We in Belarus since ancient times for this operation used a special tool called "scraper" or "korilka".
Drawing knives work very convenient. The bark is removed quickly and cleanly. In debarking of logs takes less than 15 minutes. The tree is not damaged, the upper layers remain intact, which is important for increasing durability of carcass and further reduce cracking.
Another tool that can remove the bark - a shovel. I was prepared for this purpose an ordinary shovel, which cut off the spout and the sharpened lower edge. Shovel work a bit harder than Skobelev, but the main drawback is that the cork (the first subcortical layer) is removed bad.
In the literature, there are tips to remove the bark with an ax, but the carpenters removed the ax bark very rarely, because it is inconvenient, inefficient and labor-intensive.
I want to draw your attention to the inadmissibility of the debarking mechanized methods - elektrofugankom or cutter - a nozzle on a chainsaw. At the same time, together with the bark removed the top layer of logs, loose and open internal layers of wood, which are less resistant to environmental influences. Furthermore, due to high shrinkage rate on the surface of the logs will be increased cracking.
