Glad they put a stop to what the dual citizenship contestants were doing. It is unfair for the women born in a country who only have one opportunity to compete. The dual citizenship contestants could lose the competition in one country in May, and by August they would be competing for similar titles at another country. Kudos for that.
This new rule is tough! Nana Meriweather, Miss USA 2012 was SA 🇿🇦 born. She’d been disqualified 😮 with this new rule. She had been been 1st princess but she assumed the title when Olivia Culpo, the queen, became Miss Universe 2012.
Wrong video, wrong channel, and wrong campaign. Go to your country's channels and videos where you won't find us on, campaigning for Mia. Lastly, what Jesus is this one that supports fraud? Enjoy your day!
This rule 😮 In South Africa, one is not a South African citizen just by being born there. One of your parents must at least be a citizen. Again, one can be born in a particular country, even while their mom is on a short visit there & go settle in another country the next DAY, and know nothing about their birth country. Can they still represent a country they don’t identify with?
Although I totally agree with the reasoning of this new rule I have my doubts. Living in a multicultural society myself I'm nervous for the girls born in their parents county but moved to another when they were 1, 2 or 3 years old and lived there for almost their entire lives. Or girls born on vacation abroad. They have been residents of the same country for over 15+ years, own a passport of the country they live in and identify with that country. With this rule some girls could never participate since their country of birth has a regional selection before they can compete in the national finals and one of their rules is that you have to live in that area. (There are some exceptions of course, I understand) To exclude the opportunistic behavior and make the Miss Universe dream possible for most women, wouldn't it be better to change the new rule to "needs to have a passport of the country they want to represent AND live in that same country for a minimum of 15+ years"? I'm just thinking out loud so please don't feel offended or judge me. I mean well. 😅
I fully support the new directive; however, I would like to correct you. Victoria from Miss New Zealand is a Filipino-Kiwi, born in Auckland, New Zealand, so there is no issue with her representation. If she were representing the Philippines, there might be some concerns, similar to the situation Catriona faced with Australia. This is also the case with Christina from Great Britain, who was born in Dunblane, United Kingdom. The main issue here is cross-national representation, which they are trying to minimize to prevent future complications. I am on board with this approach, as it allows us to send homegrown representatives. In the Philippines, "halfies" are more common than in other countries; however, they should ideally be born here rather than elsewhere. I suggest doing thorough research first. (I fixed the grammar)
Thank you so much for the correction, accepted. However, I feel it's opportunistic of them to take advantage of their double nationalities as this doesn't show patriotism on the country they were born and raised in. I accept the information, and I am thankful for it🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
This means naturalized citizens will no longer be qualified? I mean the old rules just state you have to have citizenship or alternatively a resident for at least 6 months.
I cannot agree with whole heartedly with this new rule. It will discriminate unfairly towards people who have become legally a citizen of a country and has made that country her home. Rather it should say a person born in the country or a legally naturalised citizen who was living in that country for a certain number of years and have her adopted country at heart. That is easily proven as we saw with the participant who was kicked out of our local peagant as she clearly did not identify as being a South African at heart with her social media posts. The rule should also state clearly that if a person do not make it as a participant in her adopted country she is automatically disqualified by going to her country of birth to participate there.
