      This feels like a professional level version of what Canada was doing. I'm interested in the variations for the pass routes. Those were horribly basic with Canada. We saw Johnson, Freiermuth, and Pickens give up a lot on routes.
      The concern is effectively countering the defense and using more of the field. Smith is pulling 10 men within 5 yards of the line, how is he opening up routes for the receivers?

It also would be nice to see what you could come up with on Arther’s passing game to see how it projects to fit Kenny like the presnap reads and going through post snap to see how the receiver progression reads look. I enjoy your breakdown and will definitely look for more!

    FANTASTIC breakdown, Alex. Add better WR's, maybe a roll-out into the mix, maybe a planned QB run (if the QB has the chops)... very well conceived. It really reminds me of pitching mechanics in baseball... keep the wind-up, arm angle, follow-thru the same... and they will never know whether it is a fastball, breaking ball or change. No tells. Then, add in an intentional tell (misdirection)... they don't know whether they're coming or going!
    With good execution and good blocking from WR's... this could work all day. Again, Alex... great work.

    This is what a NFL level OC brings to the table. Multiple different plays out of the same formations. Canada had no such thing! I would watch the Steelers and tell my wife what type of play was coming with probably 90% accuracy sitting on my couch. Not bragging just trying to point out the predictability.
    Now the NFL pays people a great deal of money to figure this out and i'm sure they did. I remember an opposing teams linebacker, can't remember the team specifically, stating they knew what play was coming from the Steelers!

    I love the variation in playcalls out of the same formation and shift, but I would like to see it utilized systematically and not randomly. For example, you want to see on tape how the defense is going to align to the formation, and the first scripted call should take advantage of that alignment. If the safety follows the shift, zone run to the weakside. Then when the defense adjusts by going to LB pushes or Dline shifts instead of the safety following, hit them with the strongside power. The key is ALWAYS winning the numbers game, not just keeping the defense guessing. QB run game audibles would be great too. If its a weakside zone but the safety stays in the hole like minkah did on one example, the QB should have the ability to check into a strongside run or even a play action if its 1 high with the box loaded. Thats where I felt like matt canada’s scheme was truly lacking, aside from the piss poor pass concepts and lack of PA. Far too often they were running jet sweep into unblocked boundary players or into over fronts where they were losing the numbers game and the rbs had to make multiple guys miss. If arthur smith’s weakside zone hits big, don’t immediately go to strong power. Run that weakside two or three times, force that adjustment by the defense, and have the counter ready. By doing that you can have more confidence in what the defense is going to show, and thus make better playcalls to exploit it

    The more videos I see tryingto show Art Smith in a good light the more concerned I become. Running from this formation went well because of the excellent blocking which the Steelers did not have this season. Furthermore Najee is not good running the outside zone. Sure Jaylen would be good running the outside zone but with only him behind the QB it defeats the advantages shown here.

    First I would have to ask how this compares to what HE ran as OC in Tenn. some of this can be his OC in Atl. Next, So far none of those type runs look very Najee friendly! Najee is NOT and outside runner! He’s not quick enough for that! They look good for say Jaylen. Also, most of them were stopped dead in their tracks and any nice gains were due to the RB making a good move to get extra yards! I sure hope this isn’t what our offense will look like!

    What I got from this is, play a defense that misses tackles, and has Devlin Bush. Of 9 plays in the same formation, only 1 was a play action pass, that was well covered. Those 9 plays = 63 yards, yet their other 16 runs netted 66 total yards and zero TDs combined. That the Matt Canada's simplistic, easy to decode offense put up 351 total yards to Smith's 306...and Steelers won. Nice. Looking forward to next season.

    • @vincentadams2534
      @vincentadams2534 4 месяца назад

      You make valid points. But also, both Najee and Jaylen are better than Patterson. And look how many people are in the box for the Steelers. If teams have to commit that much to the box then Pickens will beat them. I'm sure they stayed with the run so much because it was working and it kept their defense off they field because in their defense was getting beat.

    • @mc1993
      @mc1993 4 месяца назад

      @@vincentadams2534 Well, the Falcons had Tyler Allgeier and Patterson, (2023 they added Bijan Robinson...2 first round draft picks at RB on the team). I too would like to believe Najee & Jaylen are better, hopefully we're not biased. lol My biggest concern is using Najee east & west. We know Jaylen thrives being used that way, as well as screen passes. I would love to see Najee not on screens, but wheel routes where he is most dangerous as a pass catcher. I just would have preferred to see at least 3 out of those 9 plays be a play action pass, otherwise defenses will bank on a run, stop them, like we did here. We don't have an O-Line (yet) and only Washington is a run blocking TE as Freiermuth & Heyward are below average.

      @@Alex_Kozora Another hidden reply. Lets try again. I understood what you were illuminating. Others have said it here. I extrapolated out from what those layers of good play calling translates into actual production, and having it in direct comparison to the universally denounced Canada offense...which produced more and a win. Production greatly helped by missed tackles. It's not that I liked Canada's offense either.
