Csaba Szabó, a research physician, left Hungary twice, when he wanted to do research and become a university professor in Hungary. He was not allowed to do so after he bluntly attacked the decades-old system of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which is still ossified and inherited from the Soviet structure, at a science policy conference 16 years ago.
Today, Csaba Szabó is the most cited Hungarian scientist in the world across all fields of science, but he is also in the top 400 of the list of the world's most influential researchers, out of no fewer than 16 million of his colleagues, while he has made world-changing achievements in curing cancer and Down's syndrome.
Following the example of Csaba Szabó, this podcast explores the reasons behind the seemingly unbreakable Hungarian intellectual "forced export", i.e. why our outstanding values have been chased around the world for decades.
