I've only played a bit of the first game (which I hear is the 'worst' in the series) and had a lot of fun. And agreed I think the art style in Labyrinth of Refrain looks nice.
I’m really glad youtube recommended your channel! I love how you pick up obscure games I would have never known about. Now I want to get a switch to pick up all those visual novels.
I’m in a similar boat with the Final Fantasy Tactics games. I’ve only played Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on an emulator several years back and loved the game. I picked up A2 years ago but never played it…but now I am trying to play them all at one 😂. Glad I found this channel, subscribing!
Oh thanks! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the videos :) I'm hoping to get to all the Tactics games some day! The rumored remake would also be great to see release sometime this year too.
Actually all the tactics games stand on their own! The og is wildly different story and lore wise to the advance games, and the advance games are slightly connected lore wise but they’re very much their own stories and you don’t need to play any of them in order! Most peeps think FFTA2 has the weaker story of the three, but it also expands on the FFTA strategy formula greatly so I still think is very much worth it.
The little triangle's colour is actually here to code in which language the product is. So if you have a dark blue triangle, it means your game will be exclusively in German (or at least the cover will be, since nowadays, most games in Europe comes with all languages). The yellow triangle indicates normally that the game is in English. Most of my games that come from Switzerland have a purple triangle which denotes that they are (or at least their cover are) multilingual (DE, FR and IT at least).
Because of your video I've bought Coven of dusk myself and I'm currently playing it. I'm having so much fun ; Dronya is a hilarious character and there's quite some humor in the game as well. I really like it a lot ; I hope you will find it enjoyable too !
Good pick ups. Birth by Sleep is one of the key games in the Kingdom Hearts series, so I hope you enjoy it. Highlight pick ups from late Nov-Dec for me are Alliance Alive HD remaster, Tales of Arise, Ys VIII limited edition for the PS5, and Ar tonelico Ooga Knell of Ar Ciel for the PS3 (from Double Jump-lots of stuff there I can't find locally).
Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the psp might be something you'd like. It's got strategy and VN elements. As far as pick ups go for me, I got a huge Vita lot.
i'd recommend jumping into final fantasy tactics with the "war of the lions" version, on your new PSP! i adore the original FFT but i haven't played the sequels (though i'd love to try out tactics advance). the war of the lions is a very good version of the original! i love your content because of the extra context you give everything, like all the little tidbits on physical switch releases (cart. versions, the european triangles, etc.), so i'm looking forward to you extending into the PSP universe now! no pressure though😂! looking forward to a great new year of your channel!
Emily I never heard of doublejump and I will have to check it out. Nice pickups and I will need to grab a copy of that Final Fantasy III on PSP, looks amazing. Thanks for sharing ❤
Double Jump has their own RUclips vlog page which is a lot of fun. I found their pricing to be pretty fair and the condition for their 'good' or above games excellent. And definitely scoop up a JPN copy of FFIII on the PSP! ;)
Final Fantasy Tactics on the GBA is one of my all time favorite games. I would absolutely recommend trying to snag a copy of that if you can. Didn't realize Little Busters got an English text version on Switch, thanks for mentioning that! great video, thanks so much!
No problem! There are a lot of English txt Japanese physical releases that are sort of a kept secret. I recommend checking out the VN Paradise channel for a good list of them all!
As much as I would love to own Trails in the Sky I think it may be a little out of my price range (I own the Japanese Vita box version so I'll likely just stick that that one for now). But Ys I've been definitely looking into! I know Falcom is releasing a lot more remasters/ports in the near future and I have a feeling some of the older Ys titles will be some of them so that may help bring the prices down.
I agree it sucked that Final Fantasy pixel remaster pre-order was released at such a crazy time without any notice. I hope they release more of them. That looks to be so much fun.
Professor Layton and the Last Specter was pretty awesome. So weird to see DS games going for that much money. Crossing my fingers that Level-5 brings back the Layton series and a new Fantasy Life would be great. Love that cover for Gato Roboto. It’s a great indie Metroidvania that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. It’s a shame that there are bugs like that. I purchased Out kind Ghost but don’t plan on playing it until those bugs are resolved. Happy new year to ya!!🎉
Happy New Year!! Yeah a lot of the DS games are really going up in price nowadays unfortunately, the Layton 3DS games are also so expensive 🙈 But I would love to see Level 5 port or make sequels to their popular franchises on Switch or wherever. I'm looking forward to Gato Roboto! I haven't played many metroidvanias but this seems up my alley. It's unfortunate what happened to Outbound Ghost & the issues with the publisher, hopefully they can get the bug problems resolved soon.
Some nice grabs. FFT A2, and Little Busters are games I've been looking to get for a while now. Just need to pull the trigger. I think I might try out Double Jump Games in the future and see how the international shipping is. Happy 2023 to you and yours. I hope it brings you much success and happiness. ^^
I'm not sure how DJVG will be for international shipping since it's often quite pricey to ship anything from the US abroad but it's at least worth checking out. And Happy New Year over in SK! And thank you I hope 2023 is good to you as well :)
I'm just getting back into gaming again, specifically on the switch so I love vids like these where I get to see what cool games you picked up! This month I got myself persona 5 royal, splatoon 3 and legends arceus for christmas, there were a couple others I wanted but didn't have a chance to get -- more to buy next month I guess!
