You actually are given the option to skip it on a NG+. I liked it, personally. It showed the situation in Crossbell from a different perspective and showed just how hard Rean's situation is. Also, getting to fight the main character was pretty cool.

Ever notice if Jusis or Machias get buffs from each other, they shrug off the assist and be like: "I don't need your assistance." Also, when you rush with them on the link attack, they try to show each other up. Normal Rush: Let's go! Rush with Machias/Jusis: Don't intervene! Oh shut up!
David Timmer I don’t think we’ll ever have link pairings outside of these two where they try to one up each other instead of acknowledging each other’s help. None of the links of the 2nd gen Class VII come close to this type of rivalry.

Actually all of these are possible in the final version of the game. The final dungeon (the epilogue chapter) has every playable character from this game coming together, plus you can equip special accessories (only within this dungeon) to turn some of your characters into Vita, Crow, Lloyd, Rixia, or Altina.
With the new Kiseki game coming out and with Alisa being marketed as the main girlfriend, I almost imagine an end of combat quote with them flirting and probably Alisa kissing Rean on the cheek.

How would she express those feelings story wise, though? She’s not the main character in Hajimari anymore. She already had her closure with her dad and said her goodbyes to him after CS4.

They do, but it's a generic victory quote and I excluded those from this video. A lot of guest characters, when paired with someone from Class 7, will for the most part just say a generic repetitive line and it's boring and not fun. That's why it's not here.

In the last dungeon, you can purchase an item that replaces a character that has it equipped with either Vita, Altina or Crow. You have Lloyd and Rixia on your team the same way.
You purchase items from the shop there. I think they're called mirrors something? (Sorry, I forget). And when you equip it to someone, they'll turn into one of those characters based on the mirror you bought. So it's less you "get them" for any story purposes. It's more like a fun little treat.
Machias: As if the top two in our class could ever lose! Emma: *giggle* Bookworms unite~! Character development, folks. Would've been nice to have seen more of it on-screen :P
Special items in the Reverie corridor can be used as an accessory and transforms the character it is equipped to into non-playable characters like Vita, they are expensive though.

Played these games with eng dub first, now I wouldn't have it any other way. Loved all of their performances and became part of who they are, although there are some meh and hilariously bad ones from the background characters
