At 4:25 a spider or bug of some sort comes from behind the blue pick-up. The pest control people in the village will have a hard time taking care of that. LOL The level of detail on everything is just amazing!! Thank you for sharing.
SPECTACULAR!! Absolutely stunning video with prototypical operations. This is a 5 star model railroad in all regards! Thank you for sharing this gorgeous work of art. Mike
My friend this layout is just absolutely superb!!👌 And I must add as a Canadian Model Railroader, I love that you called the CP caboose a 'van'. Well done!
At the beginning of this video I actually had to stare at the trees to make sure the wind wasn't blowing through the leaves. That's good modeling when the eye isn't sure if it's real or a layout. Absolutely phenomenal.
The beautiful thing about modeling this era is there was no graffiti. This is without a doubt the most breathtakingly realistic layout I’ve seen on RUclips. Your videos totally capture my imagination.
This is amazing! Around 1980, my father, brother, and I spent a week at a cottage on Lake Memphromagog. I remember we had to cross the tracks in order to get to the beach, and I remember taking pics of the trains coming through that area! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
What an absolutely beautiful and awesome layout !!! You certainly are the master modeler of model railroading. I love the motive power and rolling stock , it looks realistic and cool. The scenery and backdrops are fantastic and quite a pleasure to see. Many other details are great too. Excellent layout !
Always enjoy watching your videos - such exquisite modeling and it’s just like being trackside with my dad in the early 80s (many memories on the “Railfan Bridge” at East Deerfield yard while mom went to Yankee Candle). Such a stunning and magnificent layout - but how in the world did you get that HO scale chipmunk to run across the parking lot at 4:30??!! That’s a totally new level of realism, my friend! 😉
Thanks Chris, the critters are all over the Agway Feed mill, couldn't of timed that better:-D. Ill have to take you up on your offer to see the Valley Line layout soon. -Neil
Just gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! Spectacular work, please keep sharing the vids, we appreciate it. Congrats on your hard work. A top notch level of realism to shoot for - thanks for setting it so high👍
I just discovered this fantastic layout, what incredible realism, it is perfect, congratulations to whoever it belongs to. I can't imagine the entire layout, is there somewhere where I can see the track plan? greetings
@@NRS8400 Neil, thank you very much, you are very kind. Unfortunately I do not have that magazine nor access to it, I am really very interested in knowing some dimensions of your layout. Regards
Awesome as usual. Great to see some shots of Newport I had not seen before. I love how you squeezed that gas station in at the edge of the layout coming off the trestle!
Another beautiful production Neil! You have so much to be proud of here. Outstanding execution on everything! And congratulations on those RS-18's! I know how good it feels to get those key long-awaited models. That was something I experienced when Atlas introduced their newer GP38s 20 years ago and again with Kato's SD38-2s. Nice to see you taking full advantage of the beautiful Rapido models.
Thanks Joe, it was really great to get the RS-18s. All but one of them is now on the layout and running! Great for more videos in the future. Hope all is well!
Thank you for a nice long video this time. My God, if my layout turns out half this good (and I'm not so sure it will even do that) I'll be happy. Something to shoot for though!
Alco'holics trying to cut down, beware this is not the video for you. All those who have long since succumbed to their charms, sit back and drink in those sights and sounds. For those secretly taking their first sip in the woods near the wood trestle, if you notice a black haze drift over you, your ears are filled with beautiful sounds and you enter a state of euphoria, then all is lost, you are now an Alco fan'.
Excellent. Could i suggest an article on Newport Yard for Model Railroad planning? How it works, what each track is for, what compromises you had to make to model it. How it worked for steam, and changes made for diesel.
Were ditchlights used in 1981? The lead locomotive has ditchlights. I thought they weren't used until the 90's. I know this is a model. But if you pause it when the train is close up and the background a little blurry, it looks so real. Like at 0:45 as soon as the locomotive looks clear and background slightly blurry.
The CP Rail was one of the first north american railroads to use ditch lights and started applying them to road switchers beginning in 1978/79. By 1981 the fleet had essentially all been converted which was important to have on the Rapido RS-18 model. I will say it is quite a bit of effort to add them to other locomotives, so kudos to Rapido for adding them. And contrary to current operating principles, the ditch lights did not flash when the horn was engaged.
New Sub: This is a very realistic looking layout! What did you use for the water to give the reflection of the cars going across the bridge? That is something I would really like to implement on my own layout. Great video!
Thanks, the trestle scene was done using plexiglass suspended an inch above the lake bottom. This creates the reflective surface and also supports the trestle. The surface of the plexiglass was treated with a thin pour of Envirotex.
@@NRS8400 ok, I used Envirotex in the past. I plan on doing a river scene on my layout with a couple of canoes going under a double track bridge. Did you have a video showing how you made it?
This has got to be the most realistic looking layout I have ever seen. Fantastic details!

