I don’t know what algorithm RUclips is using because I have no idea why you don’t have a million subscribers. I pray you continue to grow. You’re clearly one of the most talented artists on here... by far. Really fantastic work. Truly mind blowing.

He needs to fix his audio. Constant fan noise and hiss. He could resolve a lot of that with a $40 noise removal plugin to clean it up with the push of a button.

RUclips want to end the lifes of artist. It's annoying we literally puts so much time in creating but obvious reasons we get no views or subscribers. It's a shame.

Your statement on AI painting is exactly how i feel about it. They can write all the most complex AI algorithms they want, digital can never replicate that essence of real emotion into the artwork that the human hand/mind/soul can. Traditionalist for life.

I definitely wouldn’t say never. We’re a carbon based machine and our brains are an advance quantum computer. If we keep advancing the technology, there’s no actual reason AI won’t only catch up with our development but surpass it by leaps and bounds.

Eye-Eye-Eye. Who ever thought the anatomy of an eye could match the
complexity of a galaxy? (“characterises the behaviour of a system or model whose components interact in multiple ways and follow local rules, leading to nonlinearity, randomness, collective dynamics, hierarchy, and emergence.”)
I used to think that portraiture was romantic. Intense? Yes. But equivalent to a lecture in quantum physics? Nah.
I admire you and am inspired by you but I would have to watch this video a hundred times in order to come close to seeing the eye from your perspective! SO MANY rules!
Thank you for your contribution, Master Waddell.
Incidentally, are you sporting a black eye? Maybe it’s just shade of your ball cap 😉

I went to art college in the early seventies and although I enjoyed the four years, I was disappointed in the instruction that we received. Most of our instructors were teaching conceptual art, minimalist, contemporary. We really lacked technical training ..I wanted so much to learn how to paint portraits, the human form etc…You are a fantastic instructor and a fabulous artist . It is very generous of you to share your knowledge and experience. ✏️

I enjoy your videos. I am a want to be artist, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. When I create a face with eyes, my test to see if I captured the essence of someone is to see whether or not I feel the pulse of energy when I look into the eyes of the face in my art. It is not just the heart connection that is important with people, it is also the connection between the eyes.

First video and new subscriber. I have to admit, I’ve watched a number of painting tutorials and not once have I watched 30 minutes before a drop of paint hit the canvas. The level of detail you put into the 30 minutes is crazy detailed. Awesome. Tons of info I’m sure the vast majority of non pros never thought of. This helps explain how your pieces are so good. Besides, you know, years of practice and a shit ton of swearing.

    That is an amazing video.
It is very hard sometimes to understand why an advanced artist decided to do this or change that, since they are seeing things I am not seeing, because I do not know what I am supposed to look for.
This types of videos in which it is more talk than strokes, and every stroke is explained, are the best for learning how to think as an artist.

    Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for your knowledge and teaching skills. This is a fantastic video and the BEST teaching that I have encountered on painting eyes. I love eyes and always interested in getting better at them.
One day I hope you'll go a step further with a challenge. Different eye shapes and getting them to look as realistic as possible with a different ethnicity. For instance, I have observed that Asian eyes are very different in how the skin folds around the eyeballs and face, as well as being somewhat flat. The tear duct isn't always visible. Chinese eyes and Thai eyes are different in shape and skin folds, and their skintone is yellowish-white.
Another challenge would be infant eyes which are flatter than adults, obviously not as mature with less folds, and wider apart on the face. I have noticed that measurements are different with slanting. They aren't even from corner to corner on an eye but it looks like it. From one eye to another they line-up with inner points together, and outer points together as that side slopes downward. (Hope that makes sense. Lol)
I am curious how you would sculpt the above to look more realistic in a painting.
Again, thank you for this wonderful video. Love how you have focused on different anatomy parts -- eyes, nose and ears. I don't mind doing hands, but a lot of people have trouble with them.

Thanks for this detailed video! I was wondering how to blend the eyes more realistically other than with a dry brush! This really helps me. I’ll try your techniques. I’m guilty of using umber to print the lines above the eye. I try to mix a bit of red in it.
