The couple of hundred dollars from more energy efficient appliances that one saves on electricity costs, doesn't come close to the cost of replacing a $3300.00 refrigerator which fails after 5.5 years. Appliance manufacturers have been in a race to the bottom for years. Congratulations - you have all arrived at the finish line.

they are designed not to work properly from the get go but that is the fault of the EPA and Federal Trade Commission ... How efficient is it when a you have to wash a load of clothes twice to get an ACCEPTABLE level of clean. Ive bought the 400 dollar washer and Ive bought the two thousand dollar washer . Its the regulations placed onthem by the power mad alphabet corruption in Washington.

With all those computer components I advise a surge protector (whole house or individually) properly sized for washer/dryer, refrigerator, TV, stereo, range/oven. The electrical surge when the power comes back after a thunder storm outage can fry a few components. Yes, older equipment did not have this problem but consumer demand for all the bells and whistles and overloaded power grids have resulted in appliance components that just can't take a surge. Or you can blame it all on the government as the person who commented below and keep electing the same trash.

You got that right. I just forked ot 300 for a circuit board after my utility slipped the power supply. I now have a surge protector for my fridge(50) .

The first thing I think is: they didn't give us a choice. I understand efficiency, if it means decreased resource requirements,) and safety requirements *sigh* but I would do without other upgrades to have a more robust product. So that means better quality parts. Could I get that at a modest price increase?

Purchased Sears Kenmore washer and dryer in 1991 - the set is now more than 32 years old! Both are still running strong with no breakdowns in all this time. I fear ever having to replace them with current appliances. They just don’t make them like they used to!

While they may be more efficient they are definitely less robust. All the extra features aren’t really necessary. Increased complexity adds more stuff to break down while adding greater expense and more likelihood to breakdown.
