The world’s most unlikely heroes are on a mission to save the Earth. Ginormica, Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., The Missing Link, Insectosaurous and B.O.B. join forces to fight back when aliens attack. With an all-star cast including Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie and Will Arnett. When a meteor full of space gunk transforms Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) into a giant, the government renames her Ginormica and confines her to a secret compound with other monsters, like bug-headed Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie). This movie is basically a love letter to 50's movies like Mothra, 50ft woman, monster from the lake (lagoon), The Blob, and aliens.
OH YEAH THOSE ARE THE NAMES
The cockroach is actually a direct reference to The Fly from 1958.
ET, the Fly, Encounters of the Fourth Kind...... Etc...
Gallaxhar is actually a direct reference to Squidward from Spongebob.
A fancy way I like to refer to the aliens is lookalikes of Megamind. Sort of.
Bob’s “breakup” scene with Derek at the end always gets me 🤣🤣🤣

This film is basically a family friendly version of the 1968 film Destroy All Monsters. Where “all” of earth’s monsters are confined to a man made location and are unleashed due to an alien invasion. In fact, there is even a direct reference to Destroy All Monsters when the alien leader commands his army to “Destroy All Monsters”. The director commentary stated that the film is one of the best Godzilla movies ever made.
With the going through the walls half the size, it actually makes sense because when the mad scientist tried to make her shorter he said, “I’m fact you might have grown a few feet.” And that wasn’t from the meteor so she would’ve kept that height, plus she doesn’t look small next to the other monsters like her parents did. So this shows that even when she went back to normal she wasn’t her regular size.
Susan is a total badass! A woman who figured herself out and met the challenges head on. She rocks!

This movie was my nostalgic when I was 7 years old and I also own the game. It kinda hurts that this movie didn’t get a sequel because fans outside of the U.S. didn’t like it at all. This movie is just a glorious time to watch because the cast is perfect.
You do know this movie grossed only 10 million less outside of US then in US and Im from Europe and this movie is still one of my favorites so I think you are very wrong

Ginormica...the woman who relinquished her 'humanity' to become a legend.
Plus one unforgettable part of the film was the US President attempting to communicate with the aliens using music (Axel F).
While this movie on its own is pretty average, Nostalgia really makes it all the more enjoyable and while the animation hasn’t aged super well on the humans the monster designs are great parodies of 50’s monsters such as Godzilla, The Blob, Sea Monster, The Fly, 50 ft woman
Does anyone else think that this is basically a sci-fi Wizard of Oz story? The girl gets a powerful something after something else big falls out of the sky, winds up in a mysterious place with weird creatures, is sent on a quest by a floating stranger, is paired with three companions (one who has trouble with courage and another who doesn’t have a brain), she gets captured by the force that wants that power, and the friends rush in to save her.
Oh my god, now I can't unsee it. This movie just got ten times better for me, thanks!
This movie is in the Guinness world book of records for being the first ever 3-D movie and people don’t even give it any respect

There are some parts in this movie where we feel legitimately sorry for Susan.
When she was crying saying “I want to go home.” And when she walks away crying after breaking up with her fiancé.

The men at the beginning got the location and called the government about it. The 'spaceship' is the meteor that hit Suzan. Thats what they were there for but then giant lady in church happened soooo yeah
In case you were wondering why some of the stuff in this movie was so purposefully in your face, the film was released in 3D. So some of the scenes are less than subtle about stuff popping out (such as the ball and paddle in the beginning, the zoom in on the teens in the UFO field, etc.).
When Dr Cockroach says you can't crush a cockroach he's talking about how they are one of the most resilient species on the planet
I mean they survived the extinction of the dinosaurs and are even able to survive a nuke

The scene where the president is trying to make contact with the alien that just arrived on earth and he’s playing the piano as a form of communication before the president starts the techno music that Was performed by Harold Faltermeyer which the music originated from Beverly Hills cop but the music before he started that one was from a movie called close encounters of the third kind which appeared in it which they also tried to make contact with an alien species with that music tone!!!!!!
The piano seen with the president will always be funny and make me laugh

Such an underrated movie. No one ever talks about it, and whenever I mention it, no one has ever heard of it, let alone seen it.
The General is weirdly enough the most rational person in this movie, while his name is a play on "war monger".
Also, he kicks ass for a 90 year old.
That Transformation scene definitely awakened something weird on the Internet and oh so many innocent kids

Jokes for the cartoon were written by people involved in the first full-length feature of SpongeBob, Kung Fu Panda and The Simpsons.
The scene of the robot crashing into the ground and eventually having a confrontation with the US military, is approximately how Orson Welles' version of HG Wells' The War Of The Worlds played out.

This was the first movie I saw in theaters, so it holds a special place in my heart, despite what critics say
the 2 most overlooked references in the movie are 1. the F.A.B. in the antarctic base location is a reference to the classic British thunderbirds TV series and 2. red dwarf as the base name is another classic British TV series.
A great underrated animated movie that no one ever talks about is "Storks" with Andy Samberg. It's freaking hilarious and has a really sweet ending. Hopefully you get to react to it someday

If Susan was a Sailor soldier who could control metal or crystals, that would be cool :D She is already powerful but will be even more if she could use an element. Sounds like a fun crossover. Make her a sailor soldiers and the monsters creating magic weapons like Luna does.

I adored this movie, and especially in 3D. I was so sad that no one paid attention when it was on the theater.
Even though this is one of my least favorite Dreamworks animated movies, its still creative in how they incorporated nearly (if not all) classic monsters in film over the last 60-70 years, plus it has quite a bit of funny adult jokes hehe. I will say Stephen Colbert as the President stole the show! He was my favorite. I think the main message regarding Susan is about having respect for yourself, gaining confidence and self-acceptance. Something both kids AND adults can learn from.
This is my favorite dreamworks movie ever!! I watched it so many times when it first came out .

A theory that I have about the facility Susan and the other monsters are in is Area 51. Since everyone knows that Area 51 is a very top secret place that no one from the public is aloud to access. I mean have you noticed how they never once show us what the exterior of the facility even looks like?
In the tv show they show what it looks like and it’s called area 50 something
Good old Monsters Vs Aliens. It's the movie that made me a huge fan of Will Arnett and his voice acting career.
Now that I watched this film again I was like “oh it’s Lego Batman” because Will arnett is the voice of Lego Batman in the lego movie franchise

In my opinion the most unfortunate cartoon parody from Dreamworks, in the sense that I like references to the Fly, Kronos, Frankenstein, Godzilla, 50-feet Woman, Gilman and the horror films of the golden era of Hollywood, but this is not perceived as a parody. It is a pity that after Megamind we will not see such parodies from Dreamworks ((((

I think monsters vs aliens is maybe an underrated dreamworks movie but it is a good movie with an Amazing voice cast