LOL - that was an HO scale mouse.....the Agway plant is full of them:-)
I love this layout. The tight shots really allow the viewer to suspend disbelief. So realistic, it’s scary (in a good way). 👌
Beautiful layout. The operations OUTSTANDING !!!!!!
The detail is incredible! I thought this was a VHS tape when I saw the thumbnail.

Fine
This is pure excellence ! Fantastic scenery, Great looking and operating equipment, And beautiful train handling.

Superb modeling and art. Every element: scenery, structures, right of way, locos and cars. Thanks for sharing.

Very Nice! And clatter of MLW's! The wheezing 539 in the S unit sounds great too! Looks great on a 50 inch SamSung!
That view and scene at 13:22 is awesome. Fantastic weathering and overall colouring.

I love how you nailed the old Mayhew’s market.
I've seen this in a magazine! Great layout
Work for CP and went to Newport multiple time a year and this video is as realistic as it is,right to the Alco sound.
A very realistic set you have! Probably those exact models of trains went through my hometown up until the late 90s when the branch line was removed.
Layout looks great, i like how backdrop is still interesting when the trains are gone and it looks like an August day out for a walk...
This layout is over the TOP ! Fantastic! 👽
Incredible Detail! So original!
Perfect ! Scenery, backdrops, operations, nice weathering too. Relaxing to watch !
Yeah it's even nicer in person.
I love the IGP hopper! I worked for IGP in Montreal in 1980 as a teen
Wow thought I was looking at a real life view from the 80’s not a model!
Rocky 06 that thumbnail had me fooled too! HA

Love the Class 2, off-the-beaten-path nature of this layout....
I thought the thumbnail was real life... amazing

I like the era you model, retro CP and B&M.

I literally couldn't tell from the thumbnail if this was real or a model! Amazing!
Wonderful job on your scenery and equipment weathering. Nothing "over the top", so it All blends and gives the feeling of being there. Thx...
Thanks Neil. I really like the richness of the colours of the vegetation. Gorgeous layout.
Fantastic work.
Definitely one of my top 5 choices for best layout on RUclips
Incredible detail.
This is the greatest model railroad I’ve ever seen. Incredible!! Boy to get a chance to see this in person!

best model railroad video ever and I have seen many on this channel but this is my new favorite. It smells like excellence. Cheers Rob
Now you just need to add the wires on the poles, and it would look real!! Love the control, scenery, excellent work!!
Great stuff Neil! Loved the new featured areas. Thanks for sharing your beautiful layout. Tim
Thank you! Really enjoyed your beautiful railroad.
Absolutely stunning railroad Neil! Every aspect works together for perfection!

Never considered modeling Canadian stuff until recently, I am not regretting that decision.
I can say the same tbh.
Watching again for the 300th time
And, for those short on space, Newport Yard, a few feet of main visible each end, then into staging maybe
Is that HO? Naw, it looks too real for HO. Wait, did I just see some bench work fascia? It is HO! This is just beautiful!
Omg I thought this was real until I saw a comment that said " this is the most realistic layout I've ever seen." I feel like an idiot now.
