 🇵🇰💚

I am well impressed by your correct use of the Arabic script and attempt at pronunciation. Although not perfect, the attempt is laudable! These things are often not expected on the English speaking internet, so this was a happy exception. And, to be honest, the Moroccan-Arabic dialect is a challenge upon it own.
Concerning the fastest train taken, my experience is limited to the Rotterdam-Paris Thalys service.
I agree / Met je eens.
I find that when westerners learn Arabic in the east, they keep a very thick accent and a slow way of speaking, but when the ones who learn Moroccan dialect when they get good at it they speak it like the locals

Interesting to see how Morocco approaches the concept of HSR differently from Japan (i.e. boarding, seating, open air rather than a half or full roof at the station terminal). Welcome to the club, and what a refreshing landscape to view at 320km/h on the ground!
I took that train from Tangier to Rabat, loved it
The fastest trains I was on were in mainland China. 350km/h between Guilin North and Shenzhen North. Beautiful landscape, so many mountains. And the Maglev in Shanghai went 430 km/h, but that was a very short ride, just from the airport to the city.
This is very cool, it’s wonderful to see the world of trains
I agree, I love travelling on trains in different countries. :)

Of course traveling on the Moroccan high speed train 'alboraq' could be an unforgettable experience, the same if you're traveling in car or riding an adventure motorcycle 🏍 thus the pleasure will be far more exciting reaching the many tourist destinations and attractions around the country particularly in summertime where beaches 🏖 along the coasts are fully crowded with people 🏝🏕🌄🌞
I remember the old station in Tangiers from back in the 80’s. No high speed trains back then. Morocco has come a long way.
Yeah, but we didn't have them either!
As a Moroccan believe me , 450dh for a flexible aaand first place is sometimes cheaper than taking regular public transit, we have our issues like all the countries but when it comes to transportation infrastructure we have it under control 🇲🇦🇲🇦👍🏽.

i bless the trains down in africa
I have travelled on the Tianjin to Beijing (and return) highspeed train at 347kph (216mph) - 30 minutes each way.
Moroccans at first were very opposed to that project, but later were convinced of it's utility
that is true, it is a hefty investment money wise. But it is a good sign to get investors in though, the more modern a country and stable is, the easier the money flows becomes.
both, the train and the station are looking very nice.
Seeing my good old TGV interior, but with those beautiful african landscape feels great ! Feels like France and Morocco are connected by a railline above the mediteranean sea. :D
The drivers and engineers were all trained by the SNCF that was very involved in this TGV in Morocco and basicaly managed it for the first year. there was plans to build another line between Marakesh and Agadir then link Marakesh with casablanca, with the goal to link all Moroccan cities with a TGV line, it was a whole elaborated plane and calender with planed finaces and all the boring stuff, but as you know, Morocco and France had a falling out, and the contracts were canceled. Thx God they signed a contract with Korea Rail Network Authority few months ago, works hopefuly starting soon
That's interesting, I wonder if we will see Korean-built trains in Morocco soon...
@@Yanzdorloph korea huh? interesting. . . they got a nice hsr system but thats a random connection
@@ciello___8307 Not really, Morocco after the contract with france got canceled, made an "appele d'offre" (idk what in english, maybe call for bids?) and 2 companies answered Chinese railways and Korean railways, both want to take on the project, at the end they went with Korean company instead of chinese one. + both korea and china are trying to make their railways companies build high speed trains for other countries Europe included.
@@Yanzdorloph They can give a TGV to China so they can copy it.
I did Seville - Barcelona - Paris - London - Norwich at the end of October and it was epic ! Renfe AVE on the Seville - Barcelona leg at 300 kph, then SNCF TGV Barcelona - Paris, the best bit being the scenery en route it was truly marvellous. Finishing off with Eurostar Paris to London which was its usual efficient self ending up with a swift trip on a 745 Flirt of Greater Anglia.
Amazing! I did a similar journey to reach Morocco actually, that was London-Paris-Barcelona-Madrid-Malaga-Tangier. :)
All of these are lines that have changed out of all recognition since I did a similar journey on Inter-Rail in 1986. Newhaven-Dieppe ferry, overnight Paris to Irun in a smoky compartment, a whole day from there to Madrid on the "express" which was the fastest non-supplement train, overnight from Madrid to Algeciras in a couchette, and about 5-6 hours for the Tangier-Rabat/Casablanca run. Just goes to show the huge improvements made in all these countries by funding high-speed rail lines.

@@utopiatech4546 What you say is *TRUE.* It is important to note that Spain Colonized the area in 1884, and abandoned it in 1976, when Spain's General Franco - on his deathbed - signed a secret agreement which handed over the territory to Morocco and Mauritania. This agreement was illegal per the UN. But supported by both France and Spain in their hopes to maintain colonization of Africa.
In many ways, the Europeans still Colonize Africa. I am confident that Moulay Hassan will, when he takes the throne, create a relationship with Western Sahara much like Malaysia did with Sarawak - where they are officially granted self-government as a Federation _with_ Morocco. Although Moulay may not rule for some time, I think he understands that if any part of Africa remains even partially Colonized, then all Africa remains Colonized.

Those pictures of old trains in the beginning reminded me of some other big, rich country, still operating very old trains, especially for freight… Amtrak and the US, so embarrasing that Africa has a true high speed line, and the US doesn’t, and the northeast corridor doesn’t count, as it’s only high speed for small part of the route. Wouldn’t be surprised, if africa got a continent wide high speed rail network before the US does…