Love your taste - we hunt a lot of the same stuff from looking at your collection & pick-up vids. I've a few niche JRPG / VN recommendations for you, even though I'm almost sure you own them/they're on your list considering how well informed on the different outlets you seem 😅 - Nights of Azure 1 & 2 (a bit hard to find these days at a reasonable price) - Mary Skelter 2 & Mary Skelter Finale - Witch on the Holy Night - Dusk Diver 1 & 2 - Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force (sequel was recently announced as well) - Eternal Radiance - Aria Chronicle
Thanks for the recs! So far I have Witch on the Holy Night preordered (I'm so happy that type-moon VNs are starting to get localized) & have been eyeing most of the games on your list! Aria Chronicle I'm less familiar with so I'll look more into that one 😄
Little Busters is a great title, but it takes around 90 hours to see every story route. Good luck! I know the 2 Layton titles you're missing are expensive, but they are so worth it. I would definitely spend around $100 each if I had to. Thankfully, I don't!
(Sorry for the mass commenting...) I had trouble getting into Labyrinth of Refrain... it seemed good, but it just didn't have the charm of Etrian Odyssey, even though I did get the CE of the second part, Labyrinth of Galleria, which is a beautiful CE. I have doubts I'll ever get through either, but they look great in my collection. Never heard of Card Shark, but the art style is very nice... I'll probably skip it, but it is intriguing, especially since the dynamics are not about just standard card rules. Gato Roboto looks great, but that is the disappointment at times of physical copies. I wish the carts could be updated and have some flash memory. Love the flippable case art... it's so disappointing when you open a Switch game and just find a stark white interior with some legal text. It makes me sad to think that we'll probably eventually move fully to digital releases.
Hi Emily, I hope this gets to you in time. I just wanted to reach out and let you know/remind you about the “Limited Run Games: Blowout Sale” that starts at noon EST today. I am sure you are fully aware of the sale considering how organized you are about scoring deals and collecting! Side note: that is a very nice green PSP-3000 model! I would say PSP and Vita are top choices for handheld system comfort and ergonomics. I have logged some serious time on the PSP. I look forward to your future PSP and other future videos you have cooking (I vote for a proxy service video, since I have never used one)! Also, your last two videos with the “Last Haul” and “Q&A” are great! There are so many positive things in both videos to comment about; I will have to save those comments for another time. I hope you had a really nice, safe and peaceful New Year’s! All my best,
I was thankfully able to snag two titles I initially missed out on! Though I'm sad that the Jak collector editions they probably had super limited quantities sold out before I could proceed through checkout 😭 I'll just have to hope they release something similar for the PS5 at some point 😭 And thank you!! I hope you have a wonderful New Year too!!
@@orbalology Hey Emily, That is awesome to hear you scored two games from the sale! Which games did you snag for your collection by chance? I saw those Jax Collector’s Editions and I thought of you, definitely a hefty price for those. I know what you mean though at checkout and then seeing the queue of 5000+ “ahead of me in line to checkout.” I thought to myself, this does not look good. I did manage to corral a few games that I missed out on years ago. It was a shame there were no Vita games for this sale. Sorry to hear about those Jax Collector’s Editions at checkout. I think I could have checked out with those Jax Collector’s Editions in time, but I thought for sure you were all over those and one of the 5000+ ahead of me. Maybe we should coordinate our efforts in the future for really limited, tough to get games such as Jax, etc. Let me know what you think. All my best,
I managed to grab the first Fairy Fencer F and Fatal Twelve for LRG. As for the Jak collector's editions I have a feeling they only had like 5 in stock because it's a really old release from 2019, so I really wasn't too optimistic to beat out the bots. Coordinating on limited sales would be nice though I've been seeing so many shadow drop sales lately for reprints it's hard to coordinate for those in time unfortunately :(
Zanki Zero was one of the most intriguing games I've played in ages! The romances - especially LGBT - were great. MAGLAM LORD! I also loved that game. The levels were repetitive but the romance between Darius and MaleMC was adorkable.
I really was hoping Outbound Ghost would get great reviews but hearing about the bugs with the Switch version were disheartening. Overall you picked up a ton of fantastic titles Emily, personally never heard of Gato Roboto but it looks like simple retro fun! Ended up scoring a clean copy of 40 Winks on the PS1 and I'm pretty happy to finally add that one in my collection.
Congrats finding a nice copy of 40 Winks! Gato Roboto is a bit on the short side but I really dig the black & white aesthetic and it's a charming metroidvania :)
Excellent haul! I'm wanting to get into more visual novels, and I sort of had an eye on Root Film for awhile. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. I also really enjoyed Zanki Zero, but I didn't really play the "game" (i.e. I put it on story mode which basically makes the gameplay portion irrelevant and makes it very hard to fail😅). So I can't speak much to the gameplay. Story was great, though!
I'll be sure to let you know once I get to it! Oh I may have to do that with Zanki Zero if the survival & dungeon crawling elements get a bit cumbersome. But glad to hear the story is top notch!
PSP was such a joy. I remember picking mine up at GameStop when they released in 2004. It was a big deal to me because that was the year I got my drivers license in high school. 😌
I always thought the PSPs were cool back in middle/high school but unfortunately never got ahold of one. But I'll check out Patapon - from what I've seen it looks like a fun game 😄
My Switch game pickups the past 2 weeks (18 Switch and 6 other games): - Oxide Room 104 - Fire Emblem Three Houses - Astral Chain - Ark Survival Evolved - Snow Moto Racing Freedom - Sakuna of Rice and Ruin - Little Dragon Cafe - The Persistence - Darksiders 1 - Wile Guns Reloaded - LEGO Jurassic Park - Owlboy - Air Conflict Double Pack - New Tales of the Borderlands - Trials Rising - XCom Collection - Maglam Lord - Hero Must Die. Again
It is 😂 I don't mind fanservice usually and I think I needed to add an extra game for free shipping so I went with that one lol. And yes! There are so many great games (especially jrpgs) on the PSP I'm glad I can get to now.
