    The tip about cleaning off the excess glue from the circuit board was excellent! That is something that will apply to all solid state electronics.
    Regards, Tom

    Thanks for this video, I used it last year to overhaul my SL5200 (forgot to say thanks then) - for some reason this video popped up in my RUclips home page today so I watched it again. These are great turntables. I was lucky that the one I found on Craigslist last year was in almost new condition and was being sold by the original owner, with a micro-acoustics 282-e cartridge and stylus that was / is in great shape. One thing on mine was that the anti-skate spring was coated in hardened grease that had to be removed. Someone on eBay sells a high viscosity silicone oil for the tone arm damper.

    Thanks Dave for another great how-to and for getting this table up to snuff. I was really happy with this table and getting it checked out. I had to find some missing parts and clean it up, then take it to the doctor to get it healthy. And this is a kind of hobby and pass time. But alas, imagine my dismay and shame, to find out that I was wrong; I should have bought a Revox something or other, and that they were not that expensive but pretty good...I am deeply hurt. Ah well back to Craig's and the Bay!

      Nothing wrong with technics. These direct drive tables are great and very quiet.

    What about a drop or two of oil on the main spindle bearing?

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  7 лет назад +5

      Yes did that. File was corrupted on SD card, so only way I could show it would be to rip it apart and reshoot.

    I've seen no end of old decks with a stuck solid turntable and metal auto gear, the brown grease is as solid as concreate, sometimes only a small butane torch can heat it up enough to soften the grease.
    Sounds nasty but soaking in fluids often doesn't work.

    Thanks a lot! Just fixed my SL5100, the non-automatic version of this one, but otherwise very similar. It had a bad hum due to a lose screw.

    Hello Dave, I have a SL-5300 and I'm in need of the lamp assembly (SFDN520-31E). I have searched all over the internet with no luck of finding one. Would you know how I can find one or maybe a replacement. Thank you.

    Any thoughts on what would cause this model to spin uncontrollably fast? Nothing will slow it down to the correct speed.... sheesh.

    Hi my name is Tom and maybe you can help me out on this one. I have a Technics SL-1300 turntable that will power up(the strobe light comes on) but it will not spin. I have checked all of the fuses and cleaned all of the pots with deoxit and still want spin like the motor is not getting power. I love this TT and would love to get it going again. Thanks for any help on it

      Sone tables have a small microswitch with contacts and the motor will not start if the contacts are oxidized.

      12voltvids to top it off the union truckers down here walked off the job and the Democrats are stymieing the relief efforts to make trump look bad and their media buddies making false reports are not helping.

    hola
    Tengo el mismo modelo ,y cuando le das al botón de Play Stop en sentido stop y el para ,,, automáticamente vuelve el botón a su posición Play el solo ,
    Por otro lado independientemente que esté lubricado , pongamos el caso que si lo está , para ajustar el momento del mute de audio para el toque de la aguja con el disco tanto al aterrizar como al despegar ,,,, o para ajustar el sitio del Stop al final de la pista del disco ,,, hay dos huecos al lado del cardan del brazo ,, en su lado izquierdo dos taponcitos que hay en ese lado ,,, son los tornillos de ajuste ademas del tornillo que hay debajo del plato sin quitar este por uno de su agujeros,,, es decir ...
    Mejor leer el manual de taller del aparato antes de desmontar nada porque esos ajustes están previsto desde arriba sin desmontar absolutamente nada ,
    Por otra parte te falto lubricar el mecanismo de play stop para que el trabajo quedara bien, ya que si miras el video tu mismo te diste cuenta que no funcionaba y devolviste la palanca, por lo demás , simplemente es pasar la tarde.

    These were not expensive but obviously good units, that stood up well. Direct drive is the best.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  7 лет назад +1

      Well they were not as expensive as the SLM1 for sure, but a respectable turntable. The M1 will eat it for lunch despite the TP4 cartridge system.
      I know the "snobs" did not like the TP4 system, but had vinyl not died around that time there would have been several high end tp4 cartridges to choose from , and technically there is nothing wrong with it. There were many pluses for the TP4 system. Alignment was guaranteed at all times being one of them.

    This is a very nice looking turntable shame the owner doesn't own a REVOX B970 which would sound a lot better that that turntable as the there would be no tracking error and the tracking weight would be less than 3grms and with the REVOX B970 you hear everything the recording engineer intended you to hear, The REVOX uses a computer to control the tonearm rather than leavers and cams and cogs.
