lol Isaac can still learn both Chinese and Spanish. He's still young enough. Spanish classes are offered in US public schools from middle school to college so that works out great. And There're Chinese schools in the US teaching the language.
Alan Chen I know, but classes sometimes aren't enough. The best way to learn it is from your parents. My mom speaks only Spanish to me, and my dad speaks only Portuguese to me as well. Even though they both speak perfect English, they did that so I'd be fluent.

My parents are african and they speak a dialect from there that I completly learned just from hearing it all my life, I also speak Portuguese because its where I live (Portugal) and best of all I learned english a litlle bit from school but mostly because of youtube, it really improved my english and I perfected it because of JK!
yeah this is so true. So many of my friends took spanish from grade 6 all the way to grade 11 and they still don't know much.
Isaac, speaking Spanish will seem frustrating at first, and difficult when you mix words. But it is a very amazing and important skill being able to speak two languages. Spanish is the third most-spoken language in the world, following Mandarin-Chinese and English. Imagine when you grow up being able to work wherever you want. Live wherever you want. Just because you speak two languages. This isn't just about being able to talk with your friends and family. This will be a skill that you can use for the rest of your life. It's going to be hard learning Spanish, especially now that you're a little older, but you're a smart kid. I know you can do it!!! Don't give up learning Spanish, Isaac.

So true, I grew up learning French and was put into French school and am graduating with my French diploma this year! But English is still my first language. I can experience even more you tubers, and learning Spanish and Italian is so much easier with the base of knowing French.

I agree they should tell why rather than just do it. He would understand the importance if explained that if he doesn't learn then he would lose the culture and heritage that he comes from.
he's just a kid, hopefully when he grows up, he'll appreciate his heritage.
phantastic013 I know but even I regret my parents not putting me in punjabi school so I could learn the language my parents speak although I know how to speak I would like to learn to read and write now I'm so overwhelmed it seems so much more difficult. I know as a child I would have absorbed it up but now my brain takes so much more time to process it even though I'm only 20.

I love this family. They give me so much hope for my future. I never had a family growing up and I had a really bad household. Now that my mom, brother and I have moved into our own place, we've finally got a little peace. I just hope one day, I will find the love of my life too! I won't be able to show them any of my family really but it will be nice to meet theirs! To see where they're from and to meet all the people that made them the person they are is something I look forward to! That's for showing us what a real family looks like! You all may bicker and have your bad days but we can see the love you all share! It's amazing! I hope you enjoyed your trip! Thank you!

This makes me so emotional. It's been 8 years since i've been to Mexico and I miss my family so much. I had a dream last night that my grandmother and uncle came here to visit. I don't remember much about the dream but it left me with a sadness that is hard to explain. I hope they are doing alright. I'm really happy for you Tiff. You deserve all this happiness and more. You still can its going to be hard but learning even a little bit would help you identify small words or phrases you learned and it will improve when you surround yourself within the language.
shalley is right. it may take some time but if you try really hard you can actually learn a lot. I hated speaking it but between freshman and sophomore year I was told to keep speaking it and my mother refused to speak to me in English (=_=) but now as I'm going into senior year I'm actually taking ap Spanish 4 😶😄
True, When my teacher told my mom, to don't speak Spanish to us, my mom said to her " So you don't want her to have Grandparents! you're no one to tell me how to raised my child" I end up learning 3 languages x'D my best friend is German and her mom just to take care of me when my mom was working and they spoke german at home so I had to learn x'D

I went to Oaxaca last year and it wasn't bad at all. There were lots of police who would inspect your car to see if you were smuggling drugs and there was SO much because at that time el Chapo was on the loose so yah. It also probably depends where you live in Oaxaca
My parents only taught me Korean growing up and I learned English in school, hearing that Isaac didn't learn Spanish surprised me as why he didn't want to learn his own language. Like connecting with people of my own culture is so amazing and makes me feel closer to my own heritage, being able to talk to my elders and having been able to communicate with pastors from my church as well as my own parents. Persevere Isaac! Learning a language takes time but you'll find a groove in time that you just fit into.
I honestly can't wait to see Isaac grow up. he's growing up in such an open family and idk just excited .

I agree my mom only spoke English to me growing up and I speak broken Spanish plus I forget some things in Spanish so basically my Spanish sucks. Now I'm going to end up not speaking Spanish to my kids because my Spanish sucks and I don't want them to learn incorrect Spanish :(
Carly Kennedy you could put them in spanish school, or introduce Spanish media to them. I want my future kids to know Chinese too, but i'm not 100% fluent in it, so that would mean my kids would most likely be less fluent than me.
Man, I miss Mexico a whole lot and I'm not going for two years because I have a program that's for cancer research which is a two year long commitment. Last year was my first time in four years to go back to Mexico because I used to go every year but life happens and well my parents are now going this year but without me.

It is nice that tiff is trying to keep her native language a part of isaac. My mom stopped speaking to me in our native language when I was little to help me ease into american school and now I kinda feel left out during family get togethers.

Younger kids tend to lose the language they grew up speaking once they get a bit older just because the people that they're around mainly speak English. My nieces and nephews were the same way. They grew up around a Vietnamese speaking family so they obviously knew how to speak it as well, but once they went to school they started to speak only English since they do go to school 8 hours out of 5 days a week (depending on where you are) where English is the only language spoken.