My Pickups this month are mostly Christmas presents I got, which were Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (very hyped, after I already secured the Special Edition), Elden Ring (Launch Edition), Kena Bridge of Spirits and It takes two. The only game I bought myself this month was Ender Lilies in the Playasia Christmas Sale, but it hasn't arrived yet. Yes I live in Germany and the USK sign is always distracting from any cool cover art, but I still buy the Usk Version most of the time, because it also feels weird to put a pegi (or other) version between all the USK versions 😂 it's just a really weird habit especially cause in the shelf I wouldn't see a difference, because I just see the red spine and not the cover, but I would know that they are different and it would stress me out 😂 but I gladly buy other versions if the German one is rare and way more expensive for example I wanted to buy the Etrian Odyssey games for the 3ds and the German versions are unbelievably expensive, especially Nexus, while I got the Pegi versions for around 30-50€ depending on the game and they only have English language even in the German version so why pay double the price
Oh I'm glad to hear you snagged the Xenoblade 3 Special Edition! The game is definitely worth the hype. Also a good mix of other titles too 😄 Oh and interesting insight about the German vs. other European editions. I feel similarly regarding the different variants for the North American 3DS & other system titles where I like uniformity even if you can't spot a difference on the shelf 😂 But it's always frustrating when different variant prices are so varied.
I’d start with FF tactics on the psp. It has some translation fixes that can make the story easier to follow than the original ps1 release. Also a primer on buying games from Japan would be awesome!
Yeah I hear the PSP version is quite good! I'm glad it's still pretty affordable so I'll probably try to pick it up soon. And I'll look into making a video the next time I make a proxy order :)
Isn't the FF Pixel Remaster still available on Play-Asia? I ordered it not that long ago... standard edition. That's one area where we differ... almost every Square-Enix game ends up disappointing me at some point, but my boyfriend loves them, so I ordered a copy for him so he could play it when he gets here in 12 days. (Never mind... just heard your comment about that.) The pain of missing out on a preorder... The SMTV debacle with ATLUS screwing up the time and it selling out in two minutes or so after launching... I had to buy from a scalper on eBay even though when they did a second round, I hit refresh just at the right time and got a copy, so now I have two. If you like Ace Attorney, did you get Aviary Attorney? It is supposed to be hilarious. I ordered it but haven't tried it yet. Apparently, it's a bird play on Phoenix Wright with cats as the culprits and what not. 🤣 LOL every Japanese game ever: fishing mechanics or baseball mechanics! You have such amazing taste in games... every time I watch another of your videos, my boyfriend says, "Uh oh... what did you order now?"
Thanks for the review I went to vgp and picked up a few. Big for me this month I got psp legends of hero 1 an 2, I have 3 but did not want to start it out of order. Also had some deals on goodwillfinds 50% off sale. I travel to Japan a few times a year and always shop the retro shops for dual language although was not aware of ff3 and buster so will look for them next trip.
Oh nice! I need to get ahold of the early Legend of Heroes games trilogy too and see what the early Falcom JRPGs were like. And it's great that you're able to pick up games in Japan directly!
I hope you enjoy the PSP. I found it hard to play as I just didn’t think it holds up these days with the cramped controls and the pretty horrible screen. Shame though, there’s some great games. Check out Legend of heroes trails in the sky for sure and if you like tactics games try Jeanne d’arc.
Oh I want to grab all the Falcom games that haven't seen ports/remasters yet haha. I've also been eyeing Jeanne d'Arc! Looks like an interesting srpg by Level 5 :)
I got the final two games I was missing in the Mario and Luigi Saga, (Paper Jam/Bowser's Inside Story) I am stoked to add to my 3DS collection, but bummed out that the games I am missing are the big hitters ($100+ 😬)
Oh congrats on the 3DS pickups! And I feel you about just having the expensive ones left - I'm thinking of maybe attempting to pick up at least one before the eshop closes. But we'll see 😅
Ff 4 on psp is probably the most complete version to get, if also recommend the star ocean remakes, though they're getting spendy... Along with their strategy guides :) I don't know if you buy those as well.
Nice pick ups! I couldn’t find any deal as good as yours. But I didn’t want to buy more after the Ps5 😅 so I thought it was enough for the rest of 2022 year. Does DJVG ship globally? I was watching this video as I was working on my laptop. It was the first time I didn’t watch you through my phone. At some point in this video your eyes looked green-ish. I always thought they were light brown 😅 I don’t know anymore!
Yeah finally obtaining a PS5 is more than enough!! I think DJVG ship globally but like most US shops the shipping is probably pricey. My eyes are mostly light brown but I have a few green/hazel flecks sometimes in the right lighting lol.
Wow nice on collecting on the psp. I have a full jrpg library on the psp as well as some limited editions. I would start with the Ys games. They are expensive but worth it!
The Ys games are high up on my list! Though Falcom has been teasing about more remasters coming to the Switch - so I may hold out and see if any more Ys titles get picked like Oath of Felghana.
Another great haul video Emily! A lot of great pick ups and the more niche titles are the ones that interest me the most, if i recall Zanki Zero was extremely hard to get some years back or it was at an exorbitant price, Maglam Lord too so it's amazing you got a lot of these gems for the price you did, specially the Final Fantasy titles! :) As for titles i picked up i was extremely lucky with some of the titles i bought, one being AI: The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative Collectors Edition for PS4 sealed at my local GS for only 60$ CAD which isn't bad since retail MSRP for it was 160 without tax, i also picked up Mary Skelter Finale for the Switch (New) for 33$ and Chaos Head Noah / Chaos Head the double pack (Steelbook) for 50$ which too isn't bad since they were all sealed! Regardless amazing work as always and i'm sure i'll say it again BUT i hope you have an amazing new year and i genuinely wish you nothing but the best for 2023 and onward and for your good health as well, that and to enjoy the amazing games to come! :)
Oh wow those are great prices, especially for Nirvana Initiative! I was debating whether to get that for myself when it came out for the Aiba POP figure. She looked really great! And thank you again!! I hope the New Year treats you well too!! 😄
@@orbalology Honestly, the Aiba Pop Figure is quite high quality for the price we get everything for in the Collectors the detail is genuinely not bad at all, i think you should if you can find it for a decent price, i recall you really liking the VN series so it'll be a great collection to your stellar figures set! :)
Cool to see you get more DS games! Layton Last Specter is my fav entry in the series, the art style in the 2D Layton games is so awesome-the 3D ones are good but low key the 2D ones work some magic with the illustrations that is lost on the 3D entries (imo)! also ive been eying pqube VNs too, it really doesn't look like they are getting cheaper so I will probably have to bite >_> lol
Oh I'm glad to hear you loved Last Specter! Makes it worth the price I picked it up for lol. And I agree I think the pqube games are currently as low as they'll likely go.
