- I encountered a small dragon painter shop when I was in Japan. I filmed the whole process but my legs were all sore from walking lots that day so I hope it is not too shaky with my cheap camera :D
www.kousyuuya.com/ (Probably his website, got this link via comments)
A lot of people have been asking where this shop is located I can only give a rough estimate.
On google maps: maps.google.nl/maps?q=36.75152...
My blog for some photos: immow.blogspot.com/2010/05/jap...

That was stupid good. He did the whole body in one freaking brush stroke.
It's really difficult. I tried to do it too but I couldn't. He has his own technique
Omfg
8 MINUTES?!
I can barely finish a rough sketch in 8 minutes!! O_O
+Bethany Anne same!
These are grand master dragon painters here my guy
Hiiiiiiii

Fernanda Castillo it's jealousy and just hatred
I can only dream I have that level of skill one day.
Japan's own Bob Ross.
happy dragons :D
Wow. It's awesome how he manipulated the brush like that.....I wish I was that skilled *^* But really. That looks awesome d:
I wish to buy a dragon from this man one day.
After 5 years did you buy?
Did you buy it after 6 years?
I'm surprised that this comment thread is around.
My hope is to go to Japan in a few years from now. Maybe then.
After 8 years?
did you buy one yet
And suddenly I have a dire need to acquire such a masterpiece and hang it on my fucking wall.
WTF is that magical brush
You can do that with just one stroke?! (Body detail). Damn.
thought the same!
He gathered all the dragon balls without a doubt!
the technique for the body was amazing!! doing all those scales in one stroke!!! and the calligraphy is really cool as well!
How he fuck do people do this , I tried to draw a tree yesterday and got so angry I had to lay down and count to 10.
It's ok! Even a couple of curved lines and swirls can be called a tree!
*****
and it's a special paper !
im kinda guessin u have anger issues...?
ctfu!!!!!!!!!!
your simple comment is funny as fuck, now that's talent. You made me spit my Coke out, and the only other person who ever made me do that was Bill Hicks.
3:49 wtf how the hell did that get created so effortlessly?!?!?!?!?! and fast?!?!?!
+lovely Chelle Great artists make complicated things look easy ;) He probably trained a great deal to do it so smooth and fast, and to think he does this all day long :D
ikr so jeally
Undoubtedly, he probably trained under another traditional artist and finally developed his own style and art. He's probably repeated these images thousands of times in various poses. Amazing work. Thanks.
GG EZ
Actually it's a special brush.
That wasn't art, it's MAGIC! The way the artist made dragon's body was simply brilliant!
That technique for the scales... wow O.O
ikr! I was so amazed when they did the scales!
O_O he has a fricken magic paint brush that paints the whole body! How the...
I was smiling the entire time :D and took the painting with both hands because I was honoured to receive such a masterpiece :)
At any time - no matter how many times he's drawn variations of this dragon - he could blow it. Especially when he's twisting the brush. There are moments when it looks like he's thinking what to do next, but it never seems to put him off his pace. That last little bit of calligraphy shows just how skilled he is with a brush. But the dragon's body and tail is a real showstopper - the brush itself is adding the details! Amazing.
The effect of watch this artist make this calligraphy and painting is so soothing. It flows in the painting itself and also shows an enormous amount of grace.
How the hell in 8 minutes he mastered this is beyond me.
It takes me eight minutes to draw a really sucky cartoon eye. How the hell.
+Kelsey Curles if he is an artist he could have painted the details no problem, its just the brushes allow him to cheat, other artist get the smallest brushes to master his effortless strokes but he has a cheat made for him
+mia nazir a cheat?? do you even know how to draw? This is called a "Special Technique" Its wayy more harder to master such a technique rather than just draw such stile with small brushes line by line...
- Invaders - i actually do know how to draw and second of all mr.knowitall, I'm pretty sure a "special technique" isn't just waving the brush on the paper creating that effect. think before u comment
mia nazir *face palm*.... this Technique is an ancient Japanese technique called "One Stroke" and yes this SPECIAL technique is an art of waving a brush creating epic effects just with one stroke....
Sai ?
At a time when digital is everywhere, I can only stay admire such a demonstration. Beautiful and magical.
A real treat to observe this masterpiece created in less than 9 minutes. Thank you for posting this.
That is absolutely incredible! wow! That dude has got some talent!
Wait wait wai, so you MET the guy? Hes everywhere on youtube, nice chance
+ıllıllı Zєภ T๏קקค ıllıllı yep and thnx :)
This is why learning calligraphy can be so beneficial. He was able to create the body like that because learning calligraphy teaches you control. You learn how much pressure to use to create the effect and shape you desire. It's beautiful to watch.
The art is on the confidence with which he paints. Fluidity and precision in every stroke. Really amazing.
Best 8 minutes of my life. 10/10 would buy.
I love this :D I want to go to Japan even more now!
Arrrrgh. So jealous! Not only is this amazing art but the calligraphy is flawless!!! Truly a beautiful work of art.
That body stroke technique he used is flipping awesome! It's incredible how that much detail was created like that!
why would people dislike this this is awesome please teach me how!!!
Ok seriously how did he draw that the brush is magic I swear
When I was 15 years old in the 1960s and visiting the Great Buddha Temple in Japan, I saw one of these artists creating dragons using this technique. I waited in line as the rest of the group (all much older than I was) went ahead. I stopped and watched and then stood in line so I could buy one. It cost about $2 in American money (the dollar was very strong, then) and took about four minutes to make. I had to wait another five minutes for it to dry. When I caught up with the group, the were angry that I'd delayed them - until they saw my dragon. None of them had even noticed the artist. I still have the painting, now framed and hanging in my living room. People who see it are always amazed, even before I tell them the story.
