Hi Angela I am a contractor and my client would like A hood cover just like this I had it scheduled today and I was just going to figure it out as I go wow girl you just saved me and helped so much.
And I have to say I have looked for the last hour for a "simple" build that gives a great, inexpensive finale. Like you have here. I will definitely use your plan. AND I found a Nice Broan vent with all switches located on the bottom of the unit (not front panel). It was 99.00 at Home Depot. Lowes had the same thing for 160.00. I love Cheap...er inexpensive also
Gorgeous! This video ended up inspiring me to entirely redo our hideous basement kitchen. Once I'm done on my $400 budget it will go from ugly 80's laminate to chic farmhouse modern. I'm starting the range hood cover project today so I'm excited to start and this video makes me feel WAY more confident to do something so extreme by myself. Thank you for providing such clear instructions and helping empower us DIY'ers!
@@AngelaMarieMade I wish I could attach a photo but it turned out amazing and took hardly any time! Mine is free floating (not attached to cabinets) and I had to modify it so the front is on a hinge since the controls are on the front at the top (least convenient spot ever!). The kitchen looks SO expensive and as you said in your video, it makes the room look warm and inviting. Of the projects in this room, this one has had the biggest impact by far. I will be checking out your other videos for further inspiration. 😃
I so love this.. my question though is how loud is the vent? I have one now that I’m trying to replace, built into the microwave, and oh my it’s so loud, even on low. Don’t even try and hear anything or listen out for your children.. lol this is beautiful. This design is awesome how it’s connects to the cabinets. My ceiling is like 18 ft high so to heck with all those that go up to the ceiling 😂
Great idea! Question? You are using the ductless feature on hood I see. Which way does the air flow go to escape after being filtered? Inside cover or does it blow filtered air down? Was worried about condensation build up of hot filtered air over time inside cover?
Thank you, great question! There is about an 1/8" gap at the top of the angled piece for air to escape, and additional gaps underneath for air to flow because the replacement vent was not as wide as the one we replaced.
Hi. Great work. Simple but very charming. I'm thinking of doing a similar adaption. I was wondering how the wood under the hood has held up? And has the suction power been adequate for your cooking needs? Ty!
Thank you! The wood under the hood has held up great, we painted it with Benjamin Moore Advanced line paint(the same paint we used on our kitchen cabinets) and it is very durable and wipeable too. The exhaust fan is a little loud but it works really well and has plenty of suction.
Thank you for this step by step plan. Excited to try this. My only concern is my oven light knob would be blocked so I might Find away to keep it open inder to the know. Big thanks for this video!!
Looks very good except I think this is not much practical when need to repair or replace the vent... Maybe need to use another type of vent that can screw to the bottom?
Hi! It looks so good and classy. I've watched this video so many times and I think my husband feel like we can do this! LOL We saved your video to our DIY videos. TY It looks great! Thanks so much for providing all the details and info on where you purchased the vent. Just ordered. TY!
It was a pretty easy install, I have a step by step tutorial with photos that goes into more detail on my blog post (link in the description box). Thank you!!!
Am I seeing something not there. But it looks like the stain on the front board dripped and ran a bit. Is that correct and did you do that on purpose to add to the farmhouse feel?
I have a question, I plan on installing my vent in my new house 36 inches above the stove and I was wondering how high you installed it above yours? Do you or your husband ever hit your head? I'm worried cause I'm 6'3 and it's hard for me to visualize it.
That plywood will collect water from steam and rot or mildew over time use Medex a waterproof MDF product to prevent that. And a 69 degree angle is call an obtuse angle which starts from zero not 90. But it’s DYI but if a contractor is doing this shame on him/her!
There's plenty of air circulation to prevent mildew or mold, specialty products can be hard to find. If there is concern about moisture, applying a coat of primer to the wood to me seems more practical. That being said, the product looks promising, I like how it is formaldehyde free and sustainably sourced. Thanks for sharing!
@@AngelaMarieMade Medex is sold at every home center or can be ordered. However; for someone like yourself or anyone else doing DYI it’s fine! As a contractor (which is who I am addressing) you should expect more! In fact thee best job ! Doing ok is not acceptable period and could jeopardize one’s license!!
Meh :/ Valuable storage above the hood was lost, and the hood cover protrudes even further into the room, knocking on your forehead everytime you'd want to peek into a pot or pan. It sure *looks* awesome, but looks can be deceiving.
I really want to watch this but the valley girl inflection and cadence of your voice is really difficult to listen to. The hood looks really nice, the craftsmanship looks awesome.
@@tradergalsal6092 I completely understand how that could be interpreted as mean, but I can only assure you I am not trying to be mean. I think this video deserves more views and I am afraid that a significant part of the audience would have the same difficulty that I had listening. She can check the stats and see if people played past the first minute. If I'm wrong, I'll slink into an internet shame hole and self-flagellate. Lots of people spend time listening to the way they speak and making adjustments to broaden thier appeal without losing thier character.
It's called "upspeak". Nothing tanks a meeting faster or basic first impressions in professional circles as this. The vid looks great but I immediately had to turn this off, couldn't take it.

