- Hey everybody, today we are cooking at the camp with my Navy buddies. On the menu for today is some Choupique Patties also know as Bowfin. We catch them, clean them, and show you how we fry them. Y'all try this and enjoy, and as always, I'll see you in the kitchen!
The old share croppers used to tell me here in Mississippi back in the day that you have to cook them while they are warm. That means, cook them ASAP. No leaving them on ice all day, no freezing. They also taught me how to follow bees back to the hive in the evenings. They also taught me you can used canned yams to catch shrimp and minnows.😮👍
That’s AWESOME!! @JamesJones-cx5pk There’s something to be said about the old days!! We so depended on the cell phones that we tend to lose what we learned from the old timers!! Thanks for watching my friend! I’ll definitely be trying the yams trick!
Thanks for your military service...I was in the Army Reserve back in 1981 for 6 years.... But never was in any wars.... You guys are the real heroes!!! Love this video and caught a nice 6 lb bowfin yesterday...... Getting ready to fillet and make patties!! Stay well my friends!!!😊
Your welcome @Floridafisherman5000 6lb choupique or bowfin is a really nice fish!! Thank you for watching and thank you for your service! How did your patties turn out???
Thanks for another great show. My mouth was watering when you took the fish out of the fryer. I liked the idea of adding potatoes to the fish to make patties. Have a great day
Ken thank you!! Have you ever had this type of fish?
@@captaincobyscajuncooking6144 no I haven't
I will have to try them Patties. 🔥🔥🔥
Yes sir you gotta get on that!!
Just three years ago there wasn't one camp anywhere with the exception of maybe 4-5 ramshackle ones off the north canal that leads to Kraemer. Now there are a lot of nice ones popping up all over on the southeast canals. BTW, about 20 years ago the Bassmaster's Classic was won in Lake Boeuf. Not only did the winner break the Bassmaster's record, but he also SHATTERED it !
That’s awesome! I have a good friend who I served in desert Storm with that just bought a camp out there!! I will be fishing there a lot Mabye I’ll run into you there!!!
@@captaincobyscajuncooking6144 That's usually where I fish because it's not far (less than 10 miles away). If I could, I'd live in a camp there.
Love frying up some bowfin patties!!
Me too @Floridafisherman5000 I haven’t had any since that video! We going back out there in 2 weeks hopefully we catch!!
Best video I've seen yet!! Caught an 18" Bowfin the other day here in Florida. Filleted it for the first time but washed the meat off in water and turned to mush. I wrapped it in foil and a baggies and it's in my fridge!! Thought about making patties with it and frying in a pan. I like the idea of mixing with mashed potatoes and making patties. Not sure how long the meat will last wrapped n my fridge but maybe I'll try making patties and frying them tomorrow!! I have a good seafood coating mix I can use. You dudes are awesome!! Semper Fi!! I served in the Army Reserve for 6 years when I was young....hardly a hero like you dudes as I was state side. Weekend Warriors as they called us! LOL :)
Thank you @phillyman5000 you have to fillet that fish immediately after you kill it! So you have to keep it alive till you are ready to cook! But I will say probably the best fried fish I ever had! You have to keep the meat fresh and on ice and a little vinegar but it is definitely worth it!! Your mushy fish should keep and the choupique patties are pretty awesome!! Follow the video the patties won’t disappoint! And you need to try some Captain Coby’s Cajun Seasoning it makes all the difference in the world!! And Thank You got your service! Keep cooking brother and I’ll see you on the kitchen!!
The only thing missing from that awesome looking delicious meal is me eating it! 🤣🤣😎🤙🤙
