Thereafter they changed the rule on weaponizing the GI (uniform) to defeat an opponent, to be illegal. Those early UFC's, were EFFFING GREAT! Gracie BECAME A STAR! His family started opening Jiu-Jitsu fighting/training Joints all over California and other Major Metro's. To this day, very effective and popular discipline.

Royce is the OG legend for showcasing the power of BJJ, but Shamrock wasn’t entirely unfamiliar. Just outclassed. This choke probably doesn’t work without the gi. Credit to the Gracie’s for choosing to put their Ace in a gi.

The risk in doing so is that eventually those you teach your secrets to may beat you down the road at your own game, but it doesn’t matter when the goal of spreading your knowledge and passing on the art is a much worthier cause to your family.

A lot of people don’t realize that not only did Ken make the UFC legit at ufc 1, but he also saves the company after the fertitas and Dana purchased the company when he fought Tito ortiz the first time. That fight not only saved the company, but put the ufc on track to be juggernaut of fighting that it is today.
I remember watching this when it happened. People were fighting about what happened and it was like a ufc event at the house we were at. 😂😂😂

I taught both men their strengths, i told ken this would happen, he didnt listen. Hoyce used to train those shoots relentlessly, i show him one time, and he used that knowledge throughout his career. This was right aftrr i showed him.

True MMA.. Royce the Goat had to fight 3 men in one night with no time limit, No gloves, no weight limit. I highly doubt any mma guys today can pull off what Royce and Shamrock had to go through back in those days.