@@orbalology pulled the trigger on Bustafellows, it was the one I wanted the most! also might get Root Film. Your dedication to the comment section is admirable take care lol :)
@@orbalology the PSP version is a little easier I think but packs all the charm and fun! The best way to play it is digitally on the Vita. You can map movement to the thumbsticks instead of using the face buttons.
I own Zanki Zero and a few of the Root games digital. I've seen VGP put them on sale a lot. I'm just waiting on that free opportunity to get them while I focus on other priorities. Root Film visually kind of reminds me of 999, so it's a game I'm interested in. I hear those Root games in general are very underrated VNs. Only games I managed to sneak into my busy December orders. Were long sought after physicals hits like Shovel Knight for 3DS & the original cover 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for DS. Both sealed and available locally. They cost a pretty tame premium, and IMO these are both must haves for any collector. PSP titles are pretty affordable still, so I'd probably try a few of those popular classics like Dissidia Final Fantasy, Tekken 5, and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.
Glad you were able to snag Shovel Knight & 999 editions you wanted. And agreed a lot of the PSP games are still within reach which is why I want to try to focus a little more on it this year.
@@orbalology Thanks! I've always been on the fence with buying an original cover 999 off ebay, cus some could advertise it however send out a reprint version. Finding it sealed by my local retro retailer kinda just made me impulse buy it for like $95. Usually I feel a little hollow paying that kinda price, but this time I felt it was worth it. Cus it eliminated me a lot of potential hassles like shipping damage, reprint mix ups, and sharing transaction info with a stranger. Just pick up and take home! Anyway PSP from what I've seen has a fair library of great titles, and only things you'd probably pay a premium for is say Trails in the Sky or Persona ports. I've seen a lot of great affordable Square Enix entries on that handheld.
I would be cool and helpful if you could show the spine of the Import Games. Some Games (especially SK or Asian Version have English Spines which is helpful when deciding which Version to import. In this video we could see that Little Busters has at least some English on the spine. Keep up the good work, i enjoy the chill and down to earth atmosphere.
For Little Busters the title/spine is mostly in Japanese, it's just 'Converted Edition' that is written in English. I can't think of many Japanese games that have English only on the spine, but one way to check is on PlayAsia's listing description under 'original name' and that is usually what's written on the game's spines.
Happy New Year, Emily! I like your green PSP! It's such a great handheld that's still impressive to me, especially graphically. I missed out on FF Pixel Remaster, too 😫 Hopefully, Square releases more physical copies 🤞. I didn't pick up many games in December. I spend most of my money this month expanding SSD storage for my PS5 & Series X. PS5- River City Girls Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion The Callisto Protocol 2TB SSD Series X- 2TB SSD Switch- Axiom Verge 2
@orbalology I was debating between Switch & PS5 also when it came to Crisis Core. I decided to go with PS5 because of trophies, 60fps, and I have FF 7 Remake for PS5, and they both go together. Crisis Core is also on PSP 😄. I'll pick up a copy for Switch when the price drops.
Personally I like the original Final Fantasy Tactics, WOTL on PSP was a welcome upgrade as it added a couple new classes, new characters, a bunch of new gear and co-op gameplay. Just waiting for a switch port to play it all over again. FFT Advance is an alright game, although more aimed towards kids. And the “soccer” mechanics where you get yellow cards and red cards for breaking the rules of fights gets you landed in jail if you get red carded was annoying at times. But overall I enjoyed the game and story, just not as much as the original. FFT A2 is still sitting in my backlog, got it dirt cheap after 3DS became more prominent. Great pickups!
Oh great, thanks for all the details!! I'm surprised we haven't seen a FF Tactics on the Switch yet but maybe Square Enix is waiting to release it sometime next year.
I got coven of dusk for $28 back in April I was so happy to get it at that price. I would also be interested in using proxy services to h buy imports. I got little busters from Play Asia but it’s out of print now. I would like to track down a copy of FFX with the Asian English cover. I have the Japanese cover already.
Oh that's a great price! I had it book marked for the longest time on Amazon but then it slipped my mind until it became a bit more difficult to find. I've noticed that a lot of the niche Asian-English games can go out of stock rather quickly on both PlayAsia & Amazon Japan so I've sort of had to use proxy services out of necessity 😅 Thankfully most of what I've been searching for has been available on the Japanese used market for reasonable prices. I'll look into making a video on which places I like to look at offer some hopefully helpful tips.
Great you pick Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep is one of my favorite series. Unfortunaly I've never played the PSP KH games even though they are in PS3, I guess. Let us know if you enjoyed playing It.
Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games of all time. The original ps1/psp game is by far the best. The others aren’t even in the same ballpark. Personally, I prefer the PS1 version because I just like the translation better. They rewrote all the dialogue in the PSP version and I don’t like it as much, but these days it’s more accessible and it’s still absolutely fantastic.
