I suppose "common" is relative, but it's certainly a peripheral that I've encountered a few times where for what ever reason it just dies --- a shame it's a PITA to replace within the display
Had a similar problem no camera tested pins all normal then i noticed on my board that the resistor under the cap was missing on my board all cause i seen on you vid one there now replaced resistor camera working thanks again cheers hope to see more vid in the new year once you get the cats accommodation sorted
Thanks so much for the video mate, love to see you work I am using a1398, mid 2015, and its working fine, it overheats and fan ramps us and it sounds like its raining everyday, any solution for this please? Or any external heat sink solution? Thanks mate, And for your videos, i expect nothing from the pro :)
Nice video! I found curious that you consider A1466 the best mac to start at the repair business. Almost all the missing pm_slp_s4_l that I've ever faced were in the A1466. I don't recall being able to fix any of those (keep in mind that I do this for hobby, not the main way of living and the volume of repairs I do is not that big). Maybe I should revisit those again? I would say that the best ones to repair are the A1278 but they are quite old by now.
PM_SLP_S4_L issues are found on the A1466's, yes, more commonly the 820-00165 variant and frequently it's the CPU's IMU that dies (can be tested by pulling R8111 and seeing if it powers up). However, that said, the 3437 and 00165 boards are still what I consider the best to begin working on. There's also a guide for diagnosing the missing S4_L line in tools like FlexBV.
A few possible issues - if you're not getting anything also on the display-port output then I'd be thinking CPU fault or the coupling caps on the data lines have a problem (C8320 etc)
hahah - thanks. Trying to spend more time on them; since they are afterall the first thing people see, and trying to get a better CTR looks like what matters to YT with its current algorithm. So long as I stay in the "honest" part of the click-inducing.
I’m not one to usually comment on a RUclips video, but I have been trying to fix my MacBook Air for a while now I’m having the same issues. Cam is not working. High fan speed, and slow performance I figured it was some sort of sensor and this video just proved it to me, but I also have another problem where it won’t recognize that I have a Wi-Fi card my only option for Internet on it is through ethernet
@dawsonvaillancourt7457 will likely be a small bit of corrosion near the wifi power switch controller on the other side of the board. I’m guessing you’re not in Australia?
@@pldaniels no I’m not, Canada here. I’ve taken the board out looked at it and gave it a good clean didn’t see much corrosion and what I did I cleaned up, I’ve even bought a new airport card and put it in to no avail
There do exist many excellent tutorial videos on reading schematics and the process of fault-finding. Louis Rossmann created a free document that would be greatly helpful for many people docs.google.com/presentation/d/1PkeO_lC5WTPScSV3ZzEEjVuDWeQtL2eHK6jEcf7axA0/edit#slide=id.gb813305ed3_143_929
Nice diagnostic professor, thanks for sharing. Hello Kitty 😸
I didn't know that camera failures on the A1466 were that common. Great diagnosis and video!

i like this video Paul. You explain things really well.
Thank you Mr Daniels I will admit I do miss the live streams but these shorts are excellent and informative!
Many thanks
There's always that one jumper lol

Yep, they've already managed a couple of times. We have to ensure we keep the lock enabled.
Looks like the kitty cat was about to open the door 😮
They can be bastards like that lol
One has already attained the status.

The fur kid that was going for the door handle should have marshalled its friends to form a pyramid .
That would have made it the main video if something as amazing as that happened.

How did you know it was the camera? Is that common on that model?
Nice video!

Hi sir, do you fix macbook pro m1 serialised display to a different logicboard?
Sadly these days I just get Apple to change them :(
Love the thumbnail!!!

Wish they were all that easy!
