Agreed. Would rather watch Gerlach surf over Todd Holland any day, but Todd clearly won. Top 4, top 2 waves, whatever, he won.. and the floater was underscored. Gerr on Xanadu’s..good combo.
I am getting back into the sport after a 20 year absence. This is what originally got me into the sport. I’m watching the likes of Jaime O’brien, KOA Rothman, Nate Florence and a few others. It makes me wonder what Gelach could do in this day and age. He is a star no matter what but he could have made great living and really enjoyed surfing the waves he wanted.
I gotta say I enjoy the enjoy the commentary much better in this era. Plus Pam Burrige has a surf school on the south coast of NSW. From Ulladulla down. I lived in Ulladulla for a few years and had a few lessons. She was my surf idol for a long time. She is such a lovely person. And I can highly recommend a her as a surfing instructor if your ever down that way.

I watched this final as a 15 yo grom. Anyway, I really think TH surfed better... more vert and less snappy than BG

Flew up from Tasmania chasing south swells always ended up around Ulladulla one of the best stretches of coast in the world amazing
