In my opinion, Misaka is a very strong girl. Not just physically but emotionally as well. Caring for her friends and many sisters. She can be a bit bossy and a tsundere, but she has to be my favorite character along with Touma.

Loved this series, I pretty much watched all four seasons in the course of a couple weeks. Only thing that disappointed me with it were the amount of inconsistencies between the overlapping episodes of of index and railgun. Though they were minor differences overall so it really wasn't enough to affect my overall opinion of the show.
Devil Theory Kamachi, the author of the original LNs actually tried to explain this as Touma playing down his own involvement in events and Mikoto exaggerating Touma's role because he pulled her out of what she thought was an impossible to escape situation

+WonderlandOfMalice there seems to be two sides of ESPer powers, there is the direct power of the abilities, like the teleporters growth into the point that she could teleport herself, something that when she was younger she couldn't do. but the second side is having a deeper understanding of their powers, how they Violate the normal rules, and how to abuse those violations. the important part is the abuse those violations, some of Mikoto's most powerful abilities are not related to her throwing lightning bolts, but instead relates to her ability to control magnetism through channeling electricity through the air, but because her power violates only 1 normal concept (a human can't control electricity) she needs to figure out how to expand from there using the rules. the readers will want to understand why she can do what she can do, hence the explanation. Index on the other hand is focused on "magic" the rules pull upon concepts beyond Science and focus on aberrations of reality. logic states that doing these dozens steps in this order because it's the third Tuesday after a new moon should not heal a potentially lethal wound, incidentally because it calls an angel into being in a model of the room you are in, which brings an angel into being in your room. that is the long explanation of 1 spell seen. does the angel heal you because it wants to, because it is the assumed cost of it's freedom, because it's job is the heal those that call upon it, because the spell forces it to heal all injured people in the room, the story never covers this and it's assumed the spell creator (discoverer?) might not even know this answer. short: Esper powers are a minor violation of the rules of reality and the rest needs to be justified. while magic is bound by entirely different rules and as such can completely justify having little to no explanations, with just the explanation of "it's magic" being acceptable. I enjoy index because I find Touma's power more interesting to me, but I do enjoy the concept of Esper powers in general.

The Railgun series only has to really focus on Misaka and her friends, plus the railgun anime is based on the railgun manga. The index series is being adapted from the light novel with a WHOLE lot more characters and story put into the episodes. So it's understandable, but after watching both, you can connect the dots on what the main issue is.
Maanuueel42 \m/(^_^) no, she's in the light novels. She appears in the New Testament series, which is the continuation of events following volume 22. Also, while I do like Othinus more, that certainly doesn't mean I don't like Mikoto. She's still pretty awesome, and definitely my top ship with Touma.