Yeah, Strictly Limited. I think that was their 1st release; for some reason, their latest release is the last one on the page, and I don't know their Filter system. Still haven't picked up anything from them, or anything online, as all my games are from retailers/2nd hand stores. VGNYsoft games look interesting too. I've never heard of DJVG before though.
Yeah their webpage was a bit tricky to navigate, though when I was looking on there during their sale they had a direct link to all in stock items. They should really consider keeping that as a permanent feature.
@@orbalology True. I have about 1,000 Nintendo games, and her bought anything online yet. It didn't seem like it has anything "Limited" you can still get their older games, but that is good for gamers that they are still reprinting more.
I’d be curious to see a vid on that proxy setup you use as I’m also in Canada and never bought games from Japan before. Enjoy Final Fantasy III, it’s amazing :)
I think you may have to be a little more conscious about custom fees compared to here in the US but I've seen a lot of people from Canada use proxy services so I can look into if there's any specific tricks they use when making a video. And thanks! I'm looking forward to how it runs on the PSP :)
I’d be interested to see a proxy shipping video. I’ve recently started importing older PlayStation games as they’re usually much cheaper than the US versions 🫠
Hi Emily As a collector myself I absolutely love your stuff, you cover so much (Switch especially) stuff that fit right into my mold. Anyways, I just thought I would recommend Liam Triforce's new video on A Link Between Worlds since you've mentioned it was the game that got you back into gaming. He cover great retrospectives and thought you might enjoy this one. Thanks for the great content, keep it up!
If you like switch dungeon crawler games, undernauts, demon Gaze, the moero crystal games (Though a little risqué), the lost child is alright, probably not worth current physical price, monkey tavern, digital only is decent, too. And mary Skelter is a lot of fun, too
@@orbalology Jon Cartwright at Good Vibes Gaming did a video a month or 2 back going over the different colour triangles on the European Nintendo games that's worth a watch
Nice picks, for PSP I do recommend YS: Seven, fantastic ARPG, I´m sure you´ll enjoy. Do you know many web sites that send worldwide? Here in Brazil the prices for some RPG´s and Switch games are very expensives.
Yup a lot of the Ys titles on the PSP are on my list - though with Falcom hinting that they plan to remaster more of their older titles I may hold off on the more expensive ones and see what happens 😅 As for websites that ship world wide (that sell ESRB games) VideoGamesPlus and PlayAsia are probably some of the better ones because they have a free shipping offer after some threshold. There are other sites that ship worldwide like PNP Games but most stores that are US based will probably have expensive international shipping. But if you're looking to get some imports/Asian releases then Amazon Japan or a proxy service can ship to your country.
Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Advance, and Tactics A2 aren’t related story wise at all, so you can start with any of the three games and you will be just fine! Tactics A2 has VERY small nods to FFTA, but it doesn’t effect the overall game!
One of my first experiences when I knew zero Spanish in Chile was trying to buy a PSP at a department store so I could play Persona 3 Portable and it took. so. very. long. to do... they were trying to ask me before ringing it up how I wanted to pay for it (I realized in retrospect) and I was just like, "Sell me the freaking thing already!"
Yes I would love to see a video about importing from Japan with proxy shipper. I'd really love to be able to do this with China and Korea and Singapore
Psp is the best Ff tactics to start with, hexyz force, monster kingdom jewel summoner, Crimson gem saga, and the persona games on psp are awesome, (also wild arms xf)
You say you like visual novels a lot and I just started Utawarerumono on the ps4. Just wondering if you'd played it before and if not, I'd recommend it from the 10 hours I have into in so far. I believe there are vita ports too. It's mix of visual novel and strategy rpg.
I actually picked up mask of truth & deception last month and aiming to get the prelude sometime soon so I can start it from there. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far!
@@orbalology prelude is currently on sale on psn for $24, but I know the appeal of physical copies. Unfortunately the other two were recently delisted, so physical is the only option now.
It's great though unfortunately not all proxy sites can buy from it. But some alternative shops that most proxies can purchase from are Surugaya and Rakuma!
I'm only missing azran legacy for the layton games, which I bought digitally, the day it launched. Big regrets. Not only that, it's my favorite of the bunch, played for 70+ hours. I think I'll take my loss and move on, I'm not that big on collecting. If you manage to get the 3ds layton before it's too late, don't forget to download the daily puzzles, they are really fun. The alchemy one is my fave.
Oh thank you for reminding me that has extra puzzles. I'm still debating whether to give in and get it physically or just pick it up digitally but I'll be sure to decide before March so I can scoop up the extra content.
I have a few but tbh I prefer owning physical copies, often times you can find cheaper prices for games that go to retail and if I end up not enjoying it it's nice to know I can recoup some cost by reselling. For a lot of indie titles I usually wait to see if they'll have physical releases too. But if not I try to pick them up on deep discount.
FF Tactics A2 is a fine starting place, really can't go wrong with any of those games. Each game is a self contained story IIRC, there isn't much overall story arc as such. I can commiserate on the Pixel Remasters. I refuse to pay extortionate pricing, either for game or shipping, so I too am hoping for an Asian physical. Not holding my breath though, Square Enix being as weird as they are.
The Prof Layton + Phoenix Wright crossover game was very meh... good to have it for a complete collection, but I was pretty bored by it. Instead of taking the best of both worlds, it felt like the worst was taken of both worlds.
Labyrinth of Refrain is a... one of a kind game. Interesting story, weird dungeons. There's a BDSM dungeon with little duck guys in bondage, girls pole dancing upside down ass facing out and muscley ogres with big saggy titties as enemies. It's very grind heavy like Disgaea too, but there's a good grinding spot in the BDSM area. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
@@orbalology Thanks for the reply - your care and attention to grow the channel shows by this reply...I subbed and look forward to more pick ups you find. Reviews would be nice too...