Mind blowing how quickly that came together
how he draw the body was like magic one swoop with details and all wtf???
magic just got real
easy
She...the artist is female.
Does anyone know what kind of a brush this is? Not the small-detail one, the large one used for the body...
+Bethany Anne same here
I'm pretty sure it's this type of brush
www.asianbrushpainter.com/brushes/collectors-paint-brushes.html
Blown away how he did the body and tail all in one stroke with all that detail of the scales! Amazing!!!!
I do not understand how this is humanly possible. That was amazing and the giant brush freaked me out every time XD
Eight minutes... That's all it took, what can I do in eight minutes? Literally nothing
Hahahaha, same here😂😂😂
Amazing!
His technique for creating the scaled body is amazing! Ive been an artist for decades but that just blew my mind.
Holy crap this is amazing! They made the body so fast and it looks so good!
How...??
Flagged. This person is NOT a dragon.
I was shaking my head through the whole video...I can't believe he just did that! :D Amazing! Must have taken years to practice!
Those brushes are simply amazing, wow you know when you have mastered a tool.
Steps to paint a dragon
Step 1 : Be asian
Step 2 : Repeat step 1
yashil1892
oml
Oi im asian! I cant even draw a proper stickman at 11 yrs old
Dragon Destroyer you're not alone my bruh
Dragon Destroyer nahhh just pratice
this is amazing. the man clearly loves his art. (i would think) puts a smile on my face, anyhow.
Wow, that brush stroke for the body was awesome. If I ever learn to paint, I'd love to learn exactly how he did that.
That has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life.
That is one freaking awesome dragon painting ~!
Wow, I love the way he staggers the brush to create the dragon's scales.
so amazing ... just the brushes and the colors !! .. WOW
i must find this man and learn from him. the detail in the body leading to the tail. the scales, whiskers, lettering....my god this man is amazing. i have to have a few of his pieces in my house!
wow, this is soooo amazing. hes reallly great.... i see someone else video tapped him doing another one. they found the same person... hes deff got a LOT of talent..... thanks soo much for sharing....
I'm blown away. I love how Eastern cultures like Japanese and Chinese can take regular practices and make it spiritual in a way. Things like pouring tea and painting are in themselves "martial arts". It isn't just about getting it done, it's about HOW it is done. I love that.
he did that in less than 10 minutes? this detailed? omfg this precision is just incredibly amazing D: wow...
This is beautiful. What quick skill!
om jesus! I've never seen that technique to draw the body before! no wonder it always looks so flawless! xD this guy is too pro!
Japanese artists are some of the most dedicated and disinclined artists around . They're techniques are insane lol
This is amazing! anyone notice how he drew the scales by jerking his hand as he made the stroke!? Outstanding skill and show of control!
Breathtakingly gorgeous and beautiful! Just.. Wow!
WOW!!!! that is just absolutely amazing!!!!! I want one :), can't wait to go to Japan
I can't believe this was done in 8 minutes....... Speechless
Only the Japanese can make art look so graceful!
And every time he did something new i just thought 'nooo stop its perfect, dont ruin it' and every time it just got more awesome.
That drawing is AWESOME
Such amazing for such a short period of time!
i like to say that you are a fantastic artist omfg. Ill buy that dragon, the problem is, its obviously gone by now. Fantastic work, even the writing looks phonominal
That was frecking amazing! I just got a japanese calligraphy set, and I hope to be able to do this one day!!!
For those asking how she did the body in one stroke, it has to do with the way she loaded the brush with ink and the pressure she used to apply it to the paper. She's using Sumi ink. If you watch from 3:30 - 3:40, you can see her hand pushing down and putting pressure on the brush. That's what gives the dragon the scaled texture.
Watching something so beautiful being painted so quickly makes me feel like I'm watching a miracle :P
whoa! that person is so good at painting dragons!
This is absolutely amazing
The confidence in her brushstrokes is just amazing...
Eye were like O_O after he did the body. Great job!
That was truly amazing. "Watch me do the entire textured body with this one continuous brush stroke."
welcome to the joy of painting dragons, we're just gonna lay down a few brush strokes here and just like that, instant scales.
beautiful, its the most beautiful thing I have ever seen
A piece of art made in ~8minutes. Awesome.
The subtlety of the way he paints makes me feel so light weighted :O
Such talent! Wonderful. So beautiful.
I would spend a year just trying to draw those japanese symbols. Very nice job!
he's obviously following a formula, but he's spent years mastering and perfecting his version of that formula.
So.. It is now proven that you can draw something awesome on 8-9 min. Right now I am ashamed to be a digital artist 20+ hours to make something like that !
Great job man!
Truly amazing, very talented artist.
That is absolutely stunning...
When you see something unique but your camera is crap....(no offense, seriously, maybe is also because this is from 2010) but the skill of this artist is impressive.... everything seems to be done with just the proper inking of the brush and a single gesture at a time (plus the blowing)....I felt well just by looking at him doing this!
that dragons body! and scales! MIND BLOWING!
Holy shit! That is crazy. Very impressive in my book.
One stroke and he made the body with scales and a top and bottom side. BLEW MY MIND!!
This is so beautiful.
This was the most awesome thing I ever saw
Amazing stuff. Why does watching this make me sleepy?
The awesomeness is to great in this one. This message will (not really) implode in 14.7 seconds
There's no frickin way! The technique is amazing!
Oh my god! That is amazing! The way he does the body! :D
I was watching this video with my mouth open wide the moment he started to paint the body of the dragon!
*____*
I want to see the face of that magic making artist!
