Oh I so agree there are so many crazy versions of Norse magic simply out there to take your money. Now I'm going shopping, Trolldom here I come. My mother loved the trolls she had this amazing set of little Trolls she would place in carefully selected spaces in our home. She loved to tell the stories of the Forest that all contained truth n magic. Thank you so much. 💓

Gradually going through your content and just wanted to thank you for the work you put in your channel. I kinda fell in love with the Viking Age period due to my master degree theses, and I think I might keep up with a PhD. So, all the sources you mention are really valuable. I'd like to depict a more accurate portrayal of the Scandinavian leaders and warriors who impacted the rest of Europe because teachers here still have the wrong ideas about them. It all started on an argument with a teacher who called King Cnut a psychopath... It pissed me off so much that someone in such a position could give off the wrong idea. If she had called Olaf Tryggvason that, it would have been a whole different story 😅

It's worth noting that I've found in the Galdrbok that Flowers did, some of the stave artwork is backwards or missing pieces from the originals. I'm still working of finding some more original copies to adapt it in my notes. That said I do like his book.

the story about Rigr / Rig comes from the text Rígsþula or Rigsthula (the lay of Rig or the thule of Rig)
it is about how he created the social "classes" Noble/highborn warriors, the free men, and the slaves.
but this is rather a mythical way of explaining society in the old viking and bronze age.. as far as i understand
the highborn were the only ones who could perform, a ritual human (willing) sacrifice... never a person who did not understand why, nor a free man, noble, nor a slave of another faith. and only the kings and queen could do so, because their blood were closer related to the gods than that of a common man. they were the only ones who could decree such a thing.

I just try to stay mindful and aware as a warrior in the world. If you have been around any of it ? "Magic" or what have you ? Don't believe you would mistake it for what the world is ? That said ? It sounds as if someone is looking for a wizard ? Any doublings with the supernatural should be taken somewhat seriously ? Our Pagan ancestors weren't exactly at university's but we don't necessarily know what education might have been ? Anybody with any ability to control Power of any kind ? was certainly sought after by The cult of Abraham ! Probably still ! And so power would be incredibly secret ! But at the same time it is all around you all of whatever could have been there ? Magic or whatever that might be ? Is usually best achieved through manifestation and intent with a bit of sacrifice.... In any historical form you know of ? There is a great laboratory and the professor has left the building. You are but a child with all the power in front of you. What is your intent ? What does your heart say ? and what do all the lies say around that ? Magic becomes simple then. And less likely to have problems. Because with all of what you might do ? Clearly you needed a clear answer...

I do know in my research that the Eddas and specifically the "Havamal" or "Words of or from the High One" would mention some hints. Though it feels more a collection of wisdom like Psalms or Proverbs in the bible.
Another source the Galdrabok is said to be an Icelandic grimoire, though written in 1600s, and possibly more associated to the Renaissance Era of Alchemy/Mysticism. With some interpretation. So that source is to be taken with a grain of salt.