You should hack your psp and use roms. I am not discouraging collecting physicals as I buy many myself. However, psp games run like crap. They are loud and much much slower than when in digital form (tested many). So what I do is buy physicals and rip them right to my psp.
hmm, I don't think I've personally seen this though I haven't seen all their videos. They tend to clown around a lot so maybe something didn't translate well :(
All the Professor Layton games look like a ton a fun and labyrinth of refrain has a really neat art style.
The Switch has a really diverse catalog with lots of great VNs! I highly recommend it if you're in the market for a new console :)
Oh thanks! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the videos :)
I'm hoping to get to all the Tactics games some day!
Ah ok, that's interesting! Most of my European Switch games are from the UK I think so I wasn't as familiar with the other country variants :)
14:00 - Typo at this point in the video. Great pickups, and I cannot wait for your channel to grow in 2023!
Thanks!
Great pickups! Small touch, but I appreciate that you keep the game names listed on screen for each section 😊🙏
It's sometimes difficult to catch the names of these games (not to mention spellings) so I'll try to remember to add them in future videos too 😊
Excellent pickups!!! So many great games in here!
Thanks! Yeah it was another crazy month filled with some quality titles 😅😂
Because of your video I've bought Coven of dusk myself and I'm currently playing it. I'm having so much fun ; Dronya is a hilarious character and there's quite some humor in the game as well. I really like it a lot ; I hope you will find it enjoyable too !
Oh I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying the game a lot!! I can't wait to get around to it :)
I just found my old PSP and a bunch of games including kingdom hearts in my old room visiting my parents during christmas. Good finds!
It's always so fun to uncover old treasures, enjoy! :)
For some reason your content are relaxing
Oh thanks! 😄
Nice! I picked up Ys VIII limited I want to say the month prior to this video. It was nice that NISA re-released that package for the PS5 :)
Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the psp might be something you'd like. It's got strategy and VN elements. As far as pick ups go for me, I got a huge Vita lot.
That one is on my list! Thankfully it's not one of the more expensive titles. And nice - it always feels great to get in lots of Vita games!
i'd recommend jumping into final fantasy tactics with the "war of the lions" version, on your new PSP! i adore the original FFT but i haven't played the sequels (though i'd love to try out tactics advance). the war of the lions is a very good version of the original!
i love your content because of the extra context you give everything, like all the little tidbits on physical switch releases (cart. versions, the european triangles, etc.), so i'm looking forward to you extending into the PSP universe now! no pressure though😂!
looking forward to a great new year of your channel!
I'm not sure if there's as many interesting tidbits in PSP collecting, but if I discover any I'll be sure to share! :)
And definitely scoop up a JPN copy of FFIII on the PSP! ;)
@@orbalology oh nice! I am looking at their website now and will have to consider a few games now! My wallet thanks you 😅
Final Fantasy Tactics on the GBA is one of my all time favorite games.
@@orbalology This is super helpful; thank you so much for letting me know! Can't wait for your next video ☺
PSP- Trails in the Sky and Ys games!! They are expensive, but, it's Sky and Ys, they're worth it.
I had to buy my copies digitally on Steam. Going to replay Trails in the Sky on my flight tomorrow :)
A good choice for traveling - I hear it plays great on the Steam deck :)
@@orbalology thanks lol, I hope so. I got a 12 hour flight.
Ive intent to get Maglan Lord next year besides Labyrinth of Galleria, The Adventure of Dai Infinity Strash, Atelier Ryza 3 n Grandblue Fantasy Relink
Very nice, I'm super excited for Atelier Ryza 3 & interested in DQ Dai too :)
I agree it sucked that Final Fantasy pixel remaster pre-order was released at such a crazy time without any notice. I hope they release more of them. That looks to be so much fun.
Yeah hopefully Square Enix corrects their massive underestimation for the demand of these physical releases :(
Professor Layton and the Last Specter was pretty awesome.
I remember being addicted to Final Fantasy Tactics A2 back in the day. Never completed it though as it’s a very long game.
I've heard it can be quite long! Which doesn't bode well for my massive backlog but glad to hear you enjoyed it back in the day.
Awesome pickups and Happy New Year. The PSP was my first handheld system and it has an amazing library of games.
Thank you! And happy New Year!! 😊
NIS America had a holiday sale recently, that was pretty nice.
They get some nice digital sales every now and then! :)
Those are some good staples for the Switch! And haha yup there's always more to buy next month 😂
Love your taste - we hunt a lot of the same stuff from looking at your collection & pick-up vids. I've a few niche JRPG / VN recommendations for you, even though I'm almost sure you own them/they're on your list considering how well informed on the different outlets you seem 😅
- Nights of Azure 1 & 2 (a bit hard to find these days at a reasonable price)
- Mary Skelter 2 & Mary Skelter Finale
- Witch on the Holy Night
- Dusk Diver 1 & 2
- Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force (sequel was recently announced as well)
- Eternal Radiance
- Aria Chronicle
Thanks for the recs! So far I have Witch on the Holy Night preordered (I'm so happy that type-moon VNs are starting to get localized) & have been eyeing most of the games on your list! Aria Chronicle I'm less familiar with so I'll look more into that one 😄
PSP was such an underrated system. Kingdom Hearts was a great game for that handheld.
It plays so well on the PSP - the graphics are really impressive!
Little Busters is a great title, but it takes around 90 hours to see every story route. Good luck! I know the 2 Layton titles you're missing are expensive, but they are so worth it. I would definitely spend around $100 each if I had to. Thankfully, I don't!
