"It's personal and I don't talk about it, but I met a girl in Philadelphia in 1989, and we ended up spending the night walking around, flirting, doing things you would never do now".
Her name was Amy Lehrhaupt, and she and Linklater met in a toy shop.
For a time, they kept in touch by phone but drifted apart as the Texas based filmmaker began a serious relationship.
He always thought that maybe she would show up at a screening of "Before Sunrise" and realize her influence, but later, after the film was released, he heard from a friend of hers that Lehrhaupt had died in 1994 in a motorcycle accident, a few weeks before the first movie began shooting.

When the third move came out i hated. Celine was so different. I was so crazy about that dreamer of a girl.She seemed so bitter now. I thought it was a betrayal of character. But now 20 years later and as a 44 year old man, i see it was a very honest portrail of the people you become as you grow older and you face the fact that your youth is gone.
I also felt that way when I watched it, I'm in my 20s now, maybe I'll feel different about it once I get older.

The characters are about 10 years older than I am, so it's almost like preparing you for life that's to come (let's set aside that we're not Judy Delpy and Ethan Hawke for a moment). Before midnight was in some ways a difficult watch, the reality of middle-age taking over for the promise and excitement of youth. I am still not sure how I feel about that film and if I want them to make another one. Probably not if we're to be real...

I visited Vienna with my wife last year and we visited several of the locations from Before Sunrise. We even sat in the booth in the cafe where they did the mock telephone conversation. It's the most beautiful film ever made.
This combination of Maddy Star and the trilogy is just perfect. It captures the melancholy beauty and pain involved in loving someone deeply and truly.
im watching this while literally shivering thinking about him. this movie was suggested to me by him and he said he absolutely loved it and knew i would too. watched it a year after he recommended it and i understood why he wanted me to watch it, now that he’s away. i literally can’t help but watch clips of this trilogy without thinking about him. it’s so unfortunate that we never got to discuss this movie but know that what we had was just like this, simply pure and genuine. except it was always one sided, and still is. two years ago he said he loved me but i didn’t as much, and now i realise that he made me realize that i too deserve to be loved. i was missing him so much today and it’s kind of weird how this just showed up on my feed. i hope he comes across all the crazy messages i write to him under people’s videos and understands what i feel, that im sorry for what i did to him and would go back in time just to tell him that i like him too.

The third movie went exactly in the direction that I thought it needed to but that also meant that the third movie would also be the last in the series.
This combination is quite beautiful. I have loved this triology!
The cruelty of love in one painful artwork. Again after midnight and can't stop thinking of all the pictures and special moments in my imagination I could never admit to myself but ever wished deep in my heart. Meeting that one unique person with my feelings getting out of control apart from all rational mind. Found her and all the approach went fatally wrong. It's a kind of some surrealistic shit in a generally not controllable life. Now watching all thes lovely scenes with tears in my eyes and those ever lasting memories.

I'm sorry, I cannot watch this movie anymore! It reminds too much about my past. In fact, when this movie first came out in 1995, it was the same year when I was emotionally involved with my first love. It's a mixture of being painful and loving at the same time.
