That dad trying to make light of the situation when he almost let his son drown to death actually boiled my blood. That good dude that SAVED THE BOY'S LIFE showed saintly restraint by not decking that PoS right there. I guess he didn't want to traumatise the kid even further.

I thought the same thing. And frankly when he said we might be seeing each other again with the tone and body language he did, was a clear threat. He was very irritated for the call to the police

There's more to that story than what's shown. The kid hopped off when the dad was in front driving. When he noticed the kid missing and called the cops. He was back out looking for him when the kyak found him

Maybe you should read the entire story instead of assume the entire context based on a 20s clip.
People like you shouldn't be allowed to vote; You clearly are incapable of using what little brain you do have.

      Quote from Reddit:
Just spotted this dad at Sam's club and watched him for a bit. While he seemed drunk in the video I don't think that was the case. He's extremely awkward and in the video to the hero he says"you saved me a ton of hassle" rather than "thanks for saving my son" and to his son says "you look nervous" rather than "are you ok" indicate dad may have autism or another cognitive issue.. He shows no compassion or empathy and it comes off as cruel and the mannerisms come off as drunk but he may have a mental health diagnosis explaining the coldness and awkwardness. His conversation at Sam's club was awkward AF and painful to see him clunk through. All about him of course. I had an impulse to say something but what good would that have done? None, other than me being an a-hole. I would like to coach this guy on how to be more compassionate and help to develop empathy. But he'll just go through life with others thinking he is a self centered a-hole.... Which he kind of is....

You would have to actively fight the programming going on to desensitize and dehumanize us. Western media has been targeting the world with it for over 20 years now. It accelerated when Trump took over. TV ratings for Gore and Violence dropped to TV-14 and younger for violence.
The fact that villains are poised in a positive light making them comparable to Heroes. People love the Anakin/Vader story. People loved Thanos for the idea of snapping away half the population. The movies even backed this by making a movie where everything seemed to be SO MUCH BETTER once half the population was gone. And then doubling down on that with bringing those people back and showing how terrible it is.
I'd never seen discussions about half the population going away as I did after that.
Violence in general increased dramatically across the board.
There's so much more. SOOO MUCH...

They are the only people legally allowed to carry large blades in public in many countries. Another thing that contributes to this heroic behavior is that death doesn't mean much to Sikhs, and so they have no problem risking it for another.
It's also the only religion that historically granted women rights before any other society did.

Edit: please stop calling me a Hero. i am not a hero. i did what anyone should do to protect another. i didnt tell everyone this to be calle a hero, but to hopefully inspire everyone reading it to do the same for others. please, protect and guide the younger generation. they are our future, as without them, there IS no future.
4 years ago now, i saved a little girl that came running to me crying and calling me "big brother" and i was confused as all hell. then i saw an older man in his 60's or so come running after her, claiming her was her Grandfather, and trying to get his hands on her quite aggressively, so i stepped in. i yelled at him to "not touch my sister" and eventually had to pin him to the ground as i unstructed the 7yo girl how to call the Police with my phone as i held the guy down.
now she is 11, and is doing great at school, has lots of friends, and calls me her best friend ever lol. she is such a sweetheart. the guy that chased her is serving life in prison after Police discovered 2TB of CP on several harddrives. dude wont touch another kid ever, and i made sure of it. keep your kids safe people! they are our Future after all.

My first car accident was at the age of like 19 when driving back from school after not sleeping for a few days. I was in the forward-traffic lane and the turning-lane began moving... I'm nervous over the accident and ask the other driver if she needs EMT, because even at the low speed my SUV made the back of her car unrecognizable. She's looking at me like I'm crazy, I don't blame her because I could hardly speak from the lack of sleep. She asks if she needs to call the police and I say something like "I don't know, this is my first accident, I think we should pull off the road to exchange information." Later after exchanging information, my insurance says the damage to her car looks way worse than it is, police warn me for reckless driving. Took me like 5 years to get over driving while feeling even remotely tired, and I never plan on driving while deathly tired again. Good learning experience!

It's definitely a crappy situation, but panic can cause people to do stuff they may not normally. I used to be a lifeguard, and one of the trainings we had was learning how to disengage from a panicked swimmer (it was basically an under water throw if they got on our backs). If someone's drowning, they'll hold on to anything, even another person.
So again, I hate that he was drowning her in his own panic, but I wouldn't blame him either.
(also, if you do ever have someone pushing you down in a panic, if you can actually go deeper, it can loosen their grip enough for you to get out from under them)

I think there much more people much braver than they would ever imagine themselves to be.
Unfortunately, there are also alot of completely incompotent people (in these situations). And the true culprit here is that that incompetence sometimes stems from not being brave enough, but alot more times it also stems from the fact that some people are just not willing to put themselves in danger for other people, or even "be in action" for other people. "better them than me" mentality. This is a much sadder situation than what you probably have.
But I think if you are a person who is willing to help other people and who values other people even if they are strangers, you would be surprised how brave you would become when these situations arise. I think you are brave, my friend