Yeah I think I may have to go and swallow the $100+ price tags on those games sometime next year before the eshop closes 🙈
Double Jump Video games is very familiar! I have watched their YT channel many years (Staff, Cooper and Abbey). Great pickups!
Their YT channel is great. And thank you! 😄
(Sorry for the mass commenting...)
I had trouble getting into Labyrinth of Refrain... it seemed good, but it just didn't have the charm of Etrian Odyssey, even though I did get the CE of the second part, Labyrinth of Galleria, which is a beautiful CE.
I would love to see a proxy video. Great pick ups!
Thanks! I'll look into making a video within the next month or two, if not sooner :)
Hi Emily,
I hope this gets to you in time.
Though I'm sad that the Jak collector editions they probably had super limited quantities sold out before I could proceed through checkout 😭 I'll just have to hope they release something similar for the PS5 at some point 😭
And thank you!! I hope you have a wonderful New Year too!!
@@orbalology
Hey Emily,
That is awesome to hear you scored two games from the sale!
There may be a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics coming to switch this year, so you may want to hold off before picking up the PSP version
Oh that's right, I almost forgot about the Nvidia leak. Hopefully we'll be hearing news sometime soon!
I keep eyeing Maglam Lord at the Stop. Might have to grab it now! Great video Emily!
I think that game may be right up your alley Jay!
Patapon for the PSP is a fun, unique game too.
I always thought the PSPs were cool back in middle/high school but unfortunately never got ahold of one. But I'll check out Patapon - from what I've seen it looks like a fun game 😄
Hope in the new year your collection of games , consoles and merch grows twice as much ^^
Oh wow twice, I cannot fathom lol 😂😅
My Switch game pickups the past 2 weeks (18 Switch and 6 other games):
- Oxide Room 104
- Fire Emblem Three Houses
- Astral Chain
- Ark Survival Evolved
- Snow Moto Racing Freedom
- Sakuna of Rice and Ruin
- Little Dragon Cafe
- The Persistence
- Darksiders 1
- Wile Guns Reloaded
- LEGO Jurassic Park
- Owlboy
- Air Conflict Double Pack
- New Tales of the Borderlands
- Trials Rising
- XCom Collection
- Maglam Lord
- Hero Must Die. Again
Oh nice! I see we both picked up Maglam Lord :)
@@orbalology Yeah. Got it for $30 at a 2nd hand store. Not sure what the normal price is. Hero Must Die. Again is non-numbered Limited Run release.
Root Film is the spiritual successor to Root Letter. BTW there's an unofficial English patch for Zanki Zero on the PSVita.
Ohhh, I'm guessing the patched version isn't censored like the PS4 version?
Kotodama is a naughty fan service Switch game. 😅 I'm so happy you picked up a PSP, so many great games on that system just like the 3DS.
It is 😂 I don't mind fanservice usually and I think I needed to add an extra game for free shipping so I went with that one lol. And yes! There are so many great games (especially jrpgs) on the PSP I'm glad I can get to now.
Your setting looks so cozy for a lazy Switch afternoon. Great vid as usual! Happy New Year to you, Emily :)
Thank you! Happy New Year to you as well Ben!! 😄
Also a good mix of other titles too 😄
Oh and interesting insight about the German vs. other European editions.
(Never mind... just heard your comment about that.)
The pain of missing out on a preorder...
LOL every Japanese game ever: fishing mechanics or baseball mechanics!
Excellent pickup’s.
Thanks!! :)
But we'll see 😅
If you're interested in first person dungeon crawlers, have you had a go at the Etrian Odyssey series on the ds/3ds? They are some of the best :)
I picked up all the EO games except for Nexus and the one stuck on the DS. I'm going to try to play at least one of them sometime this year :)
Ff 4 on psp is probably the most complete version to get, if also recommend the star ocean remakes, though they're getting spendy... Along with their strategy guides :) I don't know if you buy those as well.
I haven't been hunting down strategy guides but they are a pretty cool part of video game history, especially for JRPGs :)
As for titles i picked up i was extremely lucky with some of the titles i bought, one being AI: The Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative Collectors Edition for PS4 sealed at my local GS for only 60$ CAD which isn't bad since retail MSRP for it was 160 without tax, i also picked up Mary Skelter Finale for the Switch (New) for 33$ and Chaos Head Noah / Chaos Head the double pack (Steelbook) for 50$ which too isn't bad since they were all sealed!
Awesome pick ups, by any chance have you’ve played Breath of Fire 3 or 4, or Octopath Traveler, they are good RPG games. Look into it.
I have Octopath Traveler but not the Breath of Fire games - but those have been on my radar!
Congratulations on being a new PSP owner! Most of the titles are still affordable. If you like the Katamari series, Me & My Katamari is fun.
Thanks! I'll have to check that one out - I enjoyed the original on the PS2 :)
@@orbalology the PSP version is a little easier I think but packs all the charm and fun! The best way to play it is digitally on the Vita. You can map movement to the thumbsticks instead of using the face buttons.
Heavens vault looks great. Thanks for the reco!
My pleasure!
There’s a demo for card shark on the switch eshop. It’s much better than I was expecting
The demo really sold me too! I'm excited to play the whole game now.
new sub, keep being you.
much love!
Thank you! :)
Big fan of your channel from Korea! If I may ask, do you usually clean games that are bought used? Or do you just keep them as is?
I usually clean the cases but not the games themselves most of the time. And only if the cases look a bit grubby with sticker residue, etc. 😅
@@orbalology Thank you! Much appreciated!😆
I have root letter for vita.. i always wondered if the other 'root' games were related
I think the only commonality is that they're from the same publisher, but outside that I don't think it's any relationship between the root games.
Happy New Year, Emily!
I like your green PSP! It's such a great handheld that's still impressive to me, especially graphically.
