I think this new rule is relevant mainly for option 'sellers'. Because the need to exercise or not exercise your option only arises in the case when you have sold an option. No one is explaining this important point. For option buyers it does not matters.

@@tradinglegend21 If your option becomes ITM then you need to maintain a minimum balance with your broker and must square-off the position before expiry if your broker does not do it for you automatically.
@@tradinglegend21 If your stock becomes ITM before expiry, you need to maintain a certain percentage of your total premium amount with your broking firm as reserve. And also you need to square off your position else the broking firm will automatically square-off it. No real problem.