It ''just happens'' you don't actively think about it.
People's instinct is to help each other and work together.
We're a very social species after all :)
We might have our differences but when push comes to shove..
      None of that matters.
I remember one of the weirdest and creepiest things I've experienced in my life.
I was at a Fries place in the row to make an order.
and a dad comes in and says he needs to use the bathroom if we can look after/watch his 5/6 year old daughter for a second.
he went to the bathroom, and as i am about to make my order some man/guy goes to the kid ''You want some candy? come with me outside to my car''
The person behind the register glanced up at me, i glanced up at the worker and within a microsecond we both understood and acknowledged what we just heard.
as we (and probably everyone in the store) didn't make a sound, nothing was said, we all just stared at the guy i think.
he looked up at us got scared and went outside, it must have looked insanely menacing to him, to see 10+ people paused in anything they were just doing , and just staring at him with the most dead stare ever, silent, as if stopped in time by disbelief.
It was like within the snap of a second a Spring was loaded and aimed at him, without a sound everyone understood and coldly observed.
if he had made ANY move besides going outside he would have probably been piled by 10 people.
dad came back from the bathroom and all was well.
still insanely weird to remember to this day.

I have a story for you... Down the block lived a kid who had a NICE car. The kid was Very into cars & his friends were always around with their cars, all working on them or cleaning them or w/e. Every week @ least, at all hours. My friend/neighbor (RIP) told me that late one night, his brother was on their porch. (Their place & mine faced each other. We were about 10 cars length from the kid's place.) In the dark, he sees the kids are at it, all working on the car together. Why so late? Who knows. They're teens-20s, they do what they do.
Next morning, lo & behold, the kid's car is up on milk crates, his expensive rims/tires gone. The brother basically watched it happen.
(Not to seem like victim blaming, but if the kid & his friends kept "normal hours" it would've been obvious something sketchy was going on & maybe the closer neighbors would've peeked out at the ruckus & called the cops.) Now it's a neighborhood story to remember the brother by (Also...RIP).

I've had to be rescued a few times in various situations, and everyone who has helped me will forever be heros in my eyes. My guardian angels! Short list if anyone is interested: motorcycle accident, accident in a water park, sea rescue (tide/waves took me out to sea on an inflatable), saved from SA, etc. Every single time at least one (usually more) people have been right there and stepped up to save me. Landed in San Francisco and had to stay overnight with a bunch of other passengers due to some layover problem so the airline set us up in hotels as the next flight would not be for another 24hrs. Two Russian girls were getting pan handled by some guys at the train station and they kept looking at me like they wanted help so I stepped in. Another, lady passenger who was traveling alone mentioned that she wanted to go to the fisherman's wharf but was scared to go by herself so she asked me to go with her. I couldn't believe that I was in America. It was unbelievable. Once a boy scout, always a boy scout. California has become like some third world country.

I've only lived here in Cali for about ten years, and it's gotten BAD the last few years. I was taking massage therapy classes a while back, and we ended up having to call mental health services because there was this guy - I don't know if it was mental issues or drugs or what - but he kept jumping in front of vehicles and then banging his head against the pillars of a nearby building. None of the girls in the class wanted to go get coffee or anything during their break until the only guy in the class and I (I get cred as 'the tough one' for being a farm worker and Southern, I guess?) said we'd go with them and keep an eye on things.
It's gotten horrible, even in the smaller towns. There are tent cities everywhere you look, the cops do almost nothing if they show up at all and there's shootings all the time. I've found blood on the sidewalk of my apartment building the morning following a lot of yelling and gunshots a few times now, but I can't afford to move anywhere else at the moment.

Also, from a Southerner - never give someone ice cold water or anything really, really really cold when they're having heat stroke, it can induce shock. Room temperature or slightly cooler at most, damp cloths with cool or room temperature water around the neck and limbs to help the blood start cooling down a bit. The same with someone who is hypothermic, you never want to get them too warm too fast or they can go into shock - the change needs to be gradual, start at the limbs and work inward slowly raising the temperature until they're stable.

@@ichrekdichnicht3848 I would like to believe it but we will never know exactly the truth and thing is, we can't let anybody touch our kids and see if one of them will try any sketchy move :/ so default reactions is, wheter you look nice or not, you don't touch the kids

So true, just don't touch other people's kids when they don't want you too.

There are so many things that happen, some bad and some good. Watching these type of videos makes my heart feel better. I feel that humanity is failing sometimes and this replaces it with hope.

What a great compilation. It restored some of my faith in humanity. I know people like to call others heroes for brave and selfless actions but it shouldn't be heroic, it should just be expected. We should all strive to look out for and protect others. Be the person you would want someone to be for you.

I like how the guy in the white truck ran out of the truck, because he knew the other driver could be an armed criminal, and he needed to get of there in order to protect himself.