I missed out on FF Pixel Remaster, too 😫
Hopefully, Square releases more physical copies 🤞.
I didn't pick up many games in December. I spend most of my money this month expanding SSD storage for my PS5 & Series X.
PS5- River City Girls
Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion
The Callisto Protocol
2TB SSD
Series X- 2TB SSD
Switch- Axiom Verge 2
Oh I really need to pick up Crisis Core sometime soon - I'm just still debating whether to pick it up for the Switch or PS5 😅
I'll be sure to! 😄
With all the rumors of the game getting a remake I may hold off before deciding which version to get 😅
Yeah, Strictly Limited.
Hi Emily
As a collector myself I absolutely love your stuff, you cover so much (Switch especially) stuff that fit right into my mold. Anyways, I just thought I would recommend Liam Triforce's new video on A Link Between Worlds since you've mentioned it was the game that got you back into gaming. He cover great retrospectives and thought you might enjoy this one. Thanks for the great content, keep it up!
Thanks for the rec! A Link Between Worlds retrospective sounds lovely :)
Really enjoy these pickup videos Emily, you influence my wallet more than I'd like to admit lol. Happy new year btw and keep up the great content.
Haha sorry about that 😅 And I hope you have a happy New Year as well!
If you like switch dungeon crawler games, undernauts, demon Gaze, the moero crystal games (Though a little risqué), the lost child is alright, probably not worth current physical price, monkey tavern, digital only is decent, too. And mary Skelter is a lot of fun, too
Cool, I'll have to look more into these. I've had a few on my wish list but you mentioned a couple ones I'm not familiar with.
Oh wow I had no idea what the little triangle meant on the spine, TIL!
Yup I had no idea either 😂
@@orbalology Jon Cartwright at Good Vibes Gaming did a video a month or 2 back going over the different colour triangles on the European Nintendo games that's worth a watch
oh ok I'll have to give it a proper watch.
Nice picks, for PSP I do recommend YS: Seven, fantastic ARPG, I´m sure you´ll enjoy.
Do you know many web sites that send worldwide?
Here in Brazil the prices for some RPG´s and Switch games are very expensives.
Yup a lot of the Ys titles on the PSP are on my list - though with Falcom hinting that they plan to remaster more of their older titles I may hold off on the more expensive ones and see what happens 😅
As for websites that ship world wide (that sell ESRB games) VideoGamesPlus and PlayAsia are probably some of the better ones because they have a free shipping offer after some threshold. There are other sites that ship worldwide like PNP Games but most stores that are US based will probably have expensive international shipping. But if you're looking to get some imports/Asian releases then Amazon Japan or a proxy service can ship to your country.
@@orbalology Thanks Emily!
Tactics advanced is fantastic!
Good to hear! I keeping seeing so much praise for the FF Tactics games I'm excited to try them out :)
Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Advance, and Tactics A2 aren’t related story wise at all, so you can start with any of the three games and you will be just fine! Tactics A2 has VERY small nods to FFTA, but it doesn’t effect the overall game!
Oh good to know! Thank you :)
@@orbalology Of course!
I'm mostly familiar with Japanese proxy services, though I know of a Korean one and a few Chinese ones - I haven't used them yet though 😅
Psp is the best Ff tactics to start with, hexyz force, monster kingdom jewel summoner, Crimson gem saga, and the persona games on psp are awesome, (also wild arms xf)
Great! I'll see if I can find those for reasonable prices, thanks for the recs!
No pickups this month. But black friday more than made up for that 😬
I feel you there! 😅
Totally gonna be using Mercari Japan after you mentioned it!
It's great though unfortunately not all proxy sites can buy from it. But some alternative shops that most proxies can purchase from are Surugaya and Rakuma!
@@orbalology Thanks for the suggestions!! Definitely going to give them a look!
My last game for this year is Dragon Quest XI better late than never :)
For sure, it's an amazing game!
Hey Emily, since you are collecting psp now, I have CIB copies of Z.H.P and Phantom Brave for sale, should you be interested 😀
Thanks for the offer but I'm looking into getting the Switch ports of those.
@@orbalology No problem, that makes sense. Happy collecting!
final fantasy tactics is the best! Much better than any other RPG
Do you ever buy digital, I see a lot of great deals for digital nowadays.
Ok good to know! I may hold off on the PSP FF Tactics game in case the rumors about a remaster are true :)
😍
$100 for the ff pixel remaster seems too much to be honest. I'll Keep playing FF VI(my favorite one) on my snes mini.
Yeah the price is definitely hard to swallow. Part of me is glad I slept through the preorder drop so that I wouldn't feel pressed to place an order 😅
well, fuck me, i never noticed the little color mark in the bottom of the switch games lol, and i'm from europe. (france is purple apparently)
I'm looking forward to the sequel.
lol sounds like an interesting title 😂
Wow also how are you able to afford all these pick ups?? LOL
I talk more about the financial side in my 5K Q&A if you're curious :)
@@orbalology Thanks for the reply - your care and attention to grow the channel shows by this reply...I subbed and look forward to more pick ups you find. Reviews would be nice too...
Hi Emily. If its useful this is a good video that explains the coloured triangles found on Nintendo games : ruclips.net/video/Ek0GcD9AGkY/видео.html
You should hack your psp and use roms. I am not discouraging collecting physicals as I buy many myself. However, psp games run like crap. They are loud and much much slower than when in digital form (tested many). So what I do is buy physicals and rip them right to my psp.
I've been strongly considering doing this! I agree the PSP doesn't sound the best when playing the UMB discs 😅
Double jump likes to make fun of their customers so boo
Make fun of your customers in a RUclips video I tend to lose respect
hmm, I don't think I've personally seen this though I haven't seen all their videos. They tend to clown around a lot so maybe something didn't translate well :(