Thank you Ana!
Craftswomanship?? We don't need to be so inclusive that we make up words.. craftsmanship works just fine even for women
You did great, I'm definitely going to remake this for my kitchen

Did you have any issues with wood warping from stove heat or steam?
Looks amazing 👏

The hood range looks really nice!
What brand & color of stain did you use ?
Thank you!! The stain is one of my favorites, Provincial by Minwax
Luv it! You rock

Great job 👍

Good luck replacing fan when it breaks. U should have used some screws when possible. To make it easier to disassembled to replace fan.
Geeat Job!

Looks good, I get that it's ductless but still should vent? just can't see where it vents to?
It vents to the space that the enclosure covers. There is also a gap between the range hood and the enclosure so that it is not a closed space.
Thank you for this step by step plan. Excited to try this. My only concern is my oven light knob would be blocked so I might Find away to keep it open inder to the know. Big thanks for this video!!

Did you use a regular vent? How do you work it with the one you made are not the switches on the front? Thanks
It was a pretty easy install, I have a step by step tutorial with photos that goes into more detail on my blog post (link in the description box). Thank you!!!
This is great! Thanks for sharing! What did you do with your microwave?
We moved it a couple times but it is now next to the refrigerator.
What do I do if I need to change the range hood?
The range hood is attached to the side cabinets on the bottom so if it needs to be replaced - just follow the instructions to remove it carefully!
Hey! This is ductless right? Just wondering if you had any issues with the wood inclosing that ductless vent?
Yes, it is ductless. We haven't had any issues, there is some open space between the hood vent and the enclosure so it is not totally closed.
How do you access the vent controls? Aren't they on the front now covered by wood?
No, I bought a vent that had them underneath so they are easy to access.
Hi, what is the range hood you purchased? Thanks.
Hello, I have a link to the range hood in the description box for more details. thanks!
Is that a 30 inch hood fan or smaller? Also, where did you find one with buttons on the bottom?
It's a 24" hood, and there is a link in the description box.
Am I seeing something not there. But it looks like the stain on the front board dripped and ran a bit. Is that correct and did you do that on purpose to add to the farmhouse feel?
It could be the lighting or the distance but there isn't any drips when you get up close
Can you still access the controls?
Yes, they are easily accessible!
@@AngelaMarieMade what about the receptacle that powers the range hood? Or is it hardwired?
How do you access the function buttons?
We picked out a range hood that had the controls underneath as oppose to on the front, and they are easily accessible.
I have a question, I plan on installing my vent in my new house 36 inches above the stove and I was wondering how high you installed it above yours? Do you or your husband ever hit your head? I'm worried cause I'm 6'3 and it's hard for me to visualize it.
Ours is 27" above the stove and we haven't had any issues with hitting our heads.
If only this costs 30 dollars still. Damn wood prices
Not a cir-cle-ur saw😂😂

so...where does the hood vent to, your face?
😂no, michael it vents above the hood. Did you think you would be cooking and have air just blowing on your face?
Meh :/
Valuable storage above the hood was lost, and the hood cover protrudes even further into the room, knocking on your forehead everytime you'd want to peek into a pot or pan.
It sure *looks* awesome, but looks can be deceiving.
